So anyone excited about this, why or why not?
Any fears or whatever?

I wonder how well a monster mesume game would work in it?
>>44557133
Not exactly what i was going for.. But honestly.. Probably pretty decent.
>>44557113
If the system is good I think this would be a very strong launch actually, like a potential rival for one of the most-played or strongest PnP IPs going. But they picked Fuzion probably because they are all actual hardcore nerds and didn't think or care about accessibility, so I expect it to just wind up as another niche game that more people play D&D/PF converted for the IP than the actual game for.
I just had a sudden inspiration to make a sort of monster zoologist character for 3.5/PF. What would be the best class to do that with?
>>44556936
Druid and Ranger seem to easy. Wizard with a bunch of binding spells?
>>44556936
I really, really like you, Anon. Arcanogeneticists, or whatever you want to call them, are always a favorite character type of mine, and I am elated that someone else enjoys them. On subject, I'd suggest:
PF: Some combination of Ranger or Druid and Summoner or Wizard.
3.5: Druid and/or Wizard.
>>44556936
Maybe one of those pathfinder alchemists that perform operations on animals?
>perfect hair
>confidant stride
>ruggedly handsome
>wholesome family values
>feared and respected warrior
10/10: would bang
good because you were probably going to get raped around his army anyway
we get it, you're an epic meme generator, russ is now millhouse or something
can you stop now?
Will Magic card art ever be spooky again?
>>44555713
Probably not in the same way as it used to be. Have a Wall of Flesh for old time's sake.
No because that would be abilist as it demeans people of non conforming anatomy you shitlord. You need to really educate yourself.
Are you familiar with Phyrexia? Or Innistrad?
>be DM's landwhale gf
>get free gold
>get free overpowered magic items
>start with 20+ CHA (more attractive than some gods)
>get to impose your whims on the party
>get to end the session when you get bored
>get to dictate parts of the adventure by arguing with DM pre-game
>>44554956
Why don't you just become the DM you spoiled brat?
Who has been drawing those? Jo Pereira?

Did someone say MEHTAL BAWKSES?!
Hey, fa/tg/uys, do any of you know any post apocalyptic RPG systems that aren't too hard for newbies to get into?
>>44554865
Not any RPGs with a dedicated post-apocalyptic environment. I've always used generic systems with a post apoc coat of paint on them. In this case: Savage Worlds. Very newbie friendly and the way the rules are geared, very fitting to a post apoc world.
Apocalypse World is pretty easy to get into. Rules for players are straight forward. Character creation takes about 15 minutes if you print out the sheets.
>>44554895
I got the Deluxe Explorer's Edition. I figure it's time to just get stuck in.
Failing that, I'll just use FATE. FATE's the way to go.
Can we get one of these running for some inspiration? Other influences acceptable.
>>44554657
So.
There's this guy.
He's a big guy. Like REALLY big.
He has bat-wings, big ones.
He also has an Octopus for a head.
Now, he's green like a fish, because he lives underwater.
He's usually asleep since he's lazy, but when he wakes up he gets shit done.
Now, the shit he gets done, it usually involves lots of people going crazy.
I mean c'mon he's a big green guy with bat wings and an Octopus for a head.
But he's a pretty cool guy nonetheless, since...

I prefer less literal depictions of Cthulhu Mythos stuff, like the writer is only approximating what it resembles because he can't actually describe it.
> This elf breaks down your door and demands you hand over The Silmarils
I don't think so. They're gems of tree-light. Their life belongs to me.

AND NOW EVERYTHING YOU LOVE IS ON FUCKING FIRE!
Fucking elves always breaking my door
So it's clear that when it comes to BBEGs, Necromancers are totally unbalanced compared to other classes, only Wizards and maybe a few clerics and druids (and one or two rogues) even come close to being able to hatch plots so immense and powerful that their thwarting justifies a party of adventurers to go out into the land, perform epic feats while fulfilling epic quests, and ultimately save the land from those classes' evil hijinks.
So how do we make other classes besides necromancers competitive in the BBEG stakes?
While I can't help too much until I know the exact system (because each class has different amounts of power in different systems), I CAN say that if you want to make a BBEG that can wreck the land as well as piss off the party then you can go down this route.
This one's pretty easy.
Cleric - Cult leader.
Barbarian - Evil Warrior king a la Legate Lanius.
Fighter - Mercenary badass biggest motherfucker in town or like an evil, Dark Knight kinda guy.
Rogue - Shady manipulator a la Izaya Orihara from Durarara.
Artificer - lunatic genius with a magical anarchists cookbook running an organization outfitted woth custom gear
>>44553236
Stop caring about classes for bag guys and NPCs in general.
do high level adventurers look different from everyday people In your game?
>>44553138
Depends.
>>44553138
No, but in D&D 3.5 according to Knowledge skill rules, it can be quite difficult to identify the race of a high-level person. So in that setting apparently leveling up changes your appearance in unnatural ways.
In fact it's technically impossible to know your *own* race if you're untrained, because it's DC 10 + level and you auto-fail anything over 10.
>>44553138
you can usually notice the difference by looking at their equipment
Tell me /tg/, what can you do when the GM forces a subplot out of nowhere, even when it is completely irrelevant to the story and the feel of the game?
Last night we had our first game of the year so were just sandboxing a bit. Then our female fighter went to have a beer at a shady looking tavern when she notices a guy cloaked in black standing next to her, and much to her shock is the BBEG, an absurdly powerful vampire lord.
The BBEG tells her to not be afraid even if she is scared as fuck, and commends her on stopping his plot to kidnap a princess and turn her...

