-Luis Suarez deserves this year's Ballon d'Or by a hundred miles
-Also he just proved that he is the best striker in the history of football
-France and Belgium are full of overrated shit, especially Griezmann, Hazard, De Bruyne, Lukaku and Martial
-Spain NT is full of shit as well, seriously Nolito, Aduriz, Silva and Juanfran shouldn't even be playing for a NT
-Regardless of how much trophies they won, Argentina's current squad is the second best NT ever (first one is obviously Spain 2010 minus Torres and Ramos)
-Verratti, even though he's still young, is already world class and shits on a hell lot of players
-Umtiti is talented as fuck and will become one of the best defenders in the world

THese aren't just unpopular. These are absolute dogshit.
The fact that you don't rate players such as Griezman, De Bruyne and Silva shows you know fuck all mate.
Suarez is good. Probably like on of the best of all time. Henry, Van Basten, Muller and Fat Ronaldo are all better centre forwards. I could probably name more, but I cba.

Time for the most unpopular opinion on this board right.
-Messi is the undisputed GOAT. No one can match the brilliance of his goalscoring, creativity and ball control in one package. The only other player close to Messi is Maradona, but his goalscoing record is shit compared to Messi's (Maradona played deeper tbf)

He had a pretty good campaign and you can only beat what you get set in front of you, but it's not that impressive fucking over Malmo and Shakhtar. Wolfsburg was quite impressive if not slightly lucky(The free kick)
>>
>>69486092
>but his goalscoing record is shit compared to Messi's (Maradona played deeper tbf)

He also played in far weaker teams than Messi's Barca and in the most defensive era/league in history. Also several rule changes happened in football shortly after Maradona's peak to make the game more attacking (back-pass got banned and offside rule changed to favour the attacker). Not saying he's as good a goalscorer as Messi, but comparing stats across eras without context is silly.
>>
>>69486092
Henry and Fatnaldo were great, pretty much like Villa for example
Suarez is just better

I get you senpai, but that Napoli team was pretty ugging good due to Mafia money. Only conceded 16 goals the year they won the Scudetto. I also concede and nowagree comparing stats across eras is retarded. The 80's and 90's were the most defensive time in football and comparing it to modern day is dumb but it is even dumber comparing now or the 80's to Pele era football where football was literal joke tier.

>two goals in 3 CL finals is somehow unimpressive

What the actual fuck? That's a great record. Finals are usually the cagiest games in the tournament and having 2 goals is p good. Also just because he didn't score against Juventus doesn't mean he was shit. He's basically the reason Suarez had the chance to even get his goal and his pass from deep to Neymar is what started the attack for Rakitic's first goal.

I'll give that he's a wee poofter for retiring, but I think he's just sick of the AFA and will come back.

Messi has had countless big games though. He's the leading el clasico scorer. He scored a hat trick when he was 19 in el clasico to equal Van Nistelrooy's GOAT el clasico performance. He scored that fucking unreal run in the Copa del Rey final against Bilbao when it was 0-0. I have watched countless big Messi games, but sadly he is fucking poo for his NT.
>>
argentina is not the 2nd best team in the world if their tactics have been horrible for the last 12 years they played with messi. and its messis fault for being an autistic moron. he KNOWS whats wrong.

messi is a system babby and he plays much worse for the national team than he does for barce. his system at barce: let 9 other outfielders posess the ball and fatigue the opponents before they pass to him when messi is the only guy on the pitch with fresh legs. messi is one of the only players with zero defensive workrate.

system at argentina: team tries to play barce, can't hold posession, everyone panics when its 0-0 half time and they revert to hoof balls to higuain because messi ran only 3 fucking kilometres in 45 minutes with his shitty meme tactics and it is like playing with 10 men.

Napoli were pretty much the Man City of that era. They bought a shitload of players in a short space of time. Maradona wasn't even thought to be the best performer in that team in Napoli's first title campaign by some Italian media. Gazetta dello Sport for example rated a couple above him.

>messi is one of the only players with zero defensive workrate.
confirmed for never watching Argentina play

Casuals think that Messi "disappears" because he plays deep, presses, and involves himself in build-up play but rarely in the final third. He plays this role for Argentina because no one else in the midfield can string two passes together (Tata stacks the midfield with defensive players) and his strikers - Aguero, Higuain - should in theory take some of the load off his shoulders, but in reality completely fail to take advantage of the space he creates. They just stand around and watch Messi try to dribble 4 players instead of making forward runs themselves.

