How do you get magic an unnatural feeling? To make it taboo and uneasy instead of just a means to expand power and levels?
Make it clearly and obviously fucking evil, needing the blood of virgins and the sacrifice of children on their 13th birthdays.

If every peasant starts throwing rocks at you, animals flee and you attract more and more shady figures with magical greed who want to be your friend.
Can Chaos be stopped?
>>44421661
Kill one of the gods. The great game ends and the warp becomes a barren void.
>>44421661
You don't need to. It is always self defeating. Success would mean uniformity, which would defeat the point.
Besides, the Warp is only a chaotic ness because the Old Ones figuratively dicked around too much with it, the eldar literally dicked around too much with it, and everyone in the universe is a horrible person.
Just close up the Eye of Terror, Get all the Eldar and Chaos worshippers into super-rehab, and try giving peace a chance, and eventually the Chaos Gods will get bored and loaf and...

Recently, I've found a new appreciation for what you'd call "anachronistic prehistory". That is to say, everything from prehistoric times mashed into one fictional setting that is only vaguely based off of cancepts from our own world.
>"Cavemen" and archaic Homonids are different "Fantasy Races".
>Different tribes and clans make up the different variants of player characters.
>Players main goals and quests are to simply survive, gather resources,...

We played a caveman setting that while generally grounded in reality, had some supernatural things here and there we encountered. Nothing like dragons flying around, but we did find goblins dwelling underground, and some strange possibly elves imprisoned in stone tombs.
Mostly though it was a little bit of oogah, a little bit of boogah, and a whole lot of oogah boogah. Also ridiculous gender disparity.
I once made a setting pretty similar to thus, but it had more generic societies to go with it.
Or basically, it was closer to Native American tribe level, plus lots of magic and stuff, less caveman. Metal was magical and unusual, most tools are made of the typical bone, wood, and stone. Also awesome Aztec cloth armor.

Been thinking about running a game where each of the players are the founding members of a new tribe.
A successful tribe has reached it's threshold for population, so as tradition dictates, a group of 6 men and 14 women must set out and create a "brother-tribe". Over the years, this sacred tradition has created a network of different tribes that are all very different. It is up to the players to find a new location for their tribe and survive 4 years, until the tribes gather at their new settlement...

Leaving the Half behind, you and Mile continued walking till sunset. He was still pretty mad at you but he chose to show it, that's it.
The scenery from you were sleeping was beautiful, the stars were smiling upon this radioactive wasteland. It was quiet too, you liked it that way.

You woke up the next day shaking a little bit "What the matter, Richard? Forgot to stock up on your shit breather?"

Getting into 40k after being out of it for about a decade. I had a bunch of Eldar models but back in the day i was more about painting than playing and winning, so i'm less experienced when it comes to rules/tactics/putting together a viable army list: I read the new eldar codex and rules and put together the following list, with the goal of building a 1000pt army to relearn the game with.
HQ: Farseer Skyrunner with spirit stone (135 pts)
Troops:
-6 windriders with scatter lasers- 162
-9 dire avengers +exarch with twinlinked catapult-145
-waveserpent-135

why did you use the 40k General image if you're not making a 40k General?

Didn't know that was the image, I forget where I found it but it wasnt here. Like I said I haven't gone near 40k in over a decade,

I'm bored at the slowest week of pointless work and I am possessed by the giving spirit and want to do a giveaway. However, I don't know if /tg/ does giveaways, and if we do, I don't know how to do them.
Here are some rules I'm making up, but check the first few replies for amended rules if something doesn't end up working.
>I will ask for a D100 roll - don't be a dick and pretend to be me asking for a roll
>When asking for a roll, I'll say what number I'm looking forComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Bumping because I want to make sure this doesn't break rules or that it isn't poor form in general.
For the record this method works fine but it might be more complicated than you need.
I have done a giveaway on /b/ before and usually it's just "dubs/trips/quads gets". Nice and simple. Rolling a dice works just fine too though.
Sounds good
So I'm working on a little project /tg/. I've got a bunch of scattered notes that I haven't quite pulled together into a second draft, but I wanted to bounce some ideas off of you because I value your opinion.
It's basically a 4E D&D clone with elements of Gamma World with some inspiration drawn from Japanese roleplaying games. The classes, however, are based on 3.5 D&D classes from Tome of Battle, Magic of Incarnum, and Expanded Psionics Handbook.
A few features:
You pick two classes. You can select a class twice. Martial classes...

