So what's the deal with L5R? Particularly the TCG, I've been reading about it in other threads previously and there's some information about FFG having bought it? I sort of wanted to get into the game but, if it's dead or at least changing hands should I hold off and see what happens? Is there any information about it or when it will potentially be released?
Gen Con Indy 2017, that's when they've said they're going to be introducing a new era.
Until then, we know nothing other than that they're changing the CCG to a LCG.
>>47026414
So should I hold off from trying it out then? I sort of figured I should probably hold off but I wasn't sure on if there's any information on if the old stuff carries over. I really have zero idea about the game but if I can try it out before then, and still get to use my stuff that'd be cool.
So, uh, general l5r thread too? Don't think there's been an l5r thread in a while
Me my girlfriend and my Mum and Dad love board games but I'm getting bored of the classics like scrabble, cluedo, scatergories etc. Anything that can be recommended to change things up? Something a bit original.
>>47026057
I highly recommend Ticket To Ride: Europe. It's the first thing that pops into my head when I think of new-age family board game.
>>47026057
We have a thread for this New Friend, look in the catalog for /bgg/
Cards Against Humanity if they're open to that kind of thing. There's even a UK edition (assuming you're British).
I had an idea for a setting, /tg/, and I'd like some help brainstorming. It's post-modern, with some serious scientific advancement. A large group of people went for (near) immortality by machine uploading as soon as it became available, while other people waited for medical technology to provide biological (again, near) immortality.
What I'm trying to figure out is if there'd be a good reason for these two groups to conflict, and what sort of society would develop when everyone's going to live foreve as long as they have the right parts and drugs?
>>47026032
Once we no longer have needs to fight over, war will truly be the domain of values.
>>47026032
>It's post-modern,
I suppose you mean either futuristic, or post scarcity. "Post-modern" means something different.
The problem with post scarcity setups is always creation of conflicts. The idea of post scarcity settings in general is that it provides such a distant and difficult to imagine scenario that making any kinds of speculations about the nature of such society is going to be wonky.
As for conflict between people awaiting digital immortality vs....

Well, as for conflict, I would point to religious or philosophical groups, as they'd most likely question the idea of if uploading yourself is the same as death, while biological immortality is more 'wholesome' or 'natural'
As for society itself, you'd be looking at very low birthrates, and general pushing towards utopia in general. As long as immortality is widely available enough, and since it's into the future where robots are doing most mundane labor, you'll probably...

So, in the unending quest to make elves that are different(!), I've been leaning more on the side of an elvish culture for my setting that has strong Germanic themes and focuses on urbanization, industrialization, imperialism, and castes in a pseudo-fascist society. It got me thinking, where do you do some cool historical research into how a society like that really happens if you want it's people to be somewhat rational and reasonable instead of just goofy nazis? How do you make a set of unique and interesting countries, societies, and cultures that seem interesting...

>Nazi Elves
One of the Pixiv Fantasia stories had this, complete with airships and stuff. I think.
>>47025878
Well, first, don't make them moustache-twirling supervillains. What i would do is focus more on "we're superior because we work hard", not "fuck subhumans". They would focus more on being economical superpower, industry, not army, being their national pride.
About national pride - focus on it. Focus hard. Make elves almost never say "I", always make them say "We" (or "our Glorious Leader). Elves' long lives actually could play an important role here...