>"honestly kind of hot".
I agree.
>>44552953
Dunno, man. Sounds like a pretty good plot hook. Defeated villain returns with a personal interest in one of the players.
I'd say let the player who got proposed to make the decision on how to react to it.
So let me get this straight:
>DM drops a plot twist out of nowhere
>Other players are fine with it
>YOU have a problem with it and do not want this to happen, even though it's not your character.
>So you make a thread calling this "out of nowhere" and "completely irrelevant", expecting us to agree with you that it's somehow wrong and not good.
Sounds like the problem here is you, OP.

I haven't played Risk since I was a kid and was thinking about picking up a copy. I heard the latest edition made changes people weren't happy about. What's the best edition to get, both gameplay/artwise?
Risk: Legacy
>>44552776
literally the best board game I have ever played
good taste anon
>>44552776
>>44552836
I'd prefer a definitive edition of the original game, preferably one that doesn't involve destroying my own property.
Hey there, folks.
So I am an aspiring GM and I have picked and bought a system I like. I asked around on here and people pointed me towards FATE as my first system to GM.
It seems pretty easy to digest and handle. Now I have another issue: resources.
What are some tips and resources I should be looking into for my first campaign. I want to do a campaign inspired by the show "Weeds" where the PCs are selling drugs in a world of magic to repay their debts.
Where should I go to make maps and stuff? What are some of the simplest, most elegant solutions to visual aids that you have seen?
I'll just greentext my questions and you guys can answer any of them that you feel like:
>What should I use for maps as a first-time GM?
>What works well for visual aids, if anything? Is vague better?
>What about music? Good thing or a bad thing?
>Any pitfalls I should try to avoid as a first-time GM?
>What's the best piece of advice you've learned or been given about table-top RPG campaigns?
Aspiring GM general, I guess?
>>44552737
> Should I use maps as a first-time GM?
Wait do you mean for yourself? Or for the players?
I dont ever recall FATE's combat being particuarly tactical so you could do without it.
> What works well for visual aids, if anything? Is vague better?
A *clear* (does not necessarily mean detailed) description is your best bet. Unless you're an artist with time, or you have some extra time for prep to find some art asset you're looking for, pictures are also nice for NPCs and monsters or whatever
> What about music? Good thing or a bad thing?
It can be good if not over used and if you don't do some stupid shit like play it every battle because "ITS THE BATTLE THEME GUYS" or "ITS THE FANFARE hurr hurr"
> Any pitfalls I should try to avoid as a first-time GM?
Don't over prepare and just roll with the punches. Don't be nervous because, honestly, people want to play and don't really give a shit if you're not a natural voice actor. If they see you're trying, the other players will do their best to make the session a good time
>What's the best piece of advice you've learned or been given about table-top RPG campaigns?
Know your rule set. Read over sections in detail between sessions and try not to over prep (you will have a good idea of what over prepping is over time). Be mindful and really learn to pick up inspiration from players on the fly. For example, in the one shot adventure I'm running for friends, instead of stealthly taking out hobgoblin gaurds in an outpost as I had originally designed it, one of the spell casting pcs sent telepathic messages to some bug bear mercenaries posing as a god and caused an uprising against their "inferior" goblin kin sending the place into chaos, which honestly, was much more amusing than what I originally had planned.
>>44552737
TO join in, I'm new at this GMing thing too. I've run two sessions so far and have spent most of my time mucking about with creation and rules, since most of my friends haven't played before. I've got a few central NPC's, a villain who will attach to a larger conspiracy, and the party have been put on the trail. I've played pretty fast with the rules so far, trying to keep things balanced but still letting people have fun.
What I'd like is combat tips, given my players are...

Fuck preparations, make everything up as you go.
Tell me anon, how many quests have you completed and what was your last quest you have done?
What was the most complex quest you have been involved with?
>>44552520
>using the term quest outside videogames.
wow player or just another D&D pleb who treats the hobby like skyrim without graphics?
What like, current game? Because I certainly can't remember how many quests I've ever completed.

alright fuckwit what do you call them?
