Last time, you witnessed the wrath of General Fairchild, fulfilled Lieutenant Alice "Clemmy" Farragut's request, had a lot of moving to do, and ended up with both your squadmates promoted to appropriate levels.

Today...you're going to face the Iron Kestrels.

Alright lads, let's go get that poster signed.
>>
And I need to make a quick emergency drive. I'll be able to get us started in earnest when I'm there, about twenty minutes. I knew I started us early for a reason (although it proves I really do have terrible luck).

On the plus side, both the S-Swordtail and the Master Harpy Rick Variant are done, although I have to finish calculating the cost and weight of the Harpy.
>>
So what's keeping us from giving the Kaiser superheavy arm servos?
>>
>>47394153
Can't attach servos more than 2 size categories higher than the Torso, which restricts us to Medium Heavy unless I'm mistaken. Weight is also a factor with higher cost servos and weapons - add too much tonnage and your mech won't be able to move.
>>
>>47394153
The cost? Also >>47394211
>>
Right then. Our mission is to get to the base and establish contact. Chances are there are people who are going get in our way or outright kill us. We might have to do some sacrifices and risky plays but our main goal should be getting all three of us there. The mission succeeds then and there. Even if we have to ditch the two suits with us, take their enviro pods and use the King Swordfish's higher speed to boost that much faster, or throwing our lance at them, we must survive.
>>
>>47394211
I can't find this rule anywhere in the books. In both the core book and advanced technical manual it just says what arm servos do, not any limitations on them. Leg servos have a limitation, though.

As for weight, buy some weight efficiency and voila.
>>
>>47394301
Check the Torso description.

Also, I was indeed mistaken. It's a maximum of one size category larger, which means Light Heavy at most.
>>
>>47394260
Couldn't we just swamp them with our superior numbers and fire power? As long as we are in the front its not like they can afford to ignore us and hit the scrubs.
>>
>>47394026
More like Mecha Space Pirate Hunter Quest naow. When are we getting back to the true hero of this story
>>
>>47394260
>>47394320
I'm confused. Wasn't this supposed to be a hostage negotiation mission?
>>
>>47394344
I am assuming that dude is planing for a double cross. Either from the pirates or the military.
>>
>>47394314
So it does. Alright, so we need to upgrade the torso to medium weight to get light heavy arms and that +2 bonus to damage.
>>
It is supposed to be a hostage negotiation mission!If I recall from previous thread, the idea was to;

1) Avoid meeting near Auditorium because of General Fairy's possible hidden agenda to seize remote control of the Jaburo and autopilot it into Auditorium via Sleeper agent/Rogue A.I/Drugged Madman

2) Broadcast and ask for a parley with offers of cash for sam back, and if possible her mech.

That aside, someone did say try not to get Naomi killed, or Caesar might become the biggest villian.
(Please don't get her killed guys! I really like the lighthearted romance.)
>>
>>47394344
Could turn ugly real fast cuz Not!Bane is still with the Green Skulls and Fairy has everg intention of screwing over Roarke
>>
>>47394320
Do not assume that superior numbers are on our side. Their flagship is the most dangerous of the bunch and can likely wreck the Jaburo. Not only that, but our crew is green. VERY green. If people start dying, moral will be broken easily and if Green Mask shows up with A class crew.. then no matter what they have all they will be is free suits and slaves.

We cannot negotiate anything if dead and chances are they will try to take the prototypes and king swordfish from our husks. In a way, creating peace talks with the nicer pirates against the green skulls would bea good thing for the military.. if Fairchild wasn't a evil manipulator.
>>
>>47394377
Or, we could acquire a Remote Control System as we were intending to, and bypass the size limitation by not actually having the servos linked to our Torso.

Though I'm not sure that Remote Control is generally worthwhile, given how prohibitively expensive it is to build even one additional mech for a drone in addition to your existing one.

Why is making cost-effective mechs so difficult in this system?
>>
>>47394438
Their flagship is shit compared to our flagship and our green crew is still in much, much better mechs. Their crew is only one grade better than ours and I know that while that does make a big difference I dont think it makes enough of a difference to mitigate the fact that most of their guys are in the equivalent of jeeps with guns bolted to the back.
>>
>>47394451
The remote system isn't an either/or in this case. More space in the torso and arms just makes it easier to fit in.

