Why are there no other major American football leagues other than the NFL? Arena football and the CFL exist, but their rules are different than that of traditional American football - and their relevance pails in comparison to the NFL. Why is this? We've seen some leagues like the USFL and UFL come and go, but none ever lasted that long.

What's upsetting is that there is plenty of talent out there. So many decent college players fall just short of making it to the NFL, and as a result never play another game of football in their life. I mean, there are 128 NCAA FBS teams and only 32 NFL teams; clearly a lot of athletes never make it to the next level.

American football needs a proper Busch league. Something to get us from March through August or so. The bulk of the NFL season only lasts around five months, which is significantly shorter than the MLB (8 months), NHL (8 months), and NBA (9 months). There's such a huge gap throughout the year where there is no decent American football. What gives? It would be great to see a league that incorporated some smaller markets not yet touched by the NFL. San Antonio, Portland, Omaha, Birmingham, etc.

Do you think we'll ever see such a thing in our lifetime? Or will we be stuck with shitty arena football during the offseason?

we have college football
you know Omaha wouldn't want an NFL team; they already have a college team

tl;dr no. The NFL has essentially been protected as a monopoly by the courts. No one will ever be able to come in and form a rival league while the NFL has protection like that.

The joke is that the NFL actually lost the monopoly case, but the USFL was only awarded $1 in damages.

If you think this, you have no idea. He almost single handedly made USFL worth a shit with how hard he pushed and how much he spent. It was nothing more than what the D-League is to the NBA until owners started dishing big money for major players.

Why was he in such denial when confronted about it? The real answer is that he was simply a rich guy who saw it as a hobby and then got bored of it so he discarded it.

I bet your parents divorced during an important time of your childhood

He also wanted the USFL to move to the fall to compete with the NFL which was batshit fucking retarded.

lolwat. So you're basing your entire knowledge of the situation and how Trump felt about it based on the interview he didn't want to spend hours/days on for a 30 for 30?
>>
>>68881465
That's pure horseshit. The reality is that the other owners weren't willing to invest what Trump did in the league.

How many millions do you make?

No drumpfkin, moving the USFL to fall meant it had to directly compete with the NFL as opposed to the clearer airtime it had in the spring. But then again, that's common, which must be hard for you.

Yes, he did. It made a lot of sense. IT would have made the USFL a ton of money... if it hadn't been for the courts providing protection to the NFL's monopoly.
The USFL was a small time league until they turned it into a product that could compete with the NFL and attempted the power move to move to the fall. Go read some of the internal communications from the networks and the NFL and their lawyers. They were scared shitless of the USFL muscling in on them.

The reality is that American football is a fall product, and as such, to make the real money you need to be in the fall.

direct competition is no problem when you're fighting on even ground if your product is sound. The USFL was. Sadly, there's no way to win when the fucking government protects the other side.
>drumpfkin
it's so easy to spot petulant children when they use silly terms like this. Pretty much confirms you're entirely too young to have experienced anything that actually happened regarding the USFL and you sure as hell haven't done any actual research on it.

It's funny because people just assume the NFL had the market power it does today back in the 80s. It simply didn't, it was a completely different era and economy. Which is precisely why they were scared to death of competition.
