What does the Big Mek say?

Let's discuss the options Byzantium offers as a campaign setting, or an inspiration for one.
Some topics to get the ball rolling
>Most interesting period: Justinian, rise of Islam, Alexiad, Fourth Crusade or the fall of Constantinople?
>What kind of campaign, military or just a bunch of murderhobos wandering around?
>Unique options/buildings that a Western medieval setting does not offer?
>Orthodox, Monophysite, Miaphysite, Coptic... what's...

>Orthodox, Monophysite, Miaphysite, Coptic
Orthodox and Coptic are churches, Monophysite and Miaphysite are Christological stances, Coptic is a Miaphysite (believing that Christ has one nature that is both divine and man), Orthodox (as well as most churches) is diaphysite, believing that Christ has two natures, one divine and one man. Basically, they're really nitpicky differences in religion

>Alexiad
>military murderhobos
>prevalence of Hellenistic architecture over Romanesque or Gothirc
>Orthodox is one true faith, non-Niceans go home
>Lamellar is fucking cool
>Venice: Sometimes your bro, can't stop screwing about and doing their own thing
I think the issue is that I, as a random anon, don't know much about Byzanthium other than the following facts:
It was a great big empire that lasted for a thousand years, or so
Some issues with the Sassanids, then the rise of Islam, then the muslims, then... Constantinople was sacked? Sometime?
There was a Plague of Justinian, which screwed over the attempts at Western Reconqust and probably destabilized the tax infrastructure and the smaller towns to make it harder to resist the rise of Islam.
541 is a hilariously awful year, with the plague,...

Art of noblewomen.
Go.
Carnage reigns supreme at Yamaku as every living thing tears each other to shreds beneath the banner of Rei of Asuka. Everyone is mauling each other with bottles, bricks, bats, hammers, duct tape, razor wire, bazookas, chariots, vacuum cleaners, crowbars, grenades, halberds, longbows, corckscrews, lightsabers, and slinkies. Even the squirrels are trying to strangle each other.
Outside Lilly’s classroom, however, the bloodlust is at a level beyond that. Akira’s madness saturates the air like a fog, filling your minds with the desire to slaughter, burn, and marathon the...

What is it that makes orc women the most desirable in all the lands? Is it their uncommonly tall height? Their strong, yet feminine, faces? Their skin, which can be every shade of life-giving green? Their dainty tusks?

Man, this map is so wonky.
In certain ways I don't mind that, and I understand there are probably good gameplay reasons. But still.
Also, wasn't Mousillion supposed to be a separate faction? Or is it just that southern portion of Lyonesse?
>>47367583
Yeah, Mousillon is its own faction. It's the only Vampire faction outside of Sylvania.

Anybody know if Bretonnia is a playable faction?
By the emperor, the galaxy is as violent as ever
we must show the foul xenos and heretics we still have a monopoly on violence

What up fa/tg/uys! Let's open some CCG sealed product.
Today I have a Russian booster box of Oath of the Gatewatch and a bunch of stuff from the 1990s game Middle Earth, based on the LoTR universe.
Will we get anything good? Probably not, but it will still be fun!
From Middle Earth, all the small black boxes and the loose boosters are from the first set: The Wizards. It's generally the most useful set when constructing decks. The set is based on the five wizards trying to defeat sauron.
The brown box is the first expansion: the Dragons. This set adds dragons and their treasure to the game.
The white box is a later set: the White Hand. It introduces a new playable faction of fallen wizards that have given up on defeating sauron.
I'm still learning the game, so I don't know a lot about the rules yet....

do it
But I know that most of you probably don't care about dead CCGs! So let's start with magic!
We will probably open some magic for awhile, then jump around to open some other stuff. Also have some star trek cage boosters, maybe we will grab a few of them too!
I'm super excited to open this, box though! I've never bought a full box of a foreign set before
They just don't stop

Does anyone play this? Its Mantic's 40k nonclone.
Silly boy, it's Mantic's Necromunda clone. Only a clone that bears little in common with Necromunda other than the scale and army size, oh and keeping Necromunda's "explore your territory" stuff in campaigns.
Oh and yes some people do play it. Which is a good trick seeing as it's not actually released (in 2nd edition) till next week or so.

sorry to hear that anon
Have you ever been personally responsible for getting someone into tabletop that otherwise would have never gone near it?
Nah, and you'll probably find nobody ever has.
People get into hobbies because of innate or acquired proclivities, which are usually developmental in nature.
Storytelling and boardgaming habits help, nobody without a fair bit of whimsy will even give it the time of day though.
And if somebody plays with you just because you're there then they're into you, not the hobby.
Nearly everyone in my current group would have never played were it not for me.
>>47433364
They must have been amenable to the idea in the first place or they would never have tried it.