We could really use verniers. +1 isn't too prohibitively expensive and makes all our mech rolls better. Our CP cap is 350, right?

As for costs, it's because the designers thought that 6000cp mechs were ok.
>>
>>47394436
I thought we blew up not!bane?

>flagship is shit compared to our flagship
25% more kills
25% more armor
500% more damage on its forward cannons.
>>
>>47394553
Confirmed by the guy running the show to be enough to body the rhinehawk and the yamato at the same time.
>>
>>47394543
That was fake!Bane. Not!Bane is the 3rd member of SOUL-B
>>
>>47394590
Oh. Have we seen them yet?
>>
>>47394553
Forward cannons also have 4000m more range. And since it moves the same speed it can just get in range and blast the ship while constantly staying out of range of retaliation.
>>
>>47394577
That was the Rhinehawk and yamato. Both were relatively small. The Green skull flag ship however is much bigger. You are also assuming that the flagship crew of war hardened vetrans are Bs and consisting only of harpies. We have seen otherwise when they pulled out the morgan and the like.

Even then, the sheer maneuver gap between them and their enemies +12 will make things rather hard to hit. Remember, a gap of 5 is a pretty big chasm in this game. Anything more makes it damn hard for the rookie to succeed.
>>
>>47394654
I was talking about fighting the pirates we know for sure are there.
>>
>>47394530
Ooh, and we're using 36 cp in shields right now. If we get an anti-ranged reactive shield that stops ranged attacks we could get the highest level (stops 15 kills without ablation) for less cost.
>>
>>47394686
And looking at the scaling chapter, it should be theoretically possible to create starship-scale weapons that a mech can use. It'll just cost an absolutely ludicrous amount.

Your stomach handles a jump better than most people's. You're lucky that way, and for once you don't have your dad to thank, he's admitted to you before that he hates space travel in all of its many forms.

Lieutenant Blanchett's S-Swordtail is a magnificent, towering machine, scarlet with black framework. It resembles, heavily, a Greek colossus, complete with a massive bladed Corinthian crest and a T-shaped slit in its impassively blank face. When active, two gleaming points of scarlet appear in the T. It has clawed fingers (decorative, not functional), and a pair of beam axes slung across its back in an X shape, resembling khopesh-shaped metal rods without the plasma projectors turned on. It has a pair of massive, TROMBE-pattern pauldrons that resemble small shields, although you know for a fact that they aren't meant for blocking and contain packets of missiles. It also has a jointed, scorpion-like tail, ending in a flattened kite-shaped plate.

Naomi's is shorter and, frankly, cuter. It's bright purple, trimmed in gold. The gold facemask in the rounded purple head with three bright purple eyes reminds you a little of a three-eyed version of one of those old Terran monkeys called gibbons. It has a pair of beam pistols at its waist, and a large protruding knob on the back holding the plasma screen projector.

Of the three, the tallest is the mighty King Swordfish Mk. II, resplendent in its asymmetrical black and white stripes with its proud alicorn horn and spiral lance. The three mecha have been polished to a shine, and as you prepare to set off the Colonel personally leads the departure salute.

"Warriors of SOUL, be brave, be persistent, be full of spirit! The mighty bolts of Jove smite your enemies! The lion skin of Hercules protect you! Go forth, and return in victory!"

It would help if my post hadn't somehow got eaten twice.
>>
>>47394686
Are you including the some 34 spaces it'll take to install that shield (or more, if weight is determined before cost scaling).

If you stat it, Karen can build it.

Even if 'it' costs in excess of 400 CP, is horrendously ineffective, is an 'Oid and/or has a Remote Control System for no reason other than to ineffectually dropkick a faggot 8 times per turn?

"Pierre Blanchett, S-Swordtail, LAUNCH!"

"Naomi Heim, S-Puffer, LAUNCH!"

"Heinrich Merrow, King Swordfish Mk. II, LAUNCH!"

The three of you exit the catapults as a single unit. The twelve huge thrusters set into a pair of large, spiral-shaped nacelles dangling over your shoulders and down your back lift perpendicular to your spine, spinning rapidly as they fire up. Icy blue light traces your path through the stars, along with the scarlet of the S-Swordfish and bright yellow of the S-Puffer.

