Leave out the bits you don't like, emphasise the bits you do.

In your time as a DM or a player, have you ever come across a PC that just flops on the roleplay aspect? Be it a That Guy, a newfag, or just a bad decision in character making, share your war stories of bad characters and bad roleplaying.
I'll start.
>Be running custom setting in which dragonborn are nomads without a home. One player decides to make a Dragonborn paladin of Bahamut.
>This is one of those fuckers who does everything in one short sentence, you know, the "I pull the lever" or...

So you and your group is totally ok and casual about having erps throughout the session?
>>44581670
I usually say no unless it advances the plot, but this guy just wouldn't take the hint.
>>44581733
You're the gm, gotta bring the hammer down harder if need be.
Worst loyalist chapter by far
>templars
>look like teutons
>both are pure cringe as far as SM themes go
>hollier than thou
>constant fucking sermons
>I hate melee oriented chapters
and the Damnation Crusade comic made me hate them even more
why are they so dickrided? Ultramarines are legit way more likeable
I gotta admit though praying to the Emperor while in...

Shut it anti-skub
Skub is best chapter
>>44581257
Nah, the worst chapter by far has to be the Dark Angels, their entire chapter can be summed as"look how dark and brooding we are", also there have been renegade chapters that have helped the Imperium more than those bathrobe wearing cock-splinters, at least the Templars get shit done.
What was Lorgar's intended purpose? He seems to have been the weakest Primarch by far. Worse at fighting than pretty much all of his siblings, no particularly outstanding psychic gifts to make up for it, little interest in war and fighting... Why would the Emperor want a Primarch like him?
>>44581207
The Emperor didn't
But that because the Emperor was brilliant at wasting the potential of his underlings.
Lorgar is one of the primarchs whose talents were wasted on war.
He was a great motivator, a political reformer and a builder of societies. He was in many ways a spiritual Guilliman.
If he, Guilliman and Fulgrim had been given to Malcador and given positions in the Administratum the Imperium would have been so much better.
But then the Emperor not going Full Fedora might also have helped.
>>44581227
To be fair, Lorgar was created to be one of the greatest soldiers in the galaxy and his purpose was to lead the Emperor's armies while daddy governed and did research. The enormous expense of creating a primarch seems wasted on menial bureaucratic labor that does not actually require their massive size and power.
>>44582298
Irrelevant.
They were lost assets the moment the Emperor forgot to put warp-proofing on his doom fort.
After that all primarchs were salvage.
And also keeping the Empire is as important as conquering it.
And daddy wasn't governing it. Malcador was. Daddy E was fucking around with tings in his basements he didn't understand.
So, Yesterday there was a wonderful little "Drow prisoner wat do" type thread. Not that all such threads were wonderful, but there were a few highlights. The God-Emperor himself showed up and began a tale of Naive drow and terrified young men. There were many disputes over whether or not it was OK to be lewd to bashful drow maids, with surprisingly good imagery pertaining to it. I myself took up the mantle of an old Knight, bickering on the topic of the morality of committing genocide on their entire race with another anon who, I admit, was a highly competitive opponent.I...

Hail fellow, glad ta see you enjoyed our little chat as much as I!
I hope to hear from others aswell today: if I manage to make time, I'll post something myself perchance.
>>44580904
Good to see you too! Though I wonder what caused the thread to be wiped... Oh well.
>>44580915
Our conversation got me thinking, you know.
About paladins and how they should be the chosen champion of the god they serve: wouldn't it be natural for them to be sort of prophets aswell? Hearing the will of their god and carrying out their will.
That is, of course, if the paladin serves a god rather than an ideology in a setting.
If our sun was equivalent in size to your little finger nail if you held it in the palm of your hand, how tall would you need to be and what would your Str be?
google the size of the sun
divide it by the size of your finger nail
multiply your height by that number
my estimate is "really big"
>>44580650
>your little finger nail if you held it in the palm of your hand
this made me wince
THE POWER OF THE SUNIN THE PALM OF MY HAND
Greetings
So i'm trying to make my players go insane in more lovecraftian ways and am asking for a little bit of help.
So here's the game
Easy Mode: Give a Lovecraftian Insanity
Hard Mode: Give a specific example of insanity in Lovecraftian fiction.
Eldritch Mode: Quote the passage
>>44580273
The trick isn't to make it edgy, but to make it personal. You need to pick up the player where they are, and then increase tension incrementally. You make the symbols, you don't have to be overt about it, or crude.
CoC pretty much leaves you alone with the san countdown. At best it offers ways to flavor it (Monophobia), but the inner mechanics of the game seriously lack. To amend this introduce the Madness Meter, or play with another system altogether (UA, Nemesis, DG).
Basically every Lovecraft...

