How would /tg/ go about running a game like pic related?
Well, I'd tell my players that I've secretly placed child porn onto each of their computers and then notified the police that I'd discovered it on their computer.
Then I'd take a drill to their kneecaps, claiming self defense after they discovered my sacrifice in the name of civic duty.
And then I'd mail them bombs in jail. Dirty bombs.
At this point, I would inform anyone who had managed to survive that the only other option I had was to try and run a fucking farming simulator for our next game because some stupid asshole on the...

Or, you know, Mouse Guard.
Ryutama.
Risus.
Burning Wheel.
If you actually knew what you were talking about or had any imagination, you'd come up with many ways to play a "farming simulator" that had social encounters and dungeon crawling and fighting against monsters. Earth spirits that only few can see... Fucking wizards, too.

Currently worldbuilding for a D&D/PF setting where magic has become institutionalized and "rogue magi" (i.e: someone not formally trained by state run academies) are seen as dangerous and tracked down by specially trained agents (I'm thinking that there was an arcane cataclysm in the past that has everyone afraid of them). I was thinking that these agents (for want of a better word) would use have access to a special material that disrupts magic casting, like a mundane version of counterspell. Anyone know of anything that would fit the bill?
That is the dragon age universe. The rogue magi are apostates, the agents are templar and the institution is the circle of magi for the mages and the chantry for the templar

Really? I've...acually never played the games. What can I do to make it different enough without everyone going "Simpsons did it" on me?
>>46324959
>"rogue magi"
That's not a good term for them.
You can call them "witches" or "black mages" or whatever, but if you use the same terminology as for your real mages, then you definitely cannot use such a weak qualifier as "rogue". These people are dangerous criminals, not lovable scoundrels.

Dash and friends got their day ruined by a fire, blowing out everyone’s asses, before Dash almost froze to death again. Barely kept on the brink of life, Dsh finally got treatment from a doctor.
With their foe injured and unable to flee very far, the gang took a day to relax, including Dash being dragged in front of the very friendly king of the city.
The king told the group they have to be out of the city...

While it's messy I have fun with the new lore and art. Some of it actually looks pretty good.
My father has just pass away and left me with a huge collection of his gaming books. Many of them are old and from the 70's. i plan to keep some of them but i was thinking of selling some of the other ones. What do you guys think would be the best way to go about doing that? My dad told me that Noble Knight games would be a good place or Gen Con but im currently in rolled in college in Virginia and dont live near Wisconsin. Some of the games he left are Ring world, the first Call of Cthulhu, panzer battles among other things. From what my dads says he says that his collection...

First of all, on a completely unrelated note, it'd be a terrible thing to steal something of your fathers to make some quick cash.
On a related note, don't you want to keep those? Just selling your fathers shit just after he passed sounds kind of cold.
>>46322910
I don't want to sell all of them but it is a huge collection and I just dont have the space.I would love for it to be auction off at Gen Con as that is something that my dad and i love doing and were we got most of the collection.I just know i wont be able to do all these books justice by keeping them in a box and it would be great to give these books to people who will take great care of them.
>>46322910
It could be that op inherited most of his assets after he passed and doesn't have room for them all.
OP idk if this would be your best option but I'd look for local cons happening in your state.
I personally probably wouldn't sell them immediately though and would probably try and hold on to most of them. But that's just me

The inevitable invasion of their home city-state mere days away, Samson and several others prepare for the worst. Planning on retreating North into Noba, at least for the time being, he, his family, and a few other folks and their families plan their retreats with little organization or assistance from the lord of the land.
A few days later, the flagship of Director Waldrick, as well as several others behind him, reach the shores of Holmstead, prepared for an easy fight. Rene, along with her own companions, prepares to fight for the Empire. Her and her sister have tasted battle back on the Isle of Wyrm, but this is their first "true" fight.
Little do they expect Sir Dyrus, accompanying King Augustus and many Noban Knights, to also be right on their collective way towards Holmstead to defend it, confident in the ease at which the few who remained North will defeat Director Belinda's forces.
Whose perspective will be followed?

Is there any good mechanical reason to wield a melee weapon in Cypher?
Ranged weapons have virtually no downsides compared to melee weapons. They deal the same damage for their light/medium/heavy weapon category, and they have the same accuracy.
There are no penalties for shooting an enemy point blank, and in fact, the difficulty is lowered by 1 (or 3 on a d20) for shooting an enemy point blank, which means that if an enemy is right next to you, you should fire your bow or your rifle rather than draw a melee sidearm. If you have a knife and someone is next to you,...

Twelve arrows or twelve crossbow bolts in the "fantasy" equipment list cost as much as a burlap sack, a candle, three torches, or a "rusty and worn" knife.
50 rounds in the "modern" equipment list cost as much as a duct tape roll, a flashlight, or a day's worth of trail rations.
50 shots' worth of energy in the "sci fi" equipment list cost the same as a day's worth of survival rations.
Does the physical attack inability of the Calm descriptor affect the Adept type's Onslaught when the energies are used to assail the target's physical form?
Calm descriptor:
>Inability: You’re just not a fighter. The difficulty of all physical attacks is increased by one step.
Adept type:
>Onslaught (1 Intellect point): You attack a foe within short range using energies that assail either his physical form or his mind. In either case, you must be able to see your target. If the attack is physical,...

I have created a game where my players and there people (medieval norse setting) will eventually get sent to a fantasy world from a portal in north America (as if explaining why the norse colony there suddenly disappeared).
Is there any other instances where a group of people got lost from the pages of history that I can use ?
For example I will add the knights templar who arrive later and become the worlds first human paladin group.
You want Drifters, OP.

You are Prince Meirion auk Gwyrren, the only sane man in a royal family with dubious concepts of strategy, justice, taxation, and governance in general. You have made it your goal in life to keep your family on the throne and your head firmly attached to your body.
Also, your evil uncle tried to chemically castrate you. You should deal with that.

Ok, memes aside, could his Steehl Rehn strategy have worked in the long run?
Or was he really the Field Marshal Haig of Space Marines, plagued by sheer incompetence that would cause his later downfall?

Look at his face
You tell me

Haig wasn't incompetent. He also never had a downfall. He was still in command of the BEF in the war-winning battles of 1918. If this interests you then Gary Sheffield's books 'Forgotten Victory' and 'The Chief' are worth reading. Even Haig's modern critics like Prior and Wilson reject the mythological version of him being an imbecile (their books are also good and worth reading).
Steel Rain is viable as a tactic because it's basically how Marines operate: shock...
