UFC needs strong champs. Someone casuals could get on with, someone that can defend the belt at least 3 times (which corresponds to...1 dunno, 2 years?). It's a revolving door right now, champion comes, champions go, just in one night.
Afaik the only division with strong champ right now is women's strawweight, and it's not as popular as women's bantamweight division, where every household name is at right now.