You're pleased to see that the Colonel took your advice about wide-ranging patrols. Although they don't get in your way, a lot of Bluegills and Pumpkinseeds with the occasional missile-bearing Palomino or larger Warmouth and Morgan II are visible as you look around. Ahead of you, several kilometers distant, Auditorium glows with scarlet neon light and images of Red Siren's smiling face. Like a huge, metallic cigar slowly rotating in space, the whorl of silver and red is almost hypnotic. You never really expected to come here, but here you are, and you're actually being relied on for once. The pressure is intense.

"Merrow, slow down, don't pull ahead of us." The Lieutenant calls out, not ungently, over the comms. "Speaking of which, comms check!"

"Check!" You respond promptly.

"Check!" Naomi laughs.

You glance down as you leave the protective shroud of the Jaburo's guns and patrols. There are plenty of Harpies in the vicinity of Auditorium, but they're giving you a wide berth and staying close to the colony.

So, it's rather notable when a bay opens and a trio of machines exit, coming directly towards you.

>>
>>47395011
..Keep calm, make sure we can figure out who these guys are. Because if they are fakers, we could be in trouble.
>>
>>47394830
Ah, good point. I'm a bit confused by our stat block looking over it now, though. If the shields we had were standard, they should take 1 slot but only cost 12cp. if they were active, they should take 9 slots and cost 18 cp.

But lets see, we have 7 space to work with, so we need to drop 27 size, which would be 13.5 additional SP. Total cost would be 34+13.5=47.5, or 11.5 more than we currently spend on shields. Anything that does 15 kills or less of ranged damage would just bounce off.

Stat line would be something like
Reactive Anti-range mega heavy shield (15SP, 47.5CP, 7S, 7.5T) And it'd be spread through both arms and the head.

Remember Roarke likes to take trophies off of worthy opponents
>>

>>
>>47395193
Didn't we only do that to Zangief, though?

Man you know they aren't giving the Sergeant back. If they do there is nothing stopping us from blasting them!

>>
>>47395237
There is our good word. If we just shoot people right after we get prisoners back we wont see many prisoners coming back to us alive.
>>
>>47395264
The fact that a government is negotiating with pirates at all is strange.
>>
>>47395280
Pirates getting hands on advanced military cloaking technology is a pretty strange situation.
>>
>>47395236
Thats the point. We did it only to zangief. If they are trying to frame us, masquerading as Roarke, then we can counter them and break off.

Since yours is the one with the ASP, you enlarge your sensor screens. That...that is a rather large number of highly illegal CIWS turrets installed on Auditorium.

You slow down, and your squadmates do the same.

A voice crackles over the comms, "Yo, unidentified mecha. This is First Mate Miles Longshadow of the Iron Kestrels. ID yourselves for the sake of formality and state your purpose here. You're too fucking close to our bay and we don't like the look of that battleship you've got, so keep your distance."

Closer up, it's an awkward looking black and silver saucer flanked by an ungainly looking jet and a more elegant, bladelike jet.

As one, they transform into their humanoid form. The one in the rear with the big cannon still looks pretty awkward.

"...Should we not be more polite, leader?" Inquires a softly masculine voice from the most refined-looking of the three. You can only assume they're some kind of big Harpies.

"They're the fucking UJCIDF, they don't have feelings." The leader responds.

You hear a sigh over the comms, "This is Lieutenant Pierre Blanchett of SOUL Squad A. We're here to negotiate the release of Corporal Samantha Blanchett. Please inform your captain tha-"

"HEY. You think I'm joking, or are you trying to be cool, silent types? I only like that shit when it comes from my boyfriend, so you'd better tell me why you're here before I get angry." The leader's sniper rifle gesticulates angrily at the three of you, "Who's in charge? Is it you, Caution Stripes? Maybe the pink one? Or is it big red? We've got a headpiece like that in our bar, I wouldn't mind making it twice as big if you shitheads don't start talking NOW!"

>[What do?]

>>47395264
You think the LT is going to be content to let these guys go after they beat him up and kidnapped his sister?

>>
>>47395353

should we get out of the mechs to show we arent dangerous?
>>
By the way, the Master Harpy Rick Variant is up on the pastebin. Someone was dissatisfied with missiles in an earlier thread because they're usually shaped charges rather than having a big, explosive radius. Richard Thorslund's Gungnir launcher, however, does not have that limitation.

