He had potential though. Unfortunately Fergie sacrificed him for Ronaldo after 2006, relegated him to support role. 2006-2009 he was pretty much Man Utd's Dirk Kuyt, together with Tevez they were working their asses off to allow Ronaldo to shine. He recovered a bit after CR left, but was never as good as he could've been.

Drogba was better than him in 2010.

He was never that good no. He was very good, and did ( unlike the subsequent generations of garbage english players) earn his early hype, but he was never even on the level of Gasoigne, or Barnes, to name just 2, neither of whom were anywhere near the world top 3/5.
