Kill the owner of 3 silver coins
The fucker has thousands of gold coins in his pocket and has no idea what to do with them. He'd probably laugh at the guy offering him 3 silver coins, toss him 30, and walk away into the sunset, laughing.

My party found a magical map that had had the soul of a man sealed inside it many centuries ago. The power of his life force allowed it to act as a primitive GPS system, displaying the topography of the land and the approximate layout of towns and cities. When it wasn't working as a map it formed an animated pencil sketch of a man's face, and he was able to see, hear and speak like a person.
The party gave him to a little girl they rescued on times they didn't need them, and together they would...

What's the saddest love story you've seen during your tabletop career?
Had a Pygmalion story between my decker and the AI he was trying to create. He died and it was doubtful if the program ever reached sentience. That whole story was pretty sad.

My character had a Mosin Nagant that he loved like a child, he cleaned it every day, polished it every week, and spoke to it like it was a person. It was thrown in a fire. There were no survivors, enemy or otherwise.
I've always wanted to play tabletop games, and would love to set sessions up for my group of friends but I have no idea where to start, or even how to play anything. So If any of you can recommend a good game to start learning tabletop rpgs and how to get started with everything I'd be very greatful.
Do you have a group to play with? Sounds like you do.
Talk to them about what kind of game they want to play (at least genres) and then look for a game in that genre.
You can have a board game night too, but with actually good board games.
>>47152489
Any board games you could recommend? And as for genre we're all into fantasy/scifi so there's a lot to choose from.

Here you go.
So I'm going to run a campaign with my players as members of this defunct noble house who go to reclaim their birthright. The major feature of the game will be the "strategic layer", in which players can spend "Charter Points" (earned on missions or by exchanging a certain amount of GP) to improve their estate, and later, holdings. I've got a decent number of ideas for this, but I'm interested to see what people think of the concept and what kind of ideas you might have. Pic related is the first and second tier of the upgrade path, and you...

Bumping once again with castle waifu.
I actually really like the concept, but how are you going to deal with having multiple characters? It seems like most players want to have very disparate backgrounds, and are very hard to meld into one cohesive metaplot like this. Honestly, vanilla D&D is probably not the best setting for things like this, but I can't think of any better system.
I got into D&D almost a year ago. I enjoyed creating a character and adventuring but my DM was terrible, This guy watched too much anime so almost every reoccurring character was some 12 year old girl that was all powerful. His idea of humor was "oh your character is felt up by a gay dwarf" or "you wake up the wrong gender". I'm looking for a DM that doesn't do that.

Well OP, if nobody else shows up, you can ring me up on Skype and we'll try it. I don't have any DMing XP, but I guess I have to try it sometime.

why can't you D&D weirdos just play video games like normal nerds?
then you wouldn't have to keep moaning about how your playing partners are doing it wrong
Any advice for a first time dungeon master? Creating stories and enemies is so fun to me but I have trouble with map placement. How many encounters is too much in one forest for example? And is it too much to create some custom weapons for use in my campaign? Somethin like "Holy Sword Lombardia, one per day can restore health to all allies withing sight distance".
Any tips?
That is a ridiculously OP sword, like artifact-tier stuff. Stand on a high place, heal an entire army in battle.
>>47150610
>topography in the campaign area is incredibly flat
>literally no extreme hills or mountain ranges
>the evil armies of yonder filed down the landscape in attempt to prevent bearers of the blade to rejuvenate their holy hosts
>it became necessary to recruit smaller and smaller people into armies to try and rectify this
The question is not "how many encounters is too much in one forest". The forest can be Llanowar and cover a million square miles. The question is "how many encounters is too much in one DAY" and the answer depends on the edition you're running.

Alright, I'm confused as shit. I know D&D divides itself into different books, but which one shows basic stuff like cosmology and the 8 schools of magic and stuff like that? I guess the player handbook is the one that lists all the classes and their spells and abilities, but some of them seem to be like "Arcane, Divine and Martial Heroes". Does that mean they left some out or is that just the most up to date class listing?
What version are you looking for?
Player's handbook or the DM's handbook should have everything you want.
>>47149677
Well I have what says it's the 4th edition Player's Handbook (doesn't say this in the PDF so far as I can see, the file is just named that) and it doesn't say one word about the schools of magic. In fact it lists spells in weird categories like (Arcane, Nature).
>>47149663
>Players Handbook
Character creation and most if not all rules.
>Dungeon Masters Guide
Creating the campaign and any needed rules not in the PH
>Monster Manual
Stats for Monsters
Supplements have other stuff to add on top of this, such as more classes. But these three books are all you need.

What is your favorite resolution mechanic for dealing damage in combat /tg/?
>>47148113
Sorry OP. People round here respond better to threads with drawings of fake women with huge tits.
Body and Stun damage.
I really like both Legends of the Wulin and Exalted 3e's combat mechanics, especially when it comes to the damage dealing.
LotW has 'ripples' and 'rippling rolls'. Any successful attack causes at least 1 ripple. If you hit hard enough, you also cause a rippling roll, which can inflict conditions, like an injury or even a fated connection of some sort. The more ripples, the more likely and more intense the condition.
You even take a single rippling roll at the end of combat!
Exalted 3e I'm less familiar with the details, but essentially...
