Cycling shorts might help a bit but it is probably more of a flexibility and strength problem for you. If you put less weight on your wrists they stop hurting. If you are flexible enough to bend your hips and back so your weight is on the sit bones your ass will hurt less. Don't sit on your testicles.
But a road bike at any position takes some getting used to.

I think there are plenty of guys out there, including Contador, Quintana, and Nibali. The problem is that they all have to ride like freelancers now. But imagine a Valverde/Nibali/Quintana/Contador train. If Contador is on form and has a dedicated train like Wiggo had a few years back, he could dominate just as much as sky are now. The only problem is that they are all trying to contend on their own, and that's when you end up having a yellow jersey group with 4 sky guys and maybe just two members of every other GC contender team.