...and neither does the S-Swordtail, whose stats are forthcoming. I'm still working on Naomi's S-Puffer, I've had to redo it more than once.
>>
>>47395353
Have everyone in the squad try to contact the pirates. If that fails, try to relay comms through the battleship. Put out one hand in a stopping motion while we figure things out. Maybe tap our head in the ear area?

Raise our hands in a placating manner, they try to hail them. If nothing works, we gesture talking with our hand and then shrug.

"Hey, pirate." It's a breach of protocol for you to address an enemy without authorization, but there might really be something wrong with the Lieutenant's comms.

"I AM DEAD SERIOUS YOU BASTARDS! I need parts for a better railgun, and I'll take it out of your hides if you cross me." That big rifle is pointing dead on at Naomi. You don't like that. You don't like that one little bit. You like the big missile boat's huge launcher even less.

"LT, what's going on? Our comms are working, aren't they?" Naomi calls out.

"Ally frequency is." The LT chips in.

You begin flashing your spotlight in morse code at the pirates, they stare at you.

"He's flashing me right in my eyes, Rick. He wants to die. He wants me to shoot him." Miles' gun swivels around towards you. You have your finger on the trigger of your lance. She's about five hundred meters away, you could reach her.

"Please, I think he is speaking Morse code." The smallest of the big Harpies pushes the First Mate's gun away.

"Well I don't speak no fucking Morse code. How do I tell 'em to surrender?" She sounds quite sulky.

I have no idea if coms in space are radio based, but if they are and ally comms are working, can we change the frequency of our ally comms to some universal broadcast band and turn off encryption?
>>
>>47395828

Thank god, communicate the problem and have the other two start communicating with the ship and rookies. We need to be on our toes if a squad doesn't report in.

You send out a basic SOS. You're college-educated and a genius, you know how to do that.

The Martian's machine floats closer to yours. It has...well, that's worrying. Those are beam sabers. Crude beam sabers, but still definitely beam sabers. This shouldn't be. Beam weapons are a new technology the Terrans have shared with the UJCIDF as part of the SSL's Joint Forces experiments. You wonder if he's somebody important, and where exactly he stole them from.

You tap the side of your head with your fists. He shrugs at you. You spell out S-A-M. He shrugs again, "Can you hear me, effendi?" He does have a thick Martian accent, but you're fairly sure effendi isn't an insult.

You make the Swordfish nod. He gestures towards the colony, "Your machines are for trade, then? Splendid, but...I do not know if she is for sale. A woman goes where she will, this is known."

>>47396612

>>
Just to clarify, you have to decide whether you want to enter this mech bay or not. You know exactly what the Iron Kestrels are going to do with three new Medium Weight mechs.
>>
>>47396612
Make sure to double check ALL systems as well for all three things. If comms are off, then there may be something else just incase.
>>
>>47396630
The Roarke side of me wants us to go in but the Caesar side doesn't
>>
>>47396630
Don't go into the bay. We now know our comms don't work. What else won't work when we need it to? The mechs need to be checked out before we do this.
>>
>>47396630
This may be for the best with the chance to actually get things talked about in person. The jaburo did say they would be there to keep an eye out. Just got to play it cool and explain things diplomatically.

Morse to him if he actually knows Morse.
If he doesn't give any response, assume not; then gesture for him to wait a while while we attempt to jury rig the our IFF system to recognize him temporarily as an ally and see if that lets us comms him.
If that still doesn't work, there's nothing we can do other than pull back for repairs.
>>
>>47396630
Hell no that is a terrible idea.
>>
>>47396705
This and have ALL of the scouts and patrols triple check their systems as well.
>>
>>47396764
Well what else can we do? If comms aren't working then the other options are go negotiate in person or use Morse for the entire thing.
>>47396766
And Hell have the Jaburo make rundown of it's system as well.
>>
>>47396766
Yeah, our sensors are probably fucked too. Someone's probably flying right next to the jaburo with a big fucking bomb and we have no idea they're there.
>>
>>47396810
One of our machines might have a bomb in them. Would be a tragedy that would rile up both sides. Especially if its our girlfriend or the son of the great war hero.
>>
>>47396802
>>47396764
we could do this. or give them one of our allied channels to communicate propperly. yes, its an stupid idea, but is better than nothing.
>>
>>47396863
Or we could, you know, just go back to the ship and look at what the problem is.

