Howdy
***
Once we are back home, we have a light meal and a bath before going to bed with a book.
Thankfully, the permanent light candle we enchanted way back is still good to go, so we place it on a shelf over our bed and get comfortable with one of the thick record books Yin handed to us.
Honestly, its just a series of handwritten numbers, dates and names. Since the Heavenly Empire is still used to writing numbers into words rather than using symbols, its really hard on the reader.
Baron Solis, Three thousand three hundred thirty two tons of corn. Tax collected, Three hundred and three tons of corn grains.
It is all written like that. A single line with each region, city, town and noble's harvest, tax and such, one under the other.
Honestly, columns and proper numbers will make things so much faster and easier to read and write.
~O~
Even though it is still mostly summer, this high up the mountains there's not much humidity, and with the high temperature difference between night and day, the temperature is more than cold enough for us to have the windows closed.
Well, dad had the manor's original windows replaced by double glass ones, so its actually quite warm once you close them, to the point it can be slightly hot after just a few minutes in a room.
In the height of summer, its hot enough that you want to keep the windows open, but at any other time of the year, you'd keep them closed.
"Eldric, make room." ~Lyann comes in from her bath. She is glowing with that fresh-off-the-shower look as she crawls into the bed with us.
We part the sheets and she stretches on top of us before we pull them back over the both of us. Her beautiful, soft body feels great as it gets squished between the sheets and our pajamas.
"Shouldn't you wear something to bed?"
"But you like it like this, don't you?" ~ she answers with a little smile as she supports her face on our chest

The god of alcohol reads a prophecy saying that he will die soon. To ensure people will remember him, he engineers it so that his power will distribute equally into every tavern wench in the land, granting them all superhuman physical powers roughly on par with level 12 warblades. What happens after he dies? How does this affect society?
>>46093867
Baldurs Gate: Tavern wench edition happens. Everywhere int he land, powerful tavern wenches emerge, eager to prove their worthiness to lay claim to the god's throne. They amass armies of drunks and the entire world is soaked in blood and beer.
It's fricking awesome. Basically a heavy metal festival.
>>46093867
Probably they become much higher in social status, and a new generation of ordinary women takes over wenching.
>>46094049
What if the power is not something inherited by people, but inherited by the very profession of tavern wench? Would that mean every tavern is a temple? Does that mean getting hammered and grabbing a tavern wench's tits is a sacred act?

THE BLACK KNIGHT ALWAYS TRIUMPHS
116: No greater pain than that of others.
You're name is a secret. You are, however, Ryuu Ryukusa; you've just brought a friend who was trying to help you to your priestess – your personal priestess, who worships you as a deity of sorts – because you may have inadvertently inflicted some serious spiritual trauma on her.
The fact that this is not the strangest thing that's happened to you in a given week is kind of problematic.
Currently, Matagama Kiku is examining your new friend, a half-kappa by the name of Toshida Ginka. The Fire dragonette's...

Took you a week to learn to pronounce that (in)correctly, damned if you're not going to use it.
Yui speaks softly, looking across Ginka's unconscious form at you and your wife. “The spiritual power of kami and youkai is a lot like radiation in some ways. If you're around it too much without protection, it can make you vulnerable to spiritual disease or injury. It's worse when you're around powerful kami or youkai. That's why purification rituals are so important to the priestesses...

TRPG GMs! Have you ever used an enemy that was many, many times larger than the PCs, and made it easier to fight said enemy by giving separate body parts separate stat blocks? Like a kraken where each limb is treated as a separate NPC?
How did that work out? Did you come up with quirks to the fight? Like, tentacles can't be blinded on their own, but if you throw shit at the kraken's face you can 'blind' every tentacle at once? Or someone trying to use one part of the monster as cover against itself? How did you rule things like that? Did it turn into a clusterfuck?
I suspect I chose a shitty time to make this thread.
No, you asked a dumb question.
I did something similar once. It was essentially a mechanical war machine, game-wise it was a bunch of traps attached to a moving platform, it payed out much like what you're talking about, player targeting individual parts and maneuvering in and out of reach. Went pretty well, payers got a lot more creative since they had options for disabling different parts of the creature as opposed to just damaging it, I'd definitely run a similar encounter again in the future.
So last night I was getting really tired when playing with my group. They'd picked up a cursed book that was on a dead guy, and I told them they shouldn't do that without at least like, gloves or something - the thing could kill them. But they ignored me, and one player even went as far as to say that I could've killed this guy, Being all "oh, isn't this exactly the kinds of thing YOU make? How do you know SO much about it?"
But I remembered that I, in real life, had a blank notepad in my bag, so thought to hell with it. I summoned a similar...

