Really good defender, or only known for 'le bending free kicks' ?
He could cover the entire left side by himself
Marcelo is better than Carlos ever was.
>>68855373
everyone who claims he's overrated or a meme player didn't watch him regularly in his prime, easily the best offensive minded full-back in the history of the game, whatever he lacked in defence compared to some others he more than made up for by being miles ahead in terms of skill and magic when going forward. those youtube compilations don't do him justice, he was more than just long shots, the way he was running into space without a ball, his dribbling and ball control, just wow. 1996-2004 he was an absolute monster of a player
Decent but no one would be talking about him if it weren't for those blooters
>>68855373
he's a massive meme, his conversion stats are poor and he's known for one or two massive meme free kicks. they where fucking amazing ones, but still it's not like he hit 5-6 a season yet the media try and sell him as 'best freekick taker ever'
"Carlos was better than Cafu" - The truest of true plebs
>>68855476
Give over. Carlos was basically a turbo charged Marcelo. Neither are good defenders, but Roberto made up for it with his pace and stamina so he could get up and down the wing all day long.
>>68855531
>his conversion stats are poor
that's what happens when you consistently shoot from 40yds away rather than 20yds.
>the media try and sell him as 'best freekick taker ever
no one does that.
>>68855668
they did over here anyways, as soon as he scored one people would be wanking over it regardless of whether it took 5 years between free kick goals
He was proto-Serginho.
>>68855535
he was, it's not even close, same level in defence, when attacking he was faster, had better dribbling and ball control plus his long shots
>>68855512
>>68855531
>>68855700
he's a lot more than long shots and free kicks. Everybody who claims he's not great always says stuff like "he was mediocre and is only remembered because he scored few great goals" but it's actually you who only remember those few great goals and not how well he played in general when in his prime
He was good. Nothing that good in defense but an absolute powerhouse in the attack. Also was one of the fastest players
horrible defender but he was good in the attack
>>68855373
>le perfectly round head man
He was the Messi of left backs. There's nothing more to say.
Pistone is better.
>>68855827
who was maldini?
>>68855477
dumb dogposter
>>68855869
Only good in defense.
This is him in his prime according to CM4 stats.
Probably the GOAT left wingback.
why are you guys talking about him in the past tense? He still plays for Delhi Dynamos in india
>>68855668
>>68855816
>>68855824
>>68855886
Remember when him and Cafu would have long passes to one another? What happened Brazil?`
>>68855924
he works in Real Madrid now.
>>68855373
He was awful at free-kicks, only highlights plebs will say otherwise (the ones he scored were pretty cool tho).
Quite good LB/winger, I can't believe he didn't take any drugs, the guy was running up and down the whole games.
And R. Carlos>>>Marcelo.
R. Carlos at least could defend (until Henry came)
>>68855847
I'm still mad
>>68855921
>born in 1984
kek
Marcelo is far better technically. Dude is on a completely different level than Carlos with the ball in his feet.
how do you think people will remember Marcello?
>>68856145
Yeah but physically Carlos >>>>>>>> Marcelo and that's the most important thing for a left winger.
>>68856164
That world cup picture
>>68856164
He could be remembered as one of the greats if he wins a WC with Brazil.
At club level he is already quite accomplished
>>68856178
>>68856164
he won't be remembered for anything except 7-1
>>68856145
This is true. Roberto Carlos was a freight train but Marcelo is much more skilled.
>>68855510
this
I don't know where this "roberto larcos is bad" meme came from
>>68856222
kek
>>68856301
Kek, was that pro 2? Or pro 3?
>>68856373
it was already like that in ISS Pro for the PS1 I think
>>68856145
>Marcelo is far better technically. Dude is on a completely different level than Carlos with the ball in his feet.
indeed https://youtube.com/watch?v=T-ycgo9rxbs
>BUT MUH MUH ON PAPER THEORETICALS
Roberto Carlos was a goddamn effective super player whom really shouldn't be compard to Marcelo, at least not at this point in Marcelo's career.
>>68856145
no he's not, again you clearly didn't watch him every week when he was in his prime. Marcelo doesn't even attempt some of the things that RC did with the ball, that's why some people think he's better technically, he just keeps the ball close to his feet and on the ground. It's easy to be in total control if you don't take risks.
> Roberto Carlos literally admits that Marcelo is better on the ball than him
> some polish guy on a chinese cartoon image board swears that its not the case
I see.
>>68856617
and Zidane once said that Scholes was the best player he played against, so?
>>68856617
>what is praise the new generations?
the only fucktard capable of talking shit of current players is Maradona
>>68856617
>what is a polite but superficial courtesy
They expect him to say that nonsense. Do you really think he's going to make like a rapper and spend 3 minutes and 45 seconds worshiping himself adn talking about how he's the greatest defender ever?
>>68855373
>le bending freekickd
No one remembers him for that excepts the faggots that watched that one game of him in which he score that meme goal and a couple more against Manchester and that's all.
In fact he rarely score freekicks and only even took those that were too far or unfit for a 'standard' free kick shot, relying on a powerful shot instead, because he had a cannon in his leg.
He wasn't a particularly good defender either, but he made up for that by being fast, a lot of stamina and also being technically good, which made him a pretty good offensive full back.
Apart of that, if you have to single out one moment, he would be most remembered here for the 1-2, then long run along the line to nearly the corner line and cross ball that picked Zidane to score the winner in the CL final with a volley shot outside the area.