By far the craziest plan thrown out there.
>>
>>47396810
Yea probably good idea to REPORT THIS major malfunction to Maid lady and have her make a patrol come check the ship over from the outside.
>>
>>47396802
>>47396863
We could fuck off back to our ship and get the problem fixed.
>>
>>47396898
Unless the mech has an actual cockpit that the pilots can look out of, the video feed can still be tampered with.
>>
Might as well tell them we think something funny might be up and to watch out
>>
You shake your head. He cocks his to one side. You're trying to size up the amount of damage he could do to your mech if he doesn't like your answer, and you suspect he's doing the same. His is lighter, yours has more powerful.

You morse out N-O with your spotlight, tap your head again, and point back at your ship.

"This is difficult. I would raise the Admiral over comms for you, but he is...otherwise engaged. He is a busy man. Are you determined not to accept our hospitality?"

>[Are you?]
>>
>>47396939
Well that's just asking for a fight. Tell him no again. If he pushes the issue paste him.
>>
>>47396939
Attempt to spell out BRB in Morse and point at ship and then motion to your mech comm's
>>
>>47396939
Tell him we think something funny is going on and were gonna go back to our ship to make sure every thing is alright and they should be on guard
>>
>>47396959
Dude, we don't want to start shit. And Mohammad would probably have a good chance against Caesar.
>>
>>47396939
Lets morse out BRB and fix this "Small" malfunction, Then have a patrol do a visual inspection of the ship looking for Anything out of the norm.
>>
>>47396994
You possibly don't want to start shit. The pirates have so far not exactly gotten on caesar's good side.
>>
>>47397019
Generally killing the only guy you can communicate with is a poor way to start negotiations.
>>
>>47397066
If said guy tries to kill you, he's stopped trying to communicate.
>>
>>47397082
And if we destroy the negotiators they might just slit the hostages throat and be done with it and try to kidnap you three
>>
>>47397082
He hasn't tried to do anything yet.
>>
That being said, you could morse them the commo frequency your squad is using, seeing as your squads mechs have their frequency settings locked into one setting.
>>
>>47397104
And then they get their colony overrun by the giant battleship still sitting outside.
>>
>>47397015
This is the best possible thing we can do right now. That is unless Fairchild posted a group of Spec-OPS to take over the Jaburo in case things don't go according to her plan.
>>
>>47397119
And if they knew they were going to lose they might just kill her to spite the team and make their mission a failure
>>
>>47397119
And nobody gets what they want. Or we could cool our fucking jets and try to fix a problem first.

>>47397288
Here's what's happening: A pirate is getting pushy about putting our mechs in a compromising position after stating he thought we were going to sell them for the hostage, that he's also insinuated is not a hostage.

So yes, if he forces the issue and says enter the bay or else, we paste him.

>>47397342

>>
You morse out B-R-B and gesture emphatically at the ship while both Naomi and the Lieutenant yell out advice, mostly about what to spell out that you're ignoring. The Lieutenant's is primarily variations on "GIVE MY SISTER BACK OR WE'LL SMEAR YOU ACROSS SPACE", and Naomi is saying that she could tear them apart without anyone's help.

The three Master Harpies retreat slightly.

The saucer-shaped one, Miles, taps its big gun impatiently against its shoulder, "Is he surrendering?" She sounds disappointed.

The bladelike one, the Martian, shakes its head, "Their comm units are somehow damaged and they cannot negotiate effectively."

"So, they aren't surrendering? How many mecha can we get out here in a hurry?" Miles' mech scratches her head.

Mohammed shakes his head, "Not enough, this is fine. Besides, they want to talk. The Admiral would want them to go back to their ship, fix their comms, and return...at which time he should be done with..."

"Yare yare da ze~ Kouhai, we outnumber them. That pink and gold one would look much better with a proper samurai's crest." A new voice appears on the comms.

"So why are you telling them that?" The previously silent, awkward-looking one glances at the newcomer, a heavily modified Morgan 2 leveling an autocannon at the three of you.

"Because the way of the warrior is honorable. They know what we do. Odds are good these are their three best mecha."

You recognize that distinctive aesthetic. Holy shit you have a model of his mech. You have it posed being uppercutted by the King Swordfish Mk I, your dad's mech, on your desk.

"Come on, Pierre, Caesar, let's go before this gets ugly." Naomi's mech puts its hand on the Swordfish Mk. II's shoulder.

"Captain Oda, sir, we cannot..."