-This Argentina is the greatest team in history to not win a trophy
-Messi had already certified himself as the GOAT even before 2014
-Italy was the best team this Euros
-People under-appreciate what Xavi provided for spain (and overrating Iniesta)
-Neuer is not the best goalkeeper in the world, Rui Patricio or Claudio Bravo seem more connected with the defenders making them more secure and less prone to blunders
-On the topic of Goalkeeping, Messi missed the penalty because he practices with Bravo daily at Barcelona
-Griezmann is the second best player in the world
-Pepe is the best defender, Boateng not top 3
-Kimmich will be the best back by 2022

to ABM's, Messi does nothing for Argentina. He doesn't defend, doesn't attempt any take-ons, all his passes fail, and he just starts puking on the field left and right to the point where they physically have to hault the match to get a cleaning crew onto the pitch.
>>
>>69490858
I agree with all these except about Iniesta being overrated, also not mentioning Buffon and the bit about Argentina being the best team, on paper maybe but if you watch them play Aguero is shit, their midfield is non existent and Higuain tries but he's cursed or some shit

Soccer has gone massively downhill in the last 10 years. Any average Quarter Final team(say England from 2006) from before 2006 in WC/Euro would have walked Euro 2016.

Any Argentina team from 2006 > any Argentina team since 2006

Luis Suarez is currently the best player in the world. Griezmann is #2. They both make ANY team they play for a lot better, which isn't something you can always say about Messi/CR7.

Messi and Ronaldo don't get the flak they should for not winning as much with their international teams. La Liga is a very top-heavy league so their goalscoring records are inflated.

Messi is a specialist. He's the best at one thing kind of like Beckham was with dead balls, but not really worthy of the all time GOAT label, though he's obviously better than Beckham. It's not completely his fault that Argentina doesn't win anything, but it's also NOT not his fault too.

Gap between Europe/South America and the rest of the world has massively narrowed. This will be shown the next World Cup.

There are no more fundamentals/technique in soccer anymore. Because of that, parking the bus has become a good strategy, which should never really be the case for soccer. Attacking play should be rewarded, not punished. There needs to be some kind of rule change about this soon.

No other coach in the world can do a better job than Klinsmann with the USA NT.
>>
>>69485821
every fucking thread one of you shitheads always insists that suarez was le best striker of all time. Yes he's been phenomenal, whether he deserves ballon'dor over ronaldo, is arguable though very likely. But players like romario and original ronaldo were on another level. Especially original ronaldo, who in his prime might have been the best player that ever lived. He had better pace, better dribbling, and dare I say it, maybe even better finishing then rat king.

>zero defensive workrate

At Barcelona during the Guardiola era the front three used to press intensely if they lost the ball high up the pitch. If they couldn't get the ball back after a few seconds they would foul in order to prevent a counter, and would never get carded because they were so far away from their own goal. They practiced this during training the most, and was the key to that teams success. If I remember correctly Messi led the team with the most fouls, so he definitely did his part defensively, but their unique style of play made it difficult to catch.

Agree on everything except Maradona was the GOAT

You have to understand the teams he played for were mostly dogshit before he arrived and he played in a completely different era

He had battle his way past an entire team to score most of the time, all of them chomping at his ankles, and he still did it incredibly often

Messi is indisputably the best player of this era and MAY be better than Maradona, but his supporting cast has always been much, much better. Xavi is an iconic player in his own right

Meanwhile, just look at Maradona's WC win to see what he could accomplish on his own... It was like Dirk's championship with the Mavs

Tiki Taka and Poop are the worst cancer to ever happen to football, and the reason the quality of the sport has gone downhill since its creation. Nowadays it's either keep the ball forever or counter attack, that's it. Like some anon said earlier, football was remarkably better 10 years ago, and it's no wonder football has decayed right after the 08/09 season.
>>
>>69498545
Based Mou didn't rate De Bruyne for a reason

He assumed he was not of the quality of the 1st title winning Chelsea side, and he was right

What Mou didn't anticipate was that the PL had changed way too much since then. Being "good on the ball" doesn't really matter anymore. Nowadays you just have to be pacey and literally nothing else matters. You can make up for the lack of technique by just closing down and winning a footrace to the ball

Faster paced games? Sure. More entertaining? Idk. It doesn't feel like soccer
