So my players recently went up against the BBEG, and ended up getting their asses handed to them. They were mad. I felt good about it.
Do any of you guys have fun examples of the BBEG winning?
This time I blame the PCs for not actually trying to find out the BBEG's abilities, and simply assuming that if they could make it to him that they would win.
>"Alright guys, the boss dude steps out with his entourage of shield guys and a pair of cross-"
>We attack the leader
>Are you sure? He's not-
>We ATTACK
And that's how they wasted their best skills right at the start, at least in my case.
>>44365201
Our playgroup isn't a big fan of DM vs player conflict, so the BBEG doesn't tend to win in the end.
I guess different people enjoy different things, though.
>Players arrive at the end of the chapter of the campaign.
>They are fighting the female leader of an evil Cult.
>They do this after a whole dungeon of tough enemies.
>They blast her with their best abilities to burn her down quickly.
>She dies.
>They're cheering and searching the room.
>All the sudden the statue of her god starts rusting and molding over,...

Well Night Lords ARE pretty white...
Wonder how the chocoelf in the squad got past them. Then again, her CHA is off the scale.
How do you feel about using accents for in character talking? Have you ever done it? Is it annoying, or make it hard to take a character seriously?
I have a decker in Shadowrun that sounds like bad impression of Jackie Chan, and it's fun, but I'm seriously considering dropping the accent just because I have trouble taking my own character seriously.
It's one step removed from LARPing, which means it's two steps too far.
I only use one accent, and that's Nazi.

Fans are CN bordering on CE, they enjoy hurting people but are at least conscientious enough to focus on scumbags, most of the time
Beard is TN, for him it was all just a bad job that he quit
Pardo is either NE or CE, he kills people for attention
Jake is LG, helping to free the United States from the Russian menace
Richter is TN, everything he does he was coerced into doing
The Henchman and The Son are both basically NE
Evan is NG or LG

Roll20 thread.
I'll start the conversation:
How should GMs vet players who want to join their game?
How should players vet a GM/game that they want to join?
>>44364819
>How should GMs vet players who want to join their game?
- Ask for a character concept and their past RPG experience. Nothing too complex, nice and short.
- Toss out people that go on for more than a few paragraphs, blatant That Guys, people who clearly didn't read the campaign pitch/setting info, people with poor character concepts
>How should players vet a GM/game that they want to join?
- Some setting and background info available...

Fuck Roll20
how do you even play in roll20? purely text? do you hang out on skype with strangers and roll actual dice on your own, separated from the rest?
is there a built-in voice/video chat?
You just finished a great service to the kingdom, and the king has offered you one of these additional rewards as a bonus!
-A street will be named after you
-A week-long festival and tournament will be held in your honor
-A special commemorative silver piece will be issued and distributed with your likeness
- A pardon will be granted to one criminal of your choice for his past crimes
-A marble statue of you will be placed in the royal garden
-A play telling the story of your adventure will be written and performed
-A donation of 1,000 gold will be made...

...so er, is this instead of or in addition to the actual reward?
Health potions, expeditionary supplies, combat supplies, hirelings and arcane reagents aren't cheap. I'm not a charity.
I'll take the tourney. I'm fucking at least getting fed and a free show for that hassle. Can't do shit with a marble status but I sure as hell can eat a big free pie and laugh at a dude falling off of a horse.
>-The royal chef will create and name a pie after you
Fuck yeah. I want it to be extra delicious and contain potatoes and fish.
>>44363639
>-A special commemorative silver piece will be issued and distributed with your likeness
I don't want commemorative. I want to be on the fifty cent piece.
Orks and Guard are the shittiest factions in WH40K and exist solely to show how badass villain of the week/hero is because he wasted X orks/guardsmen per minute. Why are they even playable? Just mention them in the fluff no one wants to play cannon fodder.
guard: if you're playing straight up guard with 100% infantry you might as well kill yourself.
otherwise they have the best vehicles, mechanized army, tanks, artillery, etc.
aka, an actual army. you play IG if you're a WARgame fan, and want to play something involving a lot of strategy and real life tactics (or something).
they're the most grounded faction anyway, compared to super space robots in space or space soldiers wearing super space robot armor in space and using magical space robots and demons.
orks: okay I'm not going to spend too...

exactly
a whole race serving as a fucking comic relief
who would like to play a walking gag?
>>44362799
The only people who don't realize Orks are just taking the piss are mongoloids
Guard are for people who don't want to fight as Captain Faggius the Honorable of the Sixth Company of the Death Skulls Chapter.
I get that Space Marines are the cash cows of the franchise but they really are the reason why the setting is so fucking boring. Everyone else has to job to them just to bang is over the head how they're so much more heroic than the common man.
Have you ever been in a situation in which you willingly entered combat against another PC?

There was a WoD game where somehow the party ended up divided between who they wanted to give a certain important person to, and it ended up with me taking a potshot at another party member... And they then proceeded to fill me with automatic weapon fire and kill me. Fair enough, I think.
>>44362176
>>44362462
what's with WoD that makes players go against each other more than in any other game/setting?
>>44362492
WoD is the mario party of RPGs, everyone has the same goal but nobody can achieve it at the same time

May as well name your character "Circulatory System", because it's equally apt.

He once had his hair set on fire, and then claimed that all of his hair was a single GREAT FLAMING EYEBROW.
It's just kinda stuck since then.
And now, for our annual reading of "The Night Before Emperor's Day".
T'was the night before Emperor's Day,
and he fought all alone,
in a four foot deep trench
lined with plasteel and stone.
I was traveling the warp
with gifts for the land,
when I saw this lone guardsman
making his brave stand.
I looked all about,
I looked near and far,
no Chimera, no Basilisk,
nor Techpriest or Commissar.
No Sergeant yelled orders
to this guardsman - no backing
to fight this ridge full of xeno

His gaze was so calm
in the face of calamity,
the perfect picture of
a guardsman of humanity.
Who was this brave hero
whose position I'd spied,
warring against
this unstoppable tide?
I now knew that all humans
I would see this night,
owed their lives to these guardsmen
who were willing to fight.
Soon all round the galaxy
the children would play,
and grownups would praise
the bright Emperor's Day.
They all lived their lives
every month of the year,
Because of brave guardsmen

Let him on the front lines, but be wary of him: I'll have to have a long talk with him... get to know him better, his motives for being with us.
Can't have any traitors among us.
That would be inconvenient.
To fight the abyss, one must know it.
Is Thresh still a top tier deck?
How do we save legacy?
How would you, if you were Wizards, reprint legacy staples in a new set?
I'd say "SUCK MY DICK GROGNARDS, YOUR COLLECTIONS DO NOT PAD MY WALLET" and then I'd reprint everything on the reserved list. SIMULTANEOUSLY.
All would be at mythic rare status. People would buy packs hand over fucking fists and about 50 fat useless pieces of fucking shit with their Vintage/Legacy collections would kill themselves and NO ONE would care because they do not benefit the game at all.
>>44351944
Honestly why the fuck does wizards care about retards with their 50 foil Jaces and Force of Wills? Ive been trying to get into legacy for ages but I cant fucking find any cards
>>44352027
Even if you do, it's almost impossible to trade for them.
>>44351916
Legacy needs reprints outside of standard blocks, half of it would warp the format to much, so more like conspiracy with a shut ton of legacy stuff or a legacy masters like MM1 and 2. Legacy is alive on mtgo since there are no reprunt rules for digital.
>building/playing/hating
Just moved and can't find a decent legacy group which is painful
