What is the most minimalist, yet coherent system you've ever actually played?
Bliss Stage. On paper, it looks like it should fall apart horribly. In practice, it just works.
>>48289274
I don't know about the most minimalist overall, but Barbarians of Lemuria wins as far as full-length systems--and not some two-page cram sheet--are concerned.
Dogs in the Vineyard. If you have the official character sheet, NPC sheet, and town sheet you can almost play it right off the sheets themselves. I've played 6-hour games where the book never got referenced once.
How do you make forest generation as interesting as dungeon generation?
Random encounters from all other biomes.
Ah ah AH AH ah
Apart from many "rooms" lacking walls and ceiling, it'd appear to be much the same.
What system would be best for running a game in the Knights of Sidonia setting?
Bonus question: What about Blame?
Don't bother saying Gurps.
>>48287651
FATE, it's easy to use in any setting and works best with generally competent characters.

How does the Homestuck drawback in SBURB work if you also take the Void Session or Single Player Dead Session drawback?

Since it didn't take off last thread! Another go!
Dragon's Crown gives you lots of gold right?
Why aren't slings more common in fantasy RPGs?
They seem infinitely more practical for an adventurer than something like a longbow. Fits in a pouch, high accuracy, can be quite quite deadly.
>>48302880
probably because they're fairly boring weapons, at least visually, when compared to bows, crossbows, etc
>>48302880
When i started playing as a newb my DM taught us the importance of a ranged weapon. so i always have a sling on me. i also always have a backup weapon.
>>48302880
Because slings weren't used in Tolkien. Also, because even though they were deadly weapons, most games make them shit only used by wizards.
Why do medieval fantasy games have such a strong aversion towards blackpowder weapons?
Blackpowder weapons like cannons and early handgonnes were in use for centuries in medieval warfare. Cannons and early hand cannons in battle predates the use of plate armor.
So why the h8

>for centuries
That image you got there isn't from the Middle Ages, and guns really only became big at the very tail end of the period.
Medieval guns were more likely to be arrow launching engines and incedary tools rather than true guns. Though frankly, in a world where dragons exist, those arrow launching engines would be shit popular simply because they're the most mobile sort of ballista imaginable and you really need something you can carry and set up anywhere...

I personally like the aversion from black powder weapons. I won't say no to pirates with bombs though
>>48294059
Tolkien didn't have them in LotR, and that's like the single biggest source of medieval fantasy tropes
Should a god of winter be neutral or evil?
>>48291736
Sure.
>>48291736
In moderate climates: evil. Winter is seen as something threatening, that you have to prepare for the rest of the year to survive. It changes your modus vivendi and makes it harder to just get through the day.
In cold climates: neutral. Winter is the normal, the people are used to it and know that they are strong and capable of survival because of it.
>>48291736
Alternatively, I would say good. Without winter there can be no spring, there is no rebirth. Rebirth is a huge part of the mythological cycle.
Without knowing anything about your pantheon, I could see the god of winter and spring/summer working together to keep the world fresh or the inhale/exhale of nature.
But it kind of depends on the rest of the pantheon.

The first week SOI was modern legal I made a dredge deck with Prized Amalgam and people called it a shit meme deck. But every time I play it at FNM, I go 4-0/3-1 with it.
The overall and paper Modern Metagame.
(1 month old). While it is an outdated picture, there is apparentely a rise in linear stragies according to the stats guy behind the spreadsheet.

I have been playing Bant Eldrazi for a month and that deck is very powerful: several topdecks are extremely effecient stabilizers or simply wincons. The deck has game against pretty much everything and its matchups are actually fun.

GURPS for beginners edition!
Previous Edition >>48111483
>>48216006
>>48211360
GURPS lite should include a few more things, and should be the core book for the system.
The other stuff in gurps basic set that doesn't get added into lite should be in separate booklets grouped by category.
Finally, gurps seriously needs something like d20pfsrd or dndtools so it's not such s pain in the ass to find three option your looking for.
>>48216023
I like the way it is now with the core book being able to cover a huge number of things.
I know you can't take "Negated disadvantages" normally but what if a situation forces them on you?
If i have acute hearing and hard of hearing (such as from wearing a helmet) do both apply?
D&D 3.5 General Kukri are Broken edition
>Which is better: Crusader, Warblade, or Swordsage?
>>48298424
The crusader's randomness makes it automatically worse than warblade and swordsage. Warblade has a better base attack bonus than swordsage and has access to Iron Heart, but I'm not sure which is best.
I just know that I like swordsage best for flavour purposes. It's everything I've ever wanted out of a scholarly swordsman archetype.
>>48298470
I personally like Warblade the most. Tiger Claw is one of my favorite disciplines, and I very much so like the way warblades refresh maneuvers. Much better than swordsage. Granted, the Adaptive Style feat makes up for it in their case.
>>48298424
Crusader is the best, Swordsage is in the middle, and the Warblade is the worst. Not that it particularly matters because all three of them are extremely good classes that are close to each other in power.
Help me name my new sword I just got in D&D guys. Its ebony black and was forged from a magic gem. I'm a sorcerer btw.

I've always wanted to try and run a game that features time travel or alternate timelines. I eat that shit up in books, movies and tv. The only problem is that I can never seem to figure out a way to get it right. It always feels way too obvious and unoriginal.
Time travel doesn't work to well in RPGs.
If you're actually going into your past, players are going to change the past. This leads into paradoxes, otherwise known as plot holes, when the past isn't consistent with the future the PCs came from.
I've had a GM who avoided that by having us jump into alternative timelines. But we were left feeling that it didn't matter what did, because we kept leaving one timeline to jump into one where we hadn't done anything.
>>48282437
Make time travel required by the threat. The timeline keeps that best of everthing, but people can remember the other stuff, too. Some people don't have good memories, or think about it or connect the weirdness. Like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask; that's how they new you were the hero of time. Time travel in play is a boring overly long skit. Give them something else to focus on and make them glad they can time travel because of the overwhelming nature of the threat, like Link vs. the falling moon...

I've been playing in a game going on 80 sessions [each session 6ish hours online] based entirely on time travel. AMA.

I think Linowans are super dark skinned Native American types, far Northeasterners tend to be either very pale or nut-brown, with black, brown, or occasionally green hair, depending on nationality and/or your group's tolerance for weird hair colors.

Well the charm cost is [5m 2i]. Using the Excellency as a basis the -1 Defense is worth around 1-2m, given its situational nature. The instant movement feels more like something that would cost initiative than motes, but a small mote cost (1m) wouldn't be inappropriate. That leaves the penalty negation costing only 2-3m, which is potentially very cheap if you are heavily injured and in heavy armour.
As you are intending the evocation to be usable on either a rush or disengage...

What is your opinion on the following rule interpretation:
An Ambition 2 Terrestrial Working can give a mortal character introduction into Sorcery / a Shaping Ritual.
So far my reading goes, there is just no actual requirement for a shaping ritual. Exalts need the Charm, but never is anything told about Mortals AFAIR
Humans run every which way, carrying papers and digital devices in their arms. Your drone walks through the chaos with a steady stride as it enters the war room on Odin station. It is filled with screens showing various Union news stations, local intelligence reports, and numerous astrographic data of the region. Most of the news feeds are either lifeless, or are showing some obvious filler story involving local politics or a rerun of the previous few hours of coverage. A select few, the ones not muted, show various buildings belonging to the Union BFI as agents rush in and...