I've encountered elves like that before...it was...interesting.
How can I explain the tau being in other parts of the galaxy aside from the galactic southeast?
>>47024936
How many tau are we talking? A handful? Scouting party investigating other parts of the galaxy by hitching a ride with one of their partner races (Even Kroot ships can use warp travel). One or two ships? Warp storm fuckery. An entire fleet? No good way to explain that.
>>47025085
I was hoping an entire fleet - enough to explain a fairly large military force that wouldn't just get snuffed out as soon as looked at.
>>47025101
The Tau won the Jericho Reach campaign and gained control of the warp gate.
>But Anon, it takes way too long to play!
What's that one board game you never got to play because no one would play it with you?
Does "any role-playing game" count?
>>47024709
If you had only played the original monopoly it wouldn't take as much time.
>>47024709
Just play Fortune Street instead, buddy.
Do you/ does your GM roll dice out in the open or hide it behind a screen or otherwise away from player view?
I usually do all of my rolls in secret, but want to hear what most players prefer considering my usual group is a bunch of apathetic knobjockies for this sort of thing.
Try to explain why you prefer one or the other, if possible.
>>47024676
I prefer GMs rolling behind a screen because I trust them to fudge the rolls only when it creates a better game, and I also prefer not being able to calculate the enemies' attack stats from the rolls.
I'm also a GM and have been doing most of my rolls behind a screen, but I've been experimenting rolling out in the open lately since I don't have a screen in my current game. I'm not sure yet, but I think I'll go back to rolling in secret.
>>47024676
Hiding your rolls from players just means that you don't trust them to not metagame or don't trust yourself to deal with whatever consequences a dice roll may bring.
I am a believer into live and let live when it comes to TT in both Roll and Role aspects of it, but it's a grand old waste of time to roll dice if you won't abide by them in my opinion. If you need something to happen because it's necessary for the plot, just have it happen. Unless your players are dice offisianados,...

As a DM, I prefer to hide my rolls because I find it to be a great way to build tension. Same thing with not telling the players the dc for something or if they necessarily succeed.
Post creatures that you would like to have as a companion.
Was Melkor really as much of a dick as the elves described him to be?

He was as much a pussy as he was a dick.

Well, he did sing discord into Illuvatar's chorus because it wasn't a feature length solo about his dreamy voice.
Said discord pretty much fucked up everything from then on out.
So yeah, Special Snowflake extraordinaire.

Are there any genres that use fantasy clothing in the context of a modern/futuristic setting?
Science fantasy.
Some post-apocalyptic ones use old-fashioned arms & armor.
>>47023644
I can think of couple settings. As for genres - I'm not sure if I understand the question right but Space Fantasy and Post-Apocalyptic should be what you're looking for.

Alright /tg/
What system could do Gundam Build Fighters?
There's always GURPS, but that's a given.
Considering how crazy and 'lethal' gunpla battles are, Anima might be a start, but the most up to date rules are in Spanish with no official translation in sight.

Any rpg ever with mechas and mecha fighting? You just pretend it is toys duking it out instead.

You will dread botching a spell as much as your character does, as you roll 4 checks and compare to a table of time v warping score to resolve how fucked you are. Also all the forms use the accusative case, as they should, except for corpus(should be corporem)
>Savage Worlds
Nice clean generic system, simple to learn and easy to hack.
I live 3.5, but I hate most of its classes, especially in the PhB. Fighers, Rogues, and Monks are fine as concepts, but poor as classes.
I hate 4e, but I love that they supported almost all their classes. Everything is Core should be a guiding principle for all games.

Introducing un-resisted "this just happens" things. Like Primal Fury.

It's a nice setting.
hey /tg/
what are some general references and webites you guys use to when it comes to making homebrew content? i am in the process of creating a cyberpunk/sci-fi campaign and im having some trouble thinking of good quests, items, and stuff like that
im using the pathfinder system and trust me,

I got no help to give ya anon.
Sounds like you got your work cut out for you. Good luck.
Never rely on "caring" to motivate your posting. If you put your stuff here and have enough of a hook help will find you.
>>47022731
Quests, items, consumables, weapons, 'tek' and other stuff is not really that much of problem... You just need to sort out the basics of your campaign, is it goodwill fagotry of startrek? Is it epic stagnant power fantasy with lazerz and waprz like Star Wars? Industrial hell of Alien franchise?
Have you ever rolled up a child character before, /tg/? If so, tell us about them.
My Half-orc Barbarian is 16 does that count?
>>47022590
Once the gamesmaster had the NPC raping my paladin that was a woman, and whereas no other man had happened to take her before she was "uh.....sire I am a virgin." So then she gave birth to Djeremy a boy playing same charachter transferred to another campaign. If gametime passes like realtime Djeremy is grown up now anyway.
(Does your own PC chara's live birth count as a child chara? The DM had me play him, didn't do much he was 2. )
>>47024297
Yes D&D standard fighter characters are legaly minors for a few years when they start out at 16.
Don't ignore the law, you will go to jail.
