Let's discuss Degenesis, the post-apocalyptic game that triggers /pol/.
On an unrelated note, I have a question for everyone. In my campaign, I've added an Apocalyptic NPC. She's not particularly smart or charismatic (a Battle Crow, not a Magpie), but I let her bypass the need for Cunning rolls by telling cheap half-truths. For instance, the Anabaptist asked her about Burn, and she replied "It's horrible stuff.", which satisfied him (and his player, who is cool with his character being as dumb as a brick), but if people call her on it should...

Anyway, as for your inquiry, who cares, you're not supposed to make NPCs roll except for combat. If a player is suspicious, let him roll Empathy or whatever social skill is relevant, setting the difficulty to what you feel would be appropriate (so pretty low in that case).
>>46085919
Well, yes, the NPC wouldn't roll, it'd be the PC doing that. But since the NPC doesn't have particularly high stats (they actually originally were drawn from a premade character packet I made), she happens to have full stats regardless.
I'm more asking about whether or not it's considered a "dirty trick" to use overly exact language: She gives a half-truth, players ask if she's lying, and I imply that she isn't.

I am /pol/.
This triggers me.
REEE.
Hey /tg/.
I'm running a L5R session on the 25th. And I have major writers block, I'm normally really good with figuring out what to do next, even more so when I'm fresh off a previous session. But for the past week I've gotten like nothing done. How the hell do I get past this kinda writers block, my mind is just.. Like empty. I have vague idea's and themes and whatever - But when I try to put that to paper it just vanishes.
I'm starting to get really frustrated and kinda panicky, as I like to try my best at giving an enjoyable experience...

What's happened so far?
>>46085265
Previous session had them on a path of revenge to kill a guy who cost them everything by lying and betraying them. They found out where he was, planned an attack on his home and killed him and every other living being on or near the house to cover their tracks.
this session I want to jump a few months into the future and have it be very loosely connected to the previous one. Where the consequences of those actions are not yet evident and in the players face. So it will be heavily disconnected.. for now.

/tg/ seemed to lose interest with them once their "blue grot" died.

Died? In what sense? Or just that she became less popular?
Anyway, as cute as she was, she was never the best part of the stories. She was the main character in one, right? Or was it a few?
So I finally got around reading this novel, and holy shit it's been a while since the last time I enjoyed a 40k read this much.
It's everything a book about a fairly unknown chapter should be.
>good exposition of the chapter, you quickly know their history, their members, their way of life, their culture
>actually showing the chapter in a tight spot, being a poor chapter in bumfuck nowhere, having trouble replenishing their losses and maintaining their equipment due to lack of techmarinesComment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Why would you need exposition on the Ultramarines?

>but don't have the determination to learn the rules and find a group to play with
Then you do not want to get into fantasy RPG's.
If you want to do it, OP, then you need to do it. Otherwise, you'll just sit in the corner and wonder why you're not having fun, not realizing that it's because you didn't actively look for it.
A (perhaps) worthwhile thread died for your lazy ass whining. Suck it up or piss off.
>>46080606
>learn the rules
That part is actually incredibly easy as long as you stay away from 3.PF and crunchy systems at the start.
>find a group to play with
Hard party, but easy enough if you have friends who may be interested or can find a game someone else is running. They can show you the ropes for that.
I have seen some people arguing that rpgs are turning into plays(theater and drama), whats your opinion on this?
>>46080578
The moment LARPs came to exist, that line was already crossed.
>>46080578
The Theatre in the Round and Rolltastic Chartfest have always been the two poles of tabletop. You're seeing more rules-light storygames nowadays, but some of that is just advancement of game design itself leading to a fill-in of a previously threadbare niche.
>>46080645
so what will happen to tabletops in 10 years?
I was recently playing a 3.5 campaign with my friends, and we've noticed that combat tends to take really long. We just played a 4 hour session, and 3 of those hours were combat! And I think it's because sometimes there's turns where we just swing at a minion, do some damage or miss, and that's it. I was thinking of maybe changing it so combat is a bit more visceral; people get fucked up a lot easier. What sort of things do you guys do to streamline it?
>>46080514
Stop accruing hit points at level 5 or so. Give anyone with full BAB half damage on a miss. This had the added bonus of making "stab it to death" remain a viable option a little later than usual.
>>46080514
Attacks now deal [BAB]X[Weapon damage] min 1x damage.
E.g. a level 3 fighter with a Longsword now deals 3d8+ Strength Modifier.
>>46080514
If you want fast combat, 3.5 is not for you.
Alternatively, end campaigns by level 5.
Sry it's bols, but you know, still newsworthy...

I'm not the kind of person who constantly whines about everything GW does, but it is kind of frustrating how they flip flop all the time.
First they say they're not a games company but a model company, then they churn out tons of board games and now bring back competitive play.
I mean, it's a smart idea, adding points to AoS and catering to the clearly present tournament-enjoying customer base, but why didn't you just do this shit in the first place instead of axing tournaments and fantasy points?
Like, I'm not about to praise GW...

40k is absolute garbage for competitive play. Players constantly have to house rule shit that is and isn't allowed just to have a game that doesn't end in being tabled by whatever cheesy bullshit model GW are trying to shill that month.
For tight rules suitable for tournaments, there's stuff like Warmahordes and Dropzone Commander, suits the time constraints of tournament rounds so much better and at least an attempt is made to balance these games.
>>46081119
We just need to keep improving on the globally accepted house rules and fixing GW's retardation.
Pokemon is a complete shit game for competitive play too, but Smogon made it work. When you can turn a game that features Mewtwo and Rayquaza and turn it into a competitive system where the biggest complaints come down to 50/50 predictions and 10-30% chance of missing/being paralyzed/frozen, I think that's pretty good.
It just shows 40k can be made competitive you just need a shit ton of revisions.
