Honest question /sp/

If players were unable to get injured, who would be the GOATs instead of some current ones?

In other words, what players were GOAT potential but were held back by constant injuries?

This. It's literally impossible to argue for/against since it's pure speculation.

Rooney looked like a Messi-tier talent but then it turned out he peaked before turning 23. Same thing might've happened to a lot of "injured GOATs"

Wouldn't of been a GOAT player but he was a superb box to box midfielder who could bust out the odd blooter but after he came back from a long term injury he was a shadow of the player he once was. Plays in the Greek league now posting vidoes of himself singing along to reggae music on snapchat.

Van Basten would not be GOAT level but he's one of the GOATs among strikers nonetheless.

Hockey would be a much more difficult call. If Orr's knees didn't explode and Lemieux didn't get Cancer they'd have been right there with Gretzky.

Neely could have been great too but he was never the same after Ulf took his knees out and had to retire very early. Not GOAT level but very elite.

>>
>>69064037
those 2 shitters outperformed every other single fucking player, scoring 50+ goals even without playing as striker for almost a decade during arguably the most competitive era of football.

Ronaldo had shown intro pages what the other 2 filled fucking books.

Van Basten is clearly top 20. Not every man would agree he was top 4-5.
>>
>>69064000
this is not an answer to my question. you clearly are a mentally handicapped person. i will not be replying to you and risk you have a seizure or something. take care buddy!
>>
>>69064204
Why is this the most competitive era?
>>
>>69064304
Talent pool gets bigger, young players given academy education, there is more money so less talented youngsters have the need to leave football during young ages. More lower level teams have access to adequate training facilities. Those things add up. Maradona was giving coke parties during the mid week. Ronaldo and Messi play 2 games a week and if they slip in terms of fitness or concentration the likes of Müller, Ibra et al would rape their corpses.

One thing Maradona had to suffer was much more murderous defenders as the rules permitted it but that's not enough to call 80s football more competitive in my book.
>>
>>69064037
Come on, if Robben was injury free, he would be far better than Sneijder could ever dream of.
>>

Do you even know what thread we're in here?

Pato was one of those extremely talented players who failed due to
1.Injuries
2.Playing in a mess of a team full of old fucks
3.MilanLab fucking up his muscles
4.Ronaldinho's bad influence on him(partying, drinking etc.)
5.The club spoiling him

If you had actually seen him play consistently you would know just how talented he was

Nesta was much better at 22 than at 36 this is not arguable
He was much faster back then and still hadn't gotten as much injuries back then

Ronaldo also played for a much weaker Inter than Messi's Barca(vice versa '98 Lazio shits on 2011/12 Milan)

Messi and Penaldo are nowhere even near R9

Sounds like that movie with Bruce Willis, called "Surrogates".
Also Marco Reus, Robin van Persie (showed he was pretty good when he was finally not injured for a while), Thomas Rosicky, Schweinsteiger.
And the real Ronaldo would be the maximum GOAT, holy shit man.

I've seen dutch people on the internet argue which player was better many times so you're wrong

The opinion usually sways toward Cruyff of course but there's still some people out there that argue Van Basten was better

>>69065087
why not? CR left his CL winning, top-of-the-world, everything-is-in-order Man Utd for a crashed & burned RM who's up against a dynastic Barca. I'm not saying he's better than Messi but they're pretty much level desu. Messi clearly performed much better throughout his career but he never left his absolute optimum environment. CR did. If I was a manager for any club in the world, except for a few club, I'd get CR rather than Messi. Messi even could not perform for Argentina (where he even plays among other world beaters) like he did for Barca.

I repeat, I dont think CR is better than Messi. But clearly external conditions (teammates, established playing style etc.) helped Messi much more than they did for CR.
