I'm just about to start playing in a Rifts Phase World campaign, but honestly I've not really heard much about the system and setting outside of the rulebooks. I'd be interested to hear /tg/'s opinions and experiences.
Also, Rifts general I guess
I like the Phase World Setting. Its got everything you'd ever need in a Space Opera, and there are no preconceived notions or canon adventures for other media to have to work around.
The system is pretty bad, being cobbled together from AD&D house rules for multiple genres and then smashed together with no real revisions since the 80s. Hopefully the Savage Worlds version will be more playable.
>>47894682
One of my problems with the system so far is that it does seem to be a bit of a mess. The complete skills PDF that the GM gave is is nearly 100 pages long for fuck's sake
>>47894608
Rifts is batshit fucking insane. Currently in a roll20 campaign
Does anyone seriously have a problem with the idea of female space marines? It seems like a"muh lore" reaction over anything else, and nobody really fights for the original Rogue Trader fluff these days anyway. My main problem with them is people's kitbashes tend to look fucking awful, and artistic depictions tend to look too pretty.
>>47922412
my only problem with them is that theyd be sterile
>>47922421
HA! good one Hernandez
>>47922412
>artistic depictions tend to look too pretty
So what do you want them to look like? Take away the femininity and you essentially get regular superhuman Space Marines. Do you want it to just be a little sidebar that says 'oh btw women can be marines too'?
I'm DMing a 3.5e game with some new people. My group's bard says that he can summon a maximum of 96 fiendish spiders per day as a max level summoner. Is he correct? Isn't there something in the game to stop that stupid bullshit from happening? I'm looking at the SRD and I haven't found a summoning limit and I feel like a retard.
>>47921673
Well, you could have someone stand next to his character that slaps him for 6 seconds straight as he casts it.
Also, im pretty sure the second time you summon that many fiendish spiders, Lolth will send someone to fix whatever loophole he is using.
>>47921673
> Isn't there something in the game to stop that stupid bullshit from happening?
1. Have you tried playing something besides 3.5/Pathfinder?
2.You are the GM, grow some balls, Rule 0 in full effects, GM's word is law.
3. Have you tried playing something besides 3.5/Pathfinder? No, seriously. 5e is lightyears better than 3.5.
4.Have you tried playing something besides 3.5/Pathfinder? No seriously, there are a million other systems out there that...

Merfolk should be able to take a feat to gain a tail slap attack.
I want to use all of the homebrew races in our pastebin. But I never will.
>>47919544
Merfolk need their own PF variant. Oh wait that exists.
I am a huge fan of underwater campaigns. It kills the need for flight as a prerequisite to being a good character. It can have cool monsters. Your races can do cool things. Lots of chances to do something new.
How would you play off a evil (or even good) powerful NPC that constantly tracks the party without making it neither boring or repetitive and also more "natural" if it makes sense.
I was thinking of maybe a Nemesis type of presuer but in a more golem form that will relentlessly track down the party and kill/capture them.
Anyone have any other good ideas on how to play it off?

Yea but thats more focused against evil or law breaking characters. Plus the presuer i was thinking of using was created by the BBEG to hunt down a group of goody two shoe Players.

How do I make horror-type monsters that are scary to my players who can't die, can't have anything important to them die, and can't be driven insane?*
*For narrative reasons
>>47909893
The reason things are scary is because they trigger a survival instinct.
If it's impossible for anything negative to happen I can't imagine your game would be very scary
>>47909893
if there's nothing at stake, why would they be scared?

Quite a simple question, but we don't really have an answer for it. What do you think?
>>47904324
He was, until he was written extremely poorly by several different authors in several different contradicting ways.
>>47904333
Well I think that's a big part of 40k lore in general, the contradictions. Just about every historical figure has that shroud of contradictions.Did Hitler have only one testicle? Did Gandhi forsake medicine for his own wife, causing her to die, but used it himself? It kinda makes a universe bigger when it's treated more or less like real history.
I haven't been able to read much of the Horus Hersey shit and all that new lore, so I can't really say that the Emperor was written this way or not,...

Is it just me or is Wizards purposefully and forcefully making Sorin look bad so they can kill him off? His portrayal in Stone and Blood is pretty inconsistent with his established character.

"Games aren't sports, dad, they aren't meant to always be won. They are meant to have fun."
"When you start playing the games competitively, it no longer is a game. At that point, it becomes a sport."
"The victory condition of a game is having fun together with your friends. If you play a game and have fun playing it, you've already won."

"So what you're saying, you and yer mates are a bunch of fags? God dammit billy, I knew that little league with their damn participation trophy would make ya a pussy."

So Overwatch has finally persuaded me to run a superhero campaign (which will be in style of the game).
Thing is, I have no clue what the characters will do beyond "missions in which they fight the bad guys". How do I get some roleplaying situations in there?
Any tips or ideas for superhero campaigns?

What kind of power levels are you looking at?
Settingwise, what are you thinking?
>>47892551
I was thinking a little bit more powerful than street level, but nowhere near four-colour. Definitely able to geek a few mooks singlehandedly, but not "take-over-the-world" poewrful. Think Spiderman.
I was going to use the game's settting, with the Omnic Crisis and everything. Basically robot invaders everywhere, and a couple unrelated missions here and there.
>>47892616
I'd suggest taking a look at some cape storylines. How expansive do you want them to be?
Have you seen the animated shorts?
Off the grid edition.

Building them with points seems very time consuming.