"NO! I AGREE!" Bellows the Morgan II. "He has shown the stance of a fellow bushi, and his mech...I recognize that profile and the mighty Tonbo-Giri it wields. Mohammed-kun, you are right, it would be dishonorable to ambush them."

Somehow, Mohammed's Harpy manages to look relieved...until the Osano-Wo tosses its autocannon to him and draws a pair of swords from scabbards at its waist. Their edges glow with a thin plasma coating, "Stripes-kun, do you desire to face me in a duel? I dislike waiting, and I have gotten bored enjoying peerless scenery and S-Pop. If you lose, you shall be our captive. If you win, you may have Mohammed. What say you?" He poses dramatically on the hull of his ship, pointing directly at your mech.

OKAY!! Let's take a vote here. Who thinks that the Green Skulls are going to attack and attempt to wipe out both of us? And who thinks the General has planted something on either our mechs or the Jaburo that will destroy either for a reason to attack California?

>>
>>47398075
me, but i don't think the skulls will wipe us. i'm pretty sure we will have to team up with the pirates and drive them off. and as for the other sentence... i hope not.
>>
>>47398106
Either case we need to get back on ship and do a look over if there is anything odd other than our systems. The other two should know their machines enough for field repairs and what could go wrong. Treat it like an emergency repair check up. Anything that screams TRAP, goes and is disabled if possible.
>>
>>47398095
Wasn't the Aussie on the General's ship heading to Jupiter?
>>
>>47398075
The fact that we can hear them and they can hear us must mean that our comms have been encrypted without our knowledge to make us seem more aggressive than we really are. Someone is banking on a confrontation and it isnt us.
>>
>>47398075

General had our comms sabotaged. She figured the pirates we were negotiating with were volatile and would attack, or that the Lieutenant would become frustrated over not getting his sister and attack. Either way, we probably wouldn't survive the battle. One inconvenient-by-bloodline Lieutenant, one nerd, and one inconsequential medic, all dead. She has had the whole thing recorded from the carrier, which sees an attack, providing all the excuse needed to move in and wipe out both pirate groups, regardless of hostages. That footage goes on air, and public opinion turns against all the pirates, even Red Siren. The General gets carte blanche to do what she likes, with her sociopathic and utterly obedient Squad B. Its an ok plan.

The only way it could be BETTER...is if the same sabotage that cut the comms could rig the weapons to all cut loose at once. Especially with the missile packs...which may or may not either target an enemy mech, or just have friend-or-foe homers.....
>>
>>47398179

You flash your lights at him, and the Martian one translates, before adding, "I do not agree in any way, shape or form with this."

"YOU MUST LEARN FROM YOUR SENSEI. Protesting isn't kawaii, a warrior can only fight at his utmost when he fully dattebayos. I believe in myself, Mohammed-kun, and I want a resin model of my favorite mech from my childhood. As my student, you are essentially my foster-child. Therefore, it is my right to make these decisions for you...or course, you could always fight yourself. You will never grow strong without conflict, a bushi's technique only grows through conflict."

While they're arguing, you and Naomi and Pierre zip out of there. You're sure the Master Harpies could catch up, but they don't seem very enthusiastic and the man you presume to be the Captain of the Storm Dragons is gesticulating at them with his swords. For your sanity, you turn off the comms...and get back to the Jaburo as quickly as possible. The Lieutenant spends several terse moments on his PC talking with the Colonel once you return to your ship, then looks up at you, "Good news, Ensigns. She issued an immediate order to check the logs on the mech bay. Apparently, she spent the morning before launch making sure that proper paperwork and login procedures are filled out anytime anyone works on a mech. It's not normally a requirement on a Wels, but the Arapaima she had before was a bit bigger."

An Arapaima is, indeed, a bit bigger. You've never seen one, but they're massive production and science ships, mostly assigned to the extrasolar forces. Military vessels, of course, but not quite the dedicated hammers of the UJCIDF fleet that a Wels is. Their biggest strength is that they can carry and field a massive number of mecha at once, and carry huge numbers of people.

looks like we got a paper trail boys. Time to send the security teams hunting.
>>
>>47398249
Wait, are you saying military bureaucracy and red tape was actually a good thing for once?

huh
>>
>>47398249
If the crew of the ship figure out that Hamon sent them on a suicide mission to further her own plans do you think Roarke would be able to convince them to turn on the Navy?
>>
>>47398343
Maybe some of them. Doubt we would get the ship or mechs though.
>>
>>47398319
Every once in a while, things work well. Also, if we get her and Doctor Zam, we need to get a bald old man, a strict businessman with a thing for order and proper codes, and a friendly, charasmatic pilot who could become a good friend and leader.

