shitty metal: football
bland rock: hockey
Snooker
Prog Rock: Ironman type triathlon
>Long, drawn out though has a passionate cult following. Meanders over several days of puzzling detours. Anybody can respect the technical aspects of what's happening but nobody would expect people to all listen at a party.

Oh, and hockey and football should be reversed.
Now for a positive spin on this idea.
American football: Classical music (given how structured and "composed" play is. And a QB does seem like a conductor).
Soccer: Jazz (play is heavily improvised)
Baseball: Post-Rock (slow, ambient buildups to a crescendo).
Basketball: Jazz-Fusion (improvised play but with more "attitude.")
Cricket: Ambient ("comfy").
Hockey: Punk or Metal (fast and aggressive)

except punk/metal aren't irrelevant

Ouch.

American football is more like Math-Rock. It's full of complex nonsense which is actually quite boring after 5 minutes
