I'm making a race that counts in base 7 but I'm having trouble with the worldbuilding for why that is. Is their a reason that a creature evolved to the point of being a sentient humanoid would be asymmetric as one would probably be to develop base 7? This race doesn't really belong to a homebrewed world yet so there is pretty much free reign on what the cause is.
>>48231801
Religious reasons maybe?
But really, having your "native" base be prime number is kind of bullshit. Unless you are a computer.
>>48231801
>I'm making a race that counts in base 7
>but I'm having trouble with the worldbuilding for why that is
So you thought "oh yeah having a different number system would be neat!" and didn't otherwise think of why that would develop in the first place?
>>48231801

Is there a reason they wouldn't?

OP's just meming. It doesn't really matter.
Making a magic weapon for 5e, it's intended to be the ancient fang of a supernatural creature, that still contains the residue of the creature's animus.
I want it to mechanically attack with Advantage, but is that "too strong" an attack bonus? What is it equivalent to vs a normal + to hit weapon?
Should I balance it with some effect where attacks against all other enemies in that fight are at Disadvantage while the initial target still lives?
>>48230659
Also, Ankules are neat.
>>48230659
>I want it to mechanically attack with Advantage, but is that "too strong" an attack bonus?
Yes, that is far too strong.
Just make it a +x weapon instead, maximum +3 if it's legendary tier. It doesn't sound like much, but that's a huge difference in 5e. Could also make it like flame tongue, simply adding 2d6 damage with no tohit bonus at all.
>>48230853
I've heard it said that Advantage is +5, but also that it's the equivalent of +3.25.
If it's the latter, I don't see it as being overpowered lacking any other bonuses to hit.

You're going to have to get over that anxiety if you want to play a social game.

Do society a favor and stick to Vidya Gaems.
Primarily asking people who liked 5e but thought it could have been better.
I'm brewing up a modification for 5e. I'd like to know what sort of thing people would like from an alternate version of 5e.
Right now what it's looking like is a version of 5e that's more heavily influenced by 20th-century D&D. I wouldn't quite call it OSR, but it's still clearly slanted towards TSR-style D&D rather than WotC D&D. There are fewer classes, with some classes have been turned into archetypes; e.g. the Paladin is now an archetype of...

Another change:
Material components can now work in one of two ways. Either the component is sacrificed at preparation, or it is sacrificed at casting. This means that for some material components, you only need one piece, but for others, you need one piece for every time you want to cast the spell. This is to make it to make the system a little bit more like classic Vancian casting without sacrificing the simplicity of the Wizardry/Final Fantasy 1 system of spell charges that 5e uses.

1a. Add tons of new feats.
1b. give martials access to feats as part of character progression separate from the current rule of sacrificing ASIs to get feats.
1c. Don't give casters access to free feats.
2a. Everyone always rolls at least 2d20 for any action. Both rolls benefit from modifiers.
2b. On a roll without advantage of disadvantage, one die is predetermined to be the success/failure roll, and the other die is predetermined to be the side effects/consequences roll. With advantage, the...

Rework the skills into a background system such as used in 13th age. It feels like a much more natural ways to do things imho.
Have you ever had a character take a vow of pacifism during a game?
What motivated them to do it?
How did it work out?
Nope. That would be sort of dumb in most types of game we play.

>How does mana turn into spells?

>Is there a reason why people would not use magic for mundane applications?
Before, one of my pet peeves was that magic doesn't affect society at large. Now I am unsure about that. I got into a long winded discussion about the subject, along with the subject of mana and magic in general.
I was told that, magic is a protected thing and a magic users are reluctant to help people for several reasons. One would be that...

>Is there a reason why people would not use magic for mundane applications?
Depends on the fucking setting, but generally speaking the mana needed for magic comes from somewhere and draining it away for some useless bullshit isn't very practical
>>4822817
You see, I wasn't looking for setting-specific shite. I was searching for the first idea the people get when they think about this. Like, if a setting EXPLAINS this then ok, but USUALLY there is next to no explanation for these building blocks of magic.

>>How does mana turn into spells?

