Read the 3e core book (link below). For the basics of combat, read this tutorial. It'll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

So has anyone had a game or an idea on how to stop the Neverborn? If so what strategies were used?
I came up with a couple ideas for fun that if the players wanted to I would allow in my games. Both are based off of the idea that Lethe is keeping the Neverborn afloat. Basically since the Primordials made Lethe to recycle souls it is attempting to recycle the Primordial's souls but it cannot.
So the first idea is an attempt to reincarnate the Neverborn. One such method would be to go and defeat each Hektonare/Dead 3rd Circle for each Neverborn and capture it's...

The second idea while far simpler in process I have no idea how to accomplish and has far more devastating consequences. Basically you destroy Lethe. This would stop the reincarnation of Souls and would drop the Neverborn into the abyss along with every ghost and every soul when something dies. You could I guess reroute souls after you destroy lethe into a different process like a Heaven or something but it causes a lot of problems for soul allocation as well as souls permanently being lost to the Void.
Anyone...

Finding out anything concrete about the dead titans seems like a tall order, considering how much has been lost since their time, and also considering the fact that their inner workings and deepest secrets may well be something that was never known to anyone except themselves.

Do mystics, harbingers, nightmares, rubati, polymaths, and contenders have any reason to use Strength if they start at level 3+ and can take Weapon Finesse and Deadly Agility?
Do night terrors have any reason to use Strength if they can have Killer's Implements at level 1?
Do stalkers have any reason to use Strength if they can have Killer's Implements at level 1 and vigilante is way better than every other stalker archetype?

Night Terrors get more benefit out of Str if they want to use two-handed improvised weapons later on by hitting people with big things. You can't pick "improvised weapon" with Killer's Implements as far as I can tell so it ends up not great.

What's with the superfluous quotes? Two would suffice.
You can't. That's like asking how to play a straight gay guy. You're either gay (degenerate) or not.

I'd play him like a loose cannon cop.
Only instead of the police, he works for the church, and instead of the mayor or something, have his god complain to his bishop or whatever.

So, I've been reading the Dark Angels codex. Do these douchebags have any redeeming qualities? I don't really just mean morally, because 40k, but including in a way that makes them interesting. Because the codex makes it out to seem like the Dark Angels have an obsession with the Falleb so strong, that it's single-minded to the point of comedy.
Do they do ANYTHING else? Even the events listed where it's mentioned they fight Orks or whatever, it'll later turn out that it was only just a cover to hunt for the Fallen; likely while leaving other Imperial...

That's really their main motivation. I'm not sure if their successors are this obsessed.
Nope, they are just that shitty. They have cool outfits though.
>>48044783
They're incredibly competent and have the best spies in the Imperium to the point the Inqusition still doesn't know anything other than sometimes they flake out. Fighting the fallen is their number 1 goal tied with defending the Imperium, and a big flaw is that they might sometimes choose the wrong priority. Otherwise they're fucking amazing marines who are incredibly coordinated, stubborn, tactical, and have whole hosts of options strategically.
The dunes of aral shift and wave in the wind as the night continues to darken, rumbling slightly as animals flee from their buried nests. A geyser of sand and chips of stone erupts forth as Lyle and Mauser, locked together as they exchange blows, tumble through the air, shattered wings and sputtering jump jets struggling to steady themselves as they plummet into the sand, separating as they roll wildly over the hills, their armored suits sending chips of sparking circuits and chunks of bleeding chitin flying away. They stop, nearly ten meters apart, and Lyle hoists himself up,...

It's another beautiful morning in the Village Hidden in the Leaves. As you walk, you glance over to the Hokage Mountain. They've just finished the seventh head, and behind the mountain, you can see the frames of some skyscrapers that are in the process of being built. It's certainly a different sight than when you were younger. But time marches on.

So lads I want to know if it's worth getting back into 40k or GW games generally.
I stopped collecting and painting around 10 years ago and haven't followed the releases much since, so is it worth it to get back in?
Am I going to be wasting my money on a dying game? I don't want to drop 500 pounds on the game and then have it die in 5 years or so.
If I do get back into this then what's a good starter set to get? I'm most interested in 40k but fantasy is also an option.
Thanks.
pls reply
>>48093868
don't drop 500 GBP on an army then?
for 85 USD you can get a 400 point army for most any faction, and if you turn to ebay you can get things even cheaper
as stated in the general thread, people having been saying the game is going to die for the last 20 years. I don't think it is too much closer to dying now.
Good starter sets?

If you're looking to start, now is probably the best time you could possibly pick.
As >>48094369 said. the getting started boxes are actually good savings on the models. The rules are still shit for 40k, but that's nothing new since it's inception.
What's your preferred aesthetic for orcs? I feel like we're in a post-Warcraft world now where the green-skinned tribal brutes are the most popular image, even moreso than WHFB/40k's orks. I generally prefer the pig-like orcs, they retroactively stand out more and I find animal-people to be appealing in general.
I don't really think the Tolkien orcs stand out much nowadays, especially since the movies had them more like ugly humanoids rather than something really distinctive.
Grey-skinned brutes like the LotR movies, Warcraft-style orcs are too cartoony and porcs are just ridiculous.
I think we need to return to ye olde pig-men paradigm. Big green dudes with tusks has gotten kinda stale lately.

Tell me about your character, /tg/!
>>48075366
No. My group will know I'm a loser that posts on 4chan.
>>48075396
Fuck 'em! Tell me anyway!
She's a half-dragon warrior who has taken up the occupation of dragonslaying for reasons I have not yet decided. Maybe she has daddy issues (or mommy issues?) or something. Either way, that draconic strength lets her use the big weapons that hurt dragons real good.
Alright /tg/, let's say as a sole sane individual in 40k you realise that they're your best bet as allies against chaos, nids, orks and everything else in this galaxy.
Obviously the rest of the Imperium still goes full "muh xenos", but how do we even begin to mend this shitty, unnecessesary massacre of human lives and resources against someone who you'd want on your side?
The emprah is okay with it.
Do you think your opinion matters? Billions of people die in war every day for the Imperium, can't se why one person should make the difference.

Minor nitpick: For Targeted Attacks, you round towards zero (up), not away from it (down). So, for the eye, you take -9/2 = -4.5, round towards 0 for a -4 with a fully bought-up TA attacking the eyes, not -5.
Example that backs me up: TA (Judo Throw/Skull): Defaults to Judo-7; cannot exceed Judo-3. -7/2 = -3.5, round towards zero (up) for -3 (MA68).

Is a really good place to start for non-interactive examples. Everyone should at least read the basic ones to get an idea of how things work.
Another quick note to new people: GURPS combat rounds are very small, one second slices. Don't panic if all you can do in a turn is aim a gun, draw a sword or move. I've defiantly seen several people come from D&D and be exceptionally frustrated at how hard it is to move five yards and attack in one turn.
>>48049440
>Minor nitpick
Good catch! Somehow I read "round up" as "round away from 0." Somehow I glossed over the examples in MA.
