it can only be valentino mazzola. though he came well before my time, he's still and will always be revered as my team's best player. it may be puzzling to fans and even other italians, but it's common to meet little kids who talk about il grande torino as if they were playing just a few years ago. their story will always be relevant, inspirational and, of course, tragic. he was frank in interviews and lived a quiet life despite his fame. he was a man of few words and instead of yelling during difficult matches, he would simply roll up his sleeves to send a message to his teammates. when he was new to professional football, he performed his trial barefoot because he didn't want to ruin his new boots.
