Hey there /tg/. I've been playing CoC, Shadowrun, Dark Heresy, nWoD and Eclipse Phase for the past 3 years or so now, and I'm thinking about finally actually getting into D&D. Problem is, I don't know which edition to start investing in. 5e is the newest but I've heard it isn't as well made as the older editions, but I don't want to get into an edition that is so old that no one really plays it. Is 4e too limited like the owner of my local FLGS told me? What is pathfinder and 3.5e? Which should I choose?
>>44063555
4e's only sin was that it was different. It has no rules for roleplaying, because that shit should be logical and decided by the DM and the group. It does, however, have the most balanced combat that gives everyone a role and makes them good at it. You never have problems of the Wizard solving every encounter with a third level spell.
5e is new, and is at the very beginning of its production cycle. I like what I see so far, and some classes massive power in 3.x and earlier editions have been divided among...

4e isn't that limited provided you have a good gm and the adventures aren't shit tier.
I'd recommend 5e though as it's the same basic chassis as 3.5 and pathfinder except strictly superior and more well designed. 3.5 and pathfinder are in many ways much more limited than 4e when it comes to how improv and the feat system interact.
The starter set for 5e is also a pretty damn fine adventure.
>>44063555
If your players enjoy tactical combat and deep character building, 4e. You can basically have all the material for PCs you could ever want through the offline builder, and has some of the best DM tools.
If you just want to get into the game as fast as possible, and just roll some dice at monsters, 5e.
Tell me a bedtime story /tg/.
There once was an ugly fa/tg/uy.
He was sooooooooo ugly everyone died.
The end.
One time people on this board made threads about things they liked, and other people posted in the threads and helped them make those things better.
Then those people started making threads about how nobody makes quality threads anymore, and other people posted in the threads to troll the OPs.
The end.

I'm running a DnD 3.5 homebrew game, and I want a magic item of some kind that will really fuck with my players. No limits, except one rule.
Nothing lethal, unless it's fair.

"Lucy?" Kandence hisses, tapping on the side of my tank, waking me up with all the ripples and shaking she's making and putting into me "Are you awake, please be awake...please?"
I groan, forming my arms and head as I can peek over the edge of my bed to see what my roommate once.
"Whats wrong, why'd you have to wake me up, I mean it better be good" I yawn, as I struggle to stop myself from melting back into...

"She didn't say anything" Baba whimpers, looking like a cat that just got splashed with a bucket of ice bucket
"It's fine, just keep it down in the future okay?" Kandence says sweetly as I continue to stare flatly at Baba, still half asleep.
I giggle at how uncomfortable it's making her, making her huff and cross her arms, standing up looking quite cross.
"And don't you have better things to do Lucy?" She asks, smiling widely again.

How do I fluff and write powers for a group of zombie demigods, whose themes are grotesque body horror and surgical replacement, WITHOUT making them come off as pure distilled Magical Realm?
On one hand, they have an entire martial art dedicated to projectile vomiting on enemies, and "turn yourself into a hive of super-powered locusts who give people a disease that makes you shit our your liquified organs" is a thing they can do. On the other hand, they can appeal to practically every Magical Realm fetish in existence with enough surgery and body-warping.

You aren't fooling anyone here OP. Give up and accept your sick and twisted fetish for what it is.
Embrace the horrific sexual undertones. It worked for H R Gieger's aliens. It worked for the Cenobites. It worked for Cronenberg's stuff.
I remember a line from one of his films, something like "A virus is just something alien and inhuman trying to express love for you". Play up the association between sex and disease.
Also, this video will show you the proper way to weaponize...