Because people hate magic, it's difficult to scale up, magic users are insane, they did but everyone who knew how to do that died, antiwizards destroy any attempt to do so, et c.
I bought this just to get a feel for the game. I have never played it, but have observed it once or twice. What will my next step be? Replace all these cards altogether? Replace them gradually? With what? How?
Any tips are welcome.

>>48227857
I have slightly and I think modern is the most attractive format right now. Keeping up with standard isn't something I'm likely to do.
Depends how far down the rabbit hole you wanna go.
If you just want to try it out, just buy some preconstructed decks, or a bulk lot & play with some friends.
If you want to get gud, start by drafting, make friends with the people who win. Learn from them.
The next set has a prerelease this weekend, I recommend going to it, it's usually pretty newbie friendly.

Hello guys, I am in the middle of creating a sci fi setting that could be used for future sci-fi games. But I come to a grinding halt when it comes to fleshing the setting out. Here is what I got so far.
First off is the alien species. I'll list the major ones listed in the map
>Light Blue: The Human Empire
Your standard humans in a sci fi setting, could use some help in order to make them unique/interesting
>Red: The Vrobrak Coalition of Stars
Vrobaks a race of fast breeding and resource...

The Ukmelh Dynasty is not to be confused with the name of their race, but that is the name of the family that rule the empire at the moment. As a species thay call themselves Travlanok, and they are a race of long limbed bipeds that hail from the jungle planet Ke'Otom They have a very large empire but it is not well enforced or protected so many minor Dynasties...

Selfbumpin'
What kind of atmosphere are you going for with this setting? Space western, constant war, political intrigue?
/tg/ what's your favorite idea?
(world-building/world-lore thread)
>>48227092
No elves, orcs, or dwarves isn't a creative idea, /tg/! It's just as bland as having them.
>>48227130
I included orcs, dwarves, and elves as 'dead' races. The new world was built on top of theirs and crushed it down into the endless expanse that creation sits on top of.
They recently started popping back up again as shades and have been causing trouble in some remote corners of the world. No one really knows what their endgame is, just that they like to harp on about their warlord when they aren't killing the shit out of their surroundings.
An idea I had for God.
God can, and will die eventually from old age, and when that happens he let's the highest of the clergy know and then they start gathering people who are the purest of any one thing. For instance, the most pious or vengeful man alive.
This ends up being like electing a new pope, but crazier. All across the world people are defending these people who are or claim to be the world's most X man.
In the end God will choose from one of them who is still alive and ascend them to Godhood.
When this happens, they are welcome...

Are there any good lore videos for exalted, or other materials I can hand my players so they get the gist of the setting?
Also, is Titan an official name for the primordials, or just a fan nickname?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_A8yY_iyYk
That's the original "Making of Exalted" video that came out with First Edition. It's not terrible.
Titan is more like a slang name for Primordials.
>>48227334
thank you!
Also, are there any 2e to 3e conversions for the other exalts? one of my players wants to be a lunar pretty badly
>>48227504
Irked did/is doing a Lunar rewrite for 3e. It looks like it's basically complete from a quick skim, though I didn't really read through it since it's not relevant to me, so it could be dogshit for all I know. (Irked seems cool from other stuff he's written so I assume it's not.)

>Is millenium blades worth 70 pounds /tg/?
I think so. There's a lot of gameplay in that box.
>>48226613
theres no solo mode...yet i think?
but ask yourself this
"do I like nerd pop culture references"
if NO, then you probably should stick to a more serious deck building game.
also this game requires a lot of timing so be careful. Like each phase is 7 to 8 minutes or something. and keeping track of the card packs is a little cumbersome. took me like 30-40 minutes to clean up since the card store was full of friggin cards from 10 or so sets
>>48226652
Are the battle phases timed too?
Tell me /tg/, what do you think of Space Dwarves?
>>48226591
I don't DISLIKE them, but I also don't see the need for them. They're a relic that never may the transition, and don't really have a place in the40Ksetting today that isn't occupied by another faction, at least in a way that would merit their own special faction.
>>48226776
You implying that they can't make a place for them. It's quite easy, /tg/ had a thread a while back doing so.
>>48226591
their helmets make them look tiny angry elephants to me.
thinking about it, a race of tiny angry elephants could replace the dorfs nicely.
