Loxodon.jpg
36 KB,
The tribe marches onward across the sea of grass, their huge frames compacting the earth down into a pathway for the herd to be guided along. The Loxodon are odd among nomads in that they rarely take mounts, instead preferring to lumber for all of the daylight hours in a long, drawn out journey. They travel in a convoy three wide, with several roaming behind to keep the massive herd of cattle and sheep in line.

The sound of shrill braying and trumpeting fills the air as the march continues, the Alpha marching triumphant, the tusks of the old Khan rising on their chain...

>The Emperor leans back on his throne.
>"Yes the same one. Times have changed, the orc horde from the north is relentless, without this aid the necromancers will fall within months, then we will have no shield on our northern front."
>"But our armies..."
>"Our armies are fully invested in the siege of the rebel capital now. The latest news from our generals say the rebel capital will fall within three month, then soon after that all of our overseas colonies will be reunified. The Empire will enter a new golden age, stronger than ever. THEN we will move our armies back to the main land and deal with our unsightly neighbours."
>"But why the adventurer's guild?"
>The Emperor smirks slightly.
>"Naturally the Empire cannot be seen helping our old enemy. A conspiracy of this size will no doubt attract the attention of the Paladin Order. Rest assured though any adventurers captured by the order will only suffer a show trial and a slap on the wrist, no one will be imprisoned or punished. Once we turn the table on the necromancers you and all your guild members will be richly rewarded. I give you my word."

I gather my demon and underground overlord allies to attack the kingdom from two different directions, then I poison the king with my sleeper agent to throw it off-balance. Then I ready my forces to invade. I hope my puppet ruler of the necromancer kingdom will not try to do anything stupid like imprisoning me, resurrecting the dead king as a lich, and getting himself killed in the process. I also hope that the king's daughter is not going to suddenly return and start wrecking the shit out of my allies, and secretly working with rebel necromancers to undermine my plan.
>>
>>46610237
Man, the necromancers have to be doing really fucking shitty if they can't even make their own corpses, especially in a war.

Also, HoMMIV necro campaign will forever have a special place in my heart for having a reasonable, non power hungry necromancer at the helm just once.

Different dimensions that are not usually connected physically to the "real" world. Some are afterlives, others are more along the line of shadow realms or embodiments of classical elements.
There are plenty of places in mythology, religions, and straight fantasy that would qualify as examples.

Have clones ever been a part of your campaign?

Why would a clone be inclined to kill the original?
17 replies and 6 images submitted. Click here to view.

Watch any movie with clones in it like The Island or Star Trek Nemesis. There could be a law or the clone's expiration date that will urge it to kill the original.

Sometimes it's pride, sometimes it's an alibi or it's paranoia.
>>
>>46607709

Maybe the clone thinks it's the original. Or wants to be.

I played a magical girl game once where a player had a marionette power (basically made a copy of themselves that they controlled like a puppet.).

As the game went on and the stresses of magic and life-or-death monster battles went on, the ability began to "mutate"... the character's mind began to shatter, and pieces of her personality went into the marionettes. At first this would just show up with them manifesting with slight differences from the original. Different hair color, eyes, even gender on time.

Then one day, they gained enough sentience...

Sup /tg/, ever played a game where the party's power levels were all over the place? How'd it work out?

Did the weaker party members find their own ways to be helpful or was it just one or two guys carrying the team?

How would you make a campaign where certain player characters are weaker than others by design?

Yes.

Make a campaign where Combat isn't always the best, or even a viable, option for resolving conflict.

True story, whenever I play wizards in DnD/Pathfinder, despite how broken they are in such systems, I always play a character who's alot weaker than the rest of the rest of the party, even the melee fighters....

Current game we're playing, there's another race in the setting besides humans, which is incomparably stronger than them. As in like, not even a hundred humans could defeat one. It kind-of poorly balances out though because the other race seem really poorly adjusted to average tasks and living, so us human characters ended up being skill monkeys and have a general competency as well as much better socially. There are still cased where there's a massive imbalance like in fights (which have proven to be extremely lethal) and my character for example always just...

