So we have a lot of topics on fixing football but I thought I'd come in with some suggestions to make baseball better, taking cues from it's anglo brother, cricket

>get rid of the DH
Not a surprising change, it's a shit rule. Pitchers have to bat, and they can't change the order either.

>each team has to use at least three pitchers, who are all named in the 9 man batting order
By the 8th inning, there has to have been either
>3 pitchers used having pitched 2 innings each
OR
>4 pitchers used total
Ideally a 9-innings game would be 3-3-3, but I'd allow 4-3-2 between three pitchers to favour the better guy. No switching pitchers during an inning. If a guy is throwing trash then he has to keep throwing trash until the 3 outs.

If a pitcher is not currently pitching, they are fielding. The 9 players on the field are the same as the 9 on the team sheet, unless someone is injured.

For additional complexity
>a pitcher cannot pitch two consecutive innings
Encourages teams to be more tactical with who they use and when

This means, on average, you'd have 6 batting specialists and 3 pitching specialists in the starting 9, the batting order would have to consider whether the pitchers are any good at batting and where to put them relative to the stronger batters, and it will force teams to have pitching depth because one guy can't throw the entire game and a shitty third pitcher can lose it for you. It also encourages more all-round skills, a lot of players now have to be competent at batting, pitching and fielding otherwise they risk being a liability.

Also, it gets rid of the fat cunt DHs

Thoughts?

This

It's widely considered one of the best parts of cricket when the bowlers (who are total shit) get forced to bat

Instead baseball removes the sick memes from the sport and replaces it with big fat cunts who can't run or catch
>>
>>69494457
It does slightly no doubt but I don't get the obsession americans have with having a huge squad and having a guy who does one very very specific thing and then sits on the bench for the rest of the season

I think it's more interesting just having 9 players picked and having to deal with the strengths and weaknesses of those 9 alone. Big rosters still come into it because of the 1398214 regular season games
>>
>>69494525
You have the main starting lineup and those have their own strengths and weaknesses, the bigger roster only adds to the arsenal and can make something players very important the the roster. makes dueling much more fun as well as making for more possible outcomes

Other than the AL having a DH, the rules are mostly fine. MLB just needs to step into the 21st century and adopt a salary cap, salary floor, and 50/50 revenue sharing among the teams.
>>
>>69494643
because that would force daniel to use a concept from pyjama cricket (bowling/pitching quotas) in his model and he'd rather sudoku than do that
>>
>>69494468
Not all baseball

National League has pitchers batting
Shitty American League has designated hitters
>>
>>69494643
Yeah why don't they? I feel like with 3 pitchers required, at least one of them would be a batter who is reasonably good at pitching, because having three pure pitchers who are all total shit at batting would be a MASSIVE liability

You can't have pitchers pitch one inning then come back two innings later and resume. That's going to increase the amount of injuries by 1000%.

>No switching pitchers during an inning. If a guy is throwing trash then he has to keep throwing trash until the 3 outs.

I like this idea and removing the DH, obviously, but the the other ideas are bad.

Forcing 3 pitchers to bat will just make the game less offensive and remove one of baseball's greatest elements: the threat of a huge of comeback at ANY time. Defeating a lineup that has 3 pitchers in it would be piss easy.

>Well, that's why you have to choose a pitcher who is maybe just okay at pitching and batting and not overly specialized in either area. This would keep the comeback factor alive.

No one wants to watch a position player pitch. It's literally like watching a woman pitch, and why it's such comical event when it happens. The magic of the comeback happens when a team unloads on a Kershaw or a closer who hasn't given up a run in 40 games.

And you can't just "make" yourself into a pitcher. There's very few people in baseball (in the world) who can throw 95-100mph with pinpoint control while also having the ability to throw nasty off-speed junk.

Players with second tier arms are usually outfielders, and aside from Aaron Hicks and Puig, most outfielders top out at about 95mph, and this is with putting their entire body behind the throw.

Cricket can get it away with the all-around idea because it's accepted that it's an offensive game, so seeing a shitty bowler(s) get shelled for 5 hours straight is part of the game.

In baseball, the challenge is how is Team A going to beat Team B's starting pitching and bullpen. You remove that dynamic by forcing someone like Ryan Goins or Ichiro to pitch for 2 innings.

>If a pitcher is not currently pitching, they are fielding. The 9 players on the field are the same as the 9 on the team sheet, unless someone is injured.

If you like this, I recommend you watch Little League baseball.
>>
>>69495590
tttt I don't know nearly enough about baseball to honestly know whether what I'm suggesting is truly retarded, but I just feel the fact that a single pitcher can do a whole game doesn't really feel like one team v another, it feels like one guy v 9 guys.

And why would it increase injuries? it happens literally all the time in cricket and there's no injury problem made by that in particular

>>69495721

Kill yourself, Daniel
>>
>>69494354
-Enforce the time limit between pitches rule
-Limit the number of pickoff attempts per inning
-Abolish divisions
-Cut the number of games per team down to 86: 56 against teams from their own league (2 home, 2 away) and 30 against teams from the other league (1 home, 1 away)
-Eliminate the DH Rule
-Cap the number of pitchers per game to 4

Personally, I'd like to see the playoffs eliminated and go to the old "league champions play each other in the WS" format, but there's no question that the playoffs are good for the league as a whole.

We seriously don't need to change anything about the game to improve it. What needs to change are the players. None of the players have an ounce of personality, just watch any interview. "Uhhh the other team is very good, they were tough, uhhh we got a good group of guys uh uh uh." And if anyone shows some color we penalize them, ie Brian Wilson. We need more Pete Roses, Bill Lees, Dock Ellises. The NFL has them as does the NBA, why the fuck can't we? Our faggot players need to drop this humble bullshit. They're being filmed every day, I can't believe none of them has thought to do something they think is funny or important.

>but I just feel the fact that a single pitcher can do a whole game doesn't really feel like one team v another, it feels like one guy v 9 guys.

Baseball and cricket are individual sports masquerading as team sports (I do find that comment to be a bit reductive, but it does hold some truth).

Cricket has the inverse of a batter being able to basically beat a team by himself.

You should also take the long view here and consider baseball over a season or series length, and in that case, one guy can't beat a team.

Off a mound maybe. But I think every starting right fielder can hit 90+ on a hop. There are guys that have been clocked at 100 as well.

Rafael Furcal threw like 99 mph from shortstop back in the day. I bet Machado hits 95.

Are you a fucking retard? MLB has the most parity of all American sports leagues. Only two franchises have never made it to the World Series -- Seattle and Montreal/Washington. Only eight have never won a World Series.

That's way better than the NFL, NBA, and NHL.

13 NFL teams have never won a Super Bowl, and 4 have never been to a Super Bowl.

12 NBA teams have never won the Finals, and 7 have never been to the Finals.

11 NHL teams have never won a Stanley Cup, and 5 have never been to the Finals.