Also 3 hicks, a blonde kid with a love of burgers, and another guy with a mustache who likes blue.
>>
>>47398375
Thats most likely what would happen but mechanically Roarke's pretty hard to resist a persuasion roll considering his bonus especially if he rolls a ten and adds luck points into it
>>
>>47398343
Better to make them informants than straight defection. The General would probably send whoever destroyed Suleiman to end us.
>>
>>47398343
Nope, and something tells me if there was sabotage it would be from the mystery faction the "terran rogue" represents. Not to say that fairchild is beyond such things. There are alot of people from different corners who would've like to see the exchange turn into a shootout, with the odds on papaer (numbers and armaments) favouring the jovians. So many possibilities. The going rogue thing is just ridiculous though.
>>
>>47398397
Not everyone is as willing to turn a complete 180 from being military to piracy as certain lady boys getting the D and as cool as he is roarke isnt magic. He only got 20 something guys from Suleiman
>>
>>47398427
He's an Aussie mate. I don't think he works for anybody.
>>
>>47398446
Just curious if he could do it as far as mechanics goes
>>
>>47398447
He works for anyone who provides him with a ton of piss-cheap beer and an internet connection to express his top-tier bantz.
>>
>>47398453
Really, I think the best option would be doing a joint operation on the Green Skulls. The SOUL unit were designed for it and they both have a common enemy. It wouldn't be joining, but rather a common enemy that needs to be put down.
>>
>>47398479
and a hat with croc teeth on it. Speaking of which have obtained the items needed to sway him to our side?
>>
>>47398528
How much space Vegemite do we need?
>>
You're not a mechanic at all, but in the time it takes the Lieutenant to finish talking with the Colonel, the actual technicians have time to look at your machine.

As time goes on, the Lieutenant is looking happier and happier, until he's finally grinning.

Meanwhile, Naomi nudges your arm, "I never quite took my Morse training as seriously as you did...what exactly were you talking about? You're not really going back there, are you? What are you going to do, fight him on your own?"

>[What say?]
>>
>>47398585
Hell no, he's a pirate. We're going to get what we came for, that's it.
>>
>>47398585
Hopefully in two hours the headman will show up himself and we wont have to.
>>
>>47398585

>Captain Oda wants to 1v1 me. What am I supposed to do, say no?
>>
>>47398585
Honestly? Probably the best bet to do this with as little bloodshed as possible. Losing may make negotiations harder, but with our coms down, chances are hostilities would have happened and turn this into a huge shitstorm for everyone. Everyone is going to make it out of this alive or with as few casualties as possible.

Also why is the lieutenant smiling? Him smiling is scary.
>>
>>47398585
He gave his word dammit and now that our comms are being fixed we must engage in an honorable dual.
I just want to see how well Caesar goes up against Oda. You know after we tell them why we are actually there for.
>>
>>47398585
Well, I always wondered how I'd stack up against Oda...
>>
>>47398585
"Its a duel, and I doubt he intends it to be to the death. And given that the prisoner exchange is probably going to be for hard cash if worst comes to worst, and I'm too good for that, my machine gets trashed and then ransomed back and I have that hanging over me. Look at it this way, its an opportunity to beat some pirate ass without ruining the exchange."
>>
>>47398662
>Losing may make negotiations harder,

Losing means Caesar willingly turns himself over to Oda.

Whereas winning gives us Moe.

That's like, the shittiest deal.
>>
>>47398704
Either one means we can gain intel also.
>>
>>47398727
Good point, if we end up captured they'll probably put us in the holding cells which might give us a chance to speak with Sam and figure out how to bust her out or at least whats going on
>>
>>47398704
Its a shit deal indeed. Though I'm sure if it comes down to it the prize can be rengotiated with our comes working before we start. Though on reflection if we got mo and his mech we could trade them back for sam and her mech without paying that bigass ransom money.
>>
>>47398757
mainly what's going on. Let's face it Wong's going to throw a curveball at us and force Roarke and Caesar to work together
>>