Any GURPS game. Particularly superheroes.

You always have a dude who just makes Hawkeye and another dude who is practically invulnerable to physical harm and shoots laser beams out of his eyes that melt tanks.

GURPS is the best.

If you sell your soul to a demon, what's to stop you from asking for your soul for what you want?

I'm confused with the question. Do you mean a tradeback? You sell your soul for rad instrument shreddage, and then request to give the rad instrument shreddage back for soul? If that's the case, I'm sure you could ask, whether or not he'd agree to it is up to the demon.

the "No Refund" policy comes to mind here
>>
>>46607119
Because you're trusting a demon with your soul you dumbass. Even if he has to honor some kind of code you still pissed off a demon for wasting his time.

Lately I got the feeling I should probably just sell most of the stuff I collected over the years, because I'll never get around to do anything with it anyway.
Add to that, that with WHFB gone and 40k going in a direction I don't care about I any longer I really don't feel like I'm getting anything out of it.

Anybody else gets these old tomcat feelings from time to time? Like you just want to give up and walk away?
Any of you guys ever quit hobbies like that? Did you regret it or were you happier for it?

I've played 40k off and on for 20 some years. I quit playing for a handful of years after 4e came out and, to me, everything I enjoyed was butchered even worse than 2e->3e.
However, at the tail end of 4e and going into 5e, I found a shop that had a strong mix of crowds, some vets like me and people who had the same mindset when it comes to 40k as I do.
I don't need to worry about someone spamming jetbike Eldar in my shop, just...

Easily one of the upper half of chapter tactics, Bolter drill helps almost every unit that has chapter tactics. Plus Tank Hunters for devs which is amazing.

Your doing the Emperor's work anon, that is all that matters.

Bolter Drill is baller, just like everything from that chapter. My best mate has been playing Lysander since literally 4th and takes a 4 Heavy bolter squad of devs and a bunker these days, no matter the matchup. Its surprising just how effective those Heavy Bolters are, always underestimated. And Lysander is a badass no matter what.

Has the Fists fallen so low that they feel self conscious about their tactics?

By some time travel fuckery, you anon, have been transported back in time to the start of the Horus Heresy book series by the Black Library in the early oughts. By some witchcraft you are employed by the Black Library to select the authors for this series about to be embarked on, for higher quality, consistent novels lacking the character assassination done by most of the BL's normal writers.

By some magical powers, any author you contact will agree to this new version of the HH books. What more competent non-hack writers do you recruit for this endeavor, and why?...

I was lurking around one of the civs that are up and this anon had a very good idea for a quest that I will attempt to run for you guys tonight.

Anon suggested this: you are a demon trapped within a very pretty gem, or perhaps the gem is not pretty at all. Perhaps one merely thinks it is pretty. A "host" of sorts will come to possess this gem somehow. You, the demon, whisper suggestions and attempt to control the "host". There are a few things we need to figure out before we get started.

Copy and paste the next post. I will supply a list of...

1. What is your name? (Include any nicknames or titles)

2. What is your domain? (Most demons are attributed with certain powers or realms of influence)

3. How did you come to be "trapped" within the gem? (This is only semi-important)

Hey /tg/, I have a question.

What's the most lethal system you played? I'm looking for a system to run a post-apoc game and I found that weapons (Specifically firearms) are underwhelming in their lethality. Finding ammo isn't nearly as great when it means that one shotgun shell they find won't even put down a mook.

Pic not really related.

>He hasn't tried Savage Worlds yet

>>
>>46603111
Shadowrun is pretty lethal. Most of the times I've played, damage was either "your dermal plating absorbs the hit" or being spaghetti on the walls.

I'm afraid I've not played many other dangerous systems beyond that. I've heard that RuneQuest is quite lethal, for example, but don't have firsthand experience.
>>
>>46603172
Savage Worlds is a bit of an interesting one in that a single bad roll can outright kill you, but you can do much more with the same kinds of success.

It also lacks a lot of mechanical depth sadly and the whole quick death usually makes people go combat focused as much as possible I find.