Not that anon, but thanks, that's a nice PDF, I'll use it.
I want to adapt some Delta Green adventures to Eclipse Phase. I'd ask in /epg/, but I couldn't find it. Looking for advice, especially how to deal with the fact that no one uses papers and books anymore.
>>44581508
DG relies heavily on law enforcement and alphabet soup tropes. You'd have to install those in EP first, and I don't see it working.
Dropped out when 7th ed came out because I couldn't afford it, but I still have ~3000 points of tau lying about. Is there any point getting back into the game or has GW reached the end times? Absolutely loved 6th ed and I miss the satisfaction of a game
>loved 6, hate 7
It's the same shit. Also, tau are now ridiculously easy to break and make OP without allying
>>44580232
It's still going strong. As with any game, it just depends on whether or not your attitude about it has changed. Doesn't seem like it has, though. So for you it is probably not worth it to get back in.
>>44580232
Would a Shock Baton be basically a power maul?
Also I want a movie about Guardsmen now.
Loyal ones, not TRAITORS

Is slavery in line with the moral code of the Imperium of Man?
>>44580205
sure, it's just not called slavery
Go home shill you're drunk.
>>44580214
>>44580205
Isn't it more like the Imperium's relationship with people is basically feudal and everyone's a serf? So they're definitely not slaves.
What was Ork technology like before humans became a space faring race?
Did they still have trucks, guns, bombers and so many things analogus to human technology? Or would their tech have been influenced far more common and nearby Eldar or Necron whom they would have had much more experience fighting and looting.
Furthermore, their language is distinctly similar to Gothic including several words and names which directly mimic Gothic language (such as captain "Bludd Flag" or words like "Trukks", "shootas", and "axes" being...

At one time the eldar were the biggest space fairing race.
Now it is the Humans.
Soon the tyranids, so expect looted carnifexes and bio space fist shooters to be more common place amongst the orks.
>>44580102
We're already getting some of that in the Octarius war.
I wonder if the Orks will start taunting the Tyranids in gutteral shouts and roars.
You know why
>Because it's a made up setting, that reflects >our society, or parts of it.
>Because it's cool
>Because no one want to read a codex or ork story that is unreadable because they use their own fucking growling language
>GRRUUUUU, HMPF, WRAUW, HRTHRTRHHHRRR, MLMLMLMMMMZHHGG
wauw, great fucking read that was
>8,000 funbucks
>for a pre-built gaming table
Anybody got some custom or fancy gaming tables they want to share? I'm looking for inspiration.
Right now I'm taking of integrating some HD TV/Monitors into one because ITS THE GOD DAMNED FUTURE HRRRNG- but occulus rift will cost 500+$ per person and require real programming so fuck waiting for that. Maybe rear projection instead but the material for a clear image that close to the screen is about as expensive as using HD screens in the first place.
>>44579983
What will you put on this monitor?
>>44580062
Landscapes, gameboards, maps, portraits, etc.
Anything from a grid to a landscape, as needed.
Not having to print out grid maps, and just make them using convenient existing digital tools would be super convenient.
I just went the classic way:
I bought $20 6x6 sheet of weather resistant placstic sideing at home depot.
It is literally white bored material. I just cut it to the shape of a table I had, added 1'" indent for easy grids if the need arrises.
All in all it took maybe 3 hours, some patience, and I basically have a huge gaming board that can take spills like a champ.
Guys I fucked up, and now I need to DM a one shot in a couple hours, what the fuck do I do?
It's in 5e, a party of 4 level 3 players, An arcane trickster, a rogue, a wizard (evocation), and a bard. What do?
Whenever you're caught out, orcs kidnapping someone in a village is an easy out. Add some appropriately leveled enemies and call it a day.
>>44579788
Tomb of Horrors.
Do it fggt
>>44579798
honestly if they get close quarters the orcs'll fuck em up...play on children, play on
Drop me some NPC pictures please. I am in need of some for a folder for use in future games. :)

New GM here. I want to run a SCP game with a crime thriller atmosphere and an emphasis on balanced investigation and relatively easy combat mechanics. Preferably rules-lite, but taking all suggestions.
Joints and Jivers
>>44579514
Gumshoe would probably work well for you, OP. It's literally designed for investigative games.
>>44579514
If you wanted to go super rules light, something like this might be up your alley: http://cavalorn.livejournal.com/241167.html
I've been looking for board games that don't actively pit the players against each other, but rather put them together to fight a common goal. I've played a few board games like this, like Pandemic, but I was wondering what games you've all been playing that are cooperative.

Our group loves playing Ghost Stories
>>44578540
This one does seem pretty fun, what with it being inherently non-violent from what I can tell.
>>44578619
I've seen this at the game store I go to. What's the rundown of it? You're protecting a village, yeah?