The more you talk about how your work is derivative of other, more established systems (especially when it's DnD mixed with elements from DnD, which sounds a bit incestuous), it makes me lose confidence in the project. Revisit your project from the perspective of "what does this system offer that other, similar, more supported systems don't" and then ask yourself "is what this game offers worth a person learning a whole new system".
It sounds like you want a dynamic power system, which can be interesting for combat but you also have to keep in...

There's a time to innovate, and there's a time to refine. I describe this project as a D&D clone because that's exactly what it is, and there's nothing wrong with that. Lamentations of the Flame Princess is a D&D clone. Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyberboria is a D&D clone. Pathfinder is a D&D clone.
What I'm doing here is taking established work, and reexamining things from a different angle.
>>44417975
You are right that I need to work on the problem of analysis paralysis. It might help if there were tables to select maneuvers/powers/melds randomly, provided that the results are fairly evenly weighted. That might even earn the game some OSR cred.
You are also right that it is important to address conflict outside of combat. Hopefully the themes will help out with that.
Maybe I can add a relationship subsystem too...
I'm going to do a Sonic campaign to take the piss out of everything that is Sonic so far.
What is a good system for speed? What are some ways I can take the piss?

There's allot to take the piss out of from the fandom, but I would prefer to take the piss out of what is cannon first.

How would you export lore of Mass Effect into a fantasy setting?
>>44416473
Biotics are just mages. They're easy.
Honestly it's tech that's trickier. Probably cop out and say they're psionics. The various sealing abilities and rebuffs they have are mental assaults. Psi-crystal for drone, telekinetic barriers for shielding.
Reapers are literal giant space squid.
find and replace all sciencey words for fantasy terms. Honestly the difference between science fiction and fantasy can be stated to be up to word choice.
There's a few options for modelling how space is connected by the mass relays.
You could have portals link various realms/planets/planes that require a kind of spell jammer style ship to traverse.
But if you wanted a more typical fantasy feel you could have the setting be an archipelago where each mass relay and its surrounding systems are an island with a few cities/towns on it.
Lets build a DND 5e character that makes absolutely zero sense.
Im thinking a Drow cleric of nature. What do you all think?
>>44416180
The "nature" of the underdark is quite in-tune with the overarching Drow philosophy and aesthetic.
>>44416180
fairy barbarian
>>44416180
How does that not make sense? You could have a "nature red in tooth and claw" ultra-Darwinist spider cleric. Drow are all about survival of the fittest, their society is highly religious and the Underdark is an extreme competitive environment.
She could keep interesting types of spiders as pets, and use their different adaptations/qualities as part of moral sermons.

Classic fairy mythology comes from the Norse light/dark elves...

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Half-Kobold_%283.5e_Race%29
To to extremely different biology, the answer would have to be magic I think... unless humans and kobolds are somehow related.
I don't see the point of half-races unless the other half is overpowered for PCs.
Just man up and play a kobold. You might still need some amount of homebrew, but at least it already exists in the default setting.
>>44415554
No, I wasn't planing on playing it. I just thought it was intrusting that someone put this on the D&D wiki.
Also I do want play a kobold eventually, but everybody seems to hate you if you do. This would probably be seen as even more snowflaky
>>44415303
Kobolds are supposedly related to dragons. Dragons can apparently breed with pretty much any thing in DnD settings. So I don't see the issue if kobolds are related to dragons.
