the furether sponsoring went, the more detailed and coloured they became because no brand wants to put out a generic ball they can't be recognized for.

The black and white pattern only showed up for the first time in the early 1960s, to make the ball more visible for TV viewers (the first notable ball to have the pattern was called the Adidas Telstar). Before that it was brown leather. These days most people have TVs that aren't shit and can display balls that don't look like that.