I think there's 2 categories that are good to have tangible at the table: Character items and story items.
The character items include neat ways to illustrate counters like casings for damage or snacks for rations, but also unique items that the PCs pick up and which serve a function in the game, like weapons.
The story items are central to the plot. They're handouts which contain clues, riddles, or maps. They may serve a specific function, or just provide information and flavoring. But they are always Chekhov's Gun in that the players know they will serve a function even if that remains mysterious simply because the GM or the author took the time to create them.
So story items always convey meta information merely by being there. I sometimes subvert this by giving out prop handouts early on which only convey flavor. But I never do it once the plot has gained tension because that would be too misleading. For example I started a 40s scenario with the characters confined on a Royal Navy brig with cigarettes and matches in period packaging, old timey playing cards, and a few classic glass bottles of Coke.

Post any art requests you have ITT. Keep in mind, the drawfriends are doing this for free, so do not be surprised or upset if they gloss over your post. Just be patient, and bump your request ONE time, every 24 hours after posting it. Don't be a jerk and immediately repost your request because you don't like the FREE art you received.
Additionally, please provide good, detailed references (pictures are better than verbal descriptions), so the artists know what you're looking for as best you can.
If you've recently had a request filled by a drawfriend, please be considerate of less fortunate anons and hold off on additional requests for a while.
Mind your manners, don't be rude to other people's requests, and remember to say thank you! And please, please, lurk before posting your request. It will save everyone some uncomfortable moments.

Could I get a portrait of my Deep Stalker Ranger for an upcoming 5e game?
He's lived in the Underdark since he was a kid, when he fell down a pit while hiding in a cave during a bandit attack on his village. As a character he's a mix between Max Rockatansky, Gollum, any number of characters from Apocalypse Now, and Robin Williams from Jumanji.

Requesting a god from my setting
A large throne in the center of a library made of books (couldn't mind a good throne of books, so I just went with, The Iron Throne, but made of books)
sitting on it is a mage looking guy in a black robe. His hood overs most of his face and he has a magical glowing book in one hand. (kinda like Malcador in the picture)
Next to him on the floor is a dire wolf with reddish fur. (He's married to the Goddess of the Hunt. The wolf was her gift to him)
Is it possible to have a "good" oriented Chaos cult, based around the opposite aspects of the gods (like they were when the warp was calm)? i.e.
>worship Nurgle, god of growth and health
>Slaanesh, goddess of love and generosity
>Khorne, god of mercy and forgiveness
>Tzeentch, god of wisdom and reason
Have you ever used such a cult in your RPGs or based an army around them?
You could start one, but it will be tainted in very short order.
Well the Chaos Gods do operate like a monkey's paw where you get some benefits and then they sodomize you. Tzeentch gives you knowledge at the price of a backstabbing.
Chaos is all about extremes, man.
Nobody goes into chaos because they're evil.
They WANT the good aspects. But the inherent imbalance caused by these gods of emotional excess and extreme makes it bad.
Nurgle will give you health and vitality, but he'll also indiscriminately give all the microorganisms in you health and vitality, and force you to give health and vitality to bugs.
Slaanesh will give you love and generosity, but will also demand your love to the exclusion of all others, and keep taxing that generosity.
Khorne will give...

For a general purpose, fairly generic type of anime premise like Chivalry of a Failed Knight, which is the superior system? Is the sped up bookkeeping and streamlining of OVA worth the trade off of a more granular system like BESM (compared to just the d6 pools of ova, not compared to something like gurps obviously)?
>>46091184
Go with OVA. Really, now that I'm older, I've come to realize that most games are really up to the DM in how he does it. Go with whatever's simpler, because a magical high school battle anime doesn't have as much focus on sheer stats as a traditionally combat-heavy game would have.
>>46091254
This, desu.
>>46091184
Actually, is a high-school battle anime even a good choice for a RPG campaign? Like, Chivalry (Or Asterix, which was an inferior version) doesn't have a lot of fights that aren't one-on-one duels.
There's not much opportunity for your PCs to work together as a unit, unless they have to fight big groups of mooks or it's a team tournament. Contrast that to something like Gundam, where you can reasonably expect the players to function as a small hyper-elite military unit.
I mean,...

>What's this board's opinion on AR taking a leap into tabletop?
Imagination trumps AR.
AR have the limitations of computer gaming and in some cases more.
>>46091041
Eh. In terms of HUDs, I don't see a particular use outside of pointing at a figure to pull up stats/inventories/possible actions. Particle effects are just bland window dressing.
I can see the point inquickly setting up incredibly detailed backgrounds on the fly, but you're going to need either a whole lot of motors or a whole lot of prepared blocks to add height back in for you physical minis.
There's also, you know, the main problem we have now: lack of content. There's all these...

It needs to stay out, completely. I don't care if the technology progresses, the only electronics that should be close to necessary at the gaming table is the tablet where you will find the rulebooks, and even then there should be a print alternative.