I'm not just talking about my own fetishes here. These guys and gals can do it all.
Monstergirls/Boys? They can replace their own body parts completely with inhuman/monstrous parts, and swap out at will.
Vore? These guys have the explicit ability to regenerate flesh by eating people, and can often modify their stomachs to hold entire people alive.
Pregnancy? Many of them create twisted...

you FOOLS! you've sealed your fates!
You wake in the morning, face and hand sore despite the healing brought on by the raw flesh consumed after last night's combat. Emma lies curled at your side, snoring loudly. Djanna has already left the hut, presumably to rejoin Baltas and her mother on the deck of Malir's ship. You rise slowly so as not to wake the slumbering kitsune, wincing as you put pressure on your hand. The wounds had mostly sealed, but perhaps it was something more making it ache. Perhaps guilt? You flatten your ears, banishing such thoughts from your mind as you make your way out of the hut...

What's your fighter's backstory?
18 is not far off from my character's actual backstory.
Used to be a high-level fighter.
Spent the last 30 years running a tavern.
Now he's level 1 again because he forgot how to be a high-level fighter.

I've fucked up /tg/.
I've designed a rather simple style of TTRPG where you control fleets of ships and colonize worlds in a sort of post-galactic war setting, d100 combat, etc etc.
Instead of levels or some-such, there's research for new gear, tech, and ships. And it's gotten out of hand.
Right now, mechanically speaking, the players are way more advanced than just "bump up the numbers" style of difficulty increases. They have weapons that ignore shields, shields that make conventional energy weapons useless, and fighters that...

You've already thrown the Deathstar at them?
Any Star Trek plot built around a "subspace anomaly".
>>44063037
I've given them the "Junkstar".
Basically make a sapient Space Hulk, tack a slightly stupid AI on it with one directive. Gather more junk.
And then make every major faction in the galaxy drop ships and troops on its location to preserve military secrets and tech (which are a big deal in this setting.) The players have so far wiped every fleet sent at it without actually boarding it.

Subspace is actually a mechanic...

So a friend of mine has played D&D once before and excitedly called me to say she found Character Sheets for the Sailor Scouts adapted into D&D. She wanted to know if I could help her set up the scenarios and give her tips to DM.
After clearing the vomit from my mouth I told her if she doesn't have a strong system mastery of D&D then she should use a different system that actually is made for this.
So what system is the best for a magical girl campaign? I've heard of magical burst but know nothing about it.
Pic related it's her

Story Thus Far: http://pastebin.com/H0fsiX5w
Slithering through the gateway, you move with purpose in hopes of finding Veles. Passing through the rookery, you suffer Daisy's attention, letting the young hawk down on her roost as you exit. Heading down through the tunnels, you find the old lamia in the main antechamber. Arm still in his improvised sling, Veles looks up from the deer that he's awkwardly butchering. You see him wince as he reflexively tries to grab one of the animals legs to gets better access with the small but wicked looking dagger in his hand. Instead the snake opts to crook the hind leg between neck and shoulder, cutting more by feel than by sight as he attempt to skin the animal.
You cough politely and the giant snake promptly disengages himself with the animal, dipping a bloody hand in a container of water.
<Apologies Sasha.> He starts, <The claws of our kind take some time to regrow, and I am loathe try and swallow this whole. Antlers aside, fur never was that palatable.>
<No apologies needed. Is that giving you trouble?>
<Better part of a century since I've lost a claw. Longer still since one wasn't a clean break. Just forgotten how much of a bother it was.> He responds dismissively.

>Medieval knights in a nuclear bunker
What would happen?
>>44062776
You would have a bunch of fascinated knights
While they're in the bunker? Buttsecks.
They'd just be highly trained melee combatant in a nuclear bunker. Likely they'd be confused by the modern technology starting out, but get used to it within a few weeks. Many of them if they are landed knights will not be used to such small living spaces and not having servants/squires/other workers. Fights would likely break out between them once food began running short.
I'd see it imploding within a year, or within a month of beginning rationing, which ever came first.
Where is the good loot on this map /tg/?
Africa, it's also a PvP hotzone though.
>>44062623
Greenland, probably, where the ancient civilisation lies buried under snow.
Also probably Mongolia, deserts always have loads of loot and shit.
>>44062623
I'd say Europe, since they took all the good loot from the rest of the world and hoarded it.
