Remember how the media tried to hype this guy up as the next coming of jesus? Wtf happened in the space of 1 season hes gone from the most exciting young player to a non event.
>>
>>68846575
Retards in /nba/ were calling him the #1 player years ago
>>
He got hurt, what do you expect?
>>
>>68846575
LINSANITY
>>
>>68846575
Injuries hampered his play and he has struggled to mesh with his team
Injuries to other star players on other teams made his efforts look better

His PER rating is what got people thinking hes the next GOAT. Don't count him out yet, hes only 23.
>>
>>68846627
I dont see him making much of an impact until he gets out of new orleans. Who knows when that will be too hes got ages left on his contract and hes basically untradeable because of his potential.
>>
Hit the league right as the big man basically died.

KAT is more dynamic and a lot more valuable.
>>
He's still a top 10 talent, but the awful team around him and his own health has hurt his actual accomplishments. On a team that doesn't pay big money to Eric Gordon and Omer Asik, he might be a legitimate factor in the league. But this is worse than Minnesota with KG. Much worse.
>>
He's made of glass and his team is terrible

Kat kinda stole his hype.
>>
>>68846575
Hr had that one good game when he scored 50.

>Anthony Davis puts up 20-12-3 blocks a night for next 7 years
>Occasionally gets into playoffs only to lose
>Will leave and join some other aging superstar(s) to win one

Which star?

The media is out of control and no one holds them accountable for the shit they say. Anthony Davis is good but the media got ahead of themselves and just want to stir the pot and create story lines to sell clicks.

Look at yesterday. Everyone acts like LeBron was throwing shade at Curry when he was just complementing Love on his defense and the stop. He said twice, that it was on the 2 time MVP. The praise for Kevin Love would be near meaningless if LeBron wasn't impressed by the defense on a MVP caliber player. He wasn't throwing shade, he was complimenting both players.

And then for the nod and point at Dan Gilbert, what did the media want him to do? Suck his dick?

The media is fickle Curry was the god's gift to earth and now he's been cast aside again. They did the same thing to Kevin Durant and even Melo. They did it to Rose. They'll do the same to Simmons and Ingram. Hell they did it to Wiggins early on. They start calling these young rookies and draftees GOATS before they play a game and compare them to all-star caliber players or legends before they accomplish anything.

Just be happy Skip Bayless is pretty much gone from our existence.
>>
>>68848139
Curry deserves it though, he choked in the playoffs but he's been sensational the last 3 years.
>>
>>68848131
John Wall
>>
>>68848260
Curry absolutely deserves it. He even acted like he was the GOAT. If he wants the praise like LeBron James, he needs to take the criticism as well.

That said, the media was quick to jump on his bandwagon and quickly began spurning him by game 5 of the finals this year. They media even carried him through his poor production in last years finals.

Curry I don't have much sympathy for. He was arrogant and too cocky acting like he deserved a finals win without having to compete for it. He announced a new pair of shoes called "2 Rings" before the finals even started.

But the media picks apart everything. LeBron wasn't throwing shade at Curry. If he was, how would that validate Love's defense?

That said, I don't think a lot of these players get a say in the story lines created for them by the national sports media. Some don't help their case, but Anthony Davis wasn't saying he was GOAT. Anthony Davis wasn't claiming to be the man the media created.

Whatever it takes to sell clicks...
>>
>23
>still top 3 in his position

Y DUZ HE SUK GUISE?????????//
>>
He's still insanely fucking good and he's only 23 years old, meaning he's still getting better.

His problem is that he's injury prone. I think they found that he had been playing with a torn labrum for a long time tho, which would explain why his shoulder always got hurt. He had surgery so maybe it'll be better.

Oh and not only do the Pelicans have a shitty roster, they have the worst injury luck.

tldr; Anthony Davis is a top 5 talent in the NBA and only going to get better
>>
>>68848139
Happened to Dwight too. Media calls him the next Shaq, he buys into it, the people love it, cool. Except he never was and was never going to be the next Shaq and wasn't nearly talented enough. Remember 5-6 years ago, there was real discussion about where Dwight will rank in the GOAT centers list and it wasn't that far off the top 10.

Now, no one can stand him yet his numbers aren't actually that bad considering his injury history.
>>
They said he was going to be the next tim duncan, also he has an ugly fucking face so he was a meme
>>
>>68848368
>Anthony Davis is a top 5 talent in the NBA
Ehhhh, top 10 maybe, more like top 15 desu. He hasn't proven anything yet.

>and only going to get better
I hope so. I hope he stays healthy. Not even an Anthony Davis fan or a Pelicans fan, but it sucks seeing players with such potential lose it all to an injury.
>>
The problem for Davis is that bigs can't carry teams in the current NBA like they used to in the past.

The way the NBA officiates the post compared to the wing players is totally different. It's a wing player league now that favors shooters and drivers.

No matter how good Davis is, and he's amazing, unless New Orleans surrounds him with a competent team it doesn't really matter
>>
>>68848410

He's absolutely a top 5 talent in this league. Not many players able to dominate both ends like he can. Kawhi and Lebron are the only other two with that ability.

His only problem has been his shoulder injuries that never go away.

Agreed. Closest you'll get to a big dominating today's league is Dwight's Orlando setup - Surround AD with great long range shooters and good fastbreak playmakers.
>>
>>68848438
Anthony Davis is not a top 10 talent. He has to prove his worth first.

There are only 2 active players in the NBA who have put up a single season PER higher than Anthony Davis' 14-15 (last healthy season) 30.81, Lebron James and Stephen Curry. And only 4 players in the history of the NBA, Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Lebron James and Stephen Curry.

So whatever it is you think he's worth is obviously dead wrong.
>>
>>68848537
idk man, a 26.3 PER career average so far and a monstrous 30.8 PER rating last season seems like enough proof hes top 10.

And speaking of top 10 talent, he ranked 10 in PER this year too. Then again, so did Whiteside so take that with what you will.
>>
Guy has one injury plagued season where he was playing with torn muscle in shoulder and had to have surgery, and everyone forgets his historically great season before where he literally carried 4 cardboard cutouts to the playoffs in the west.

smdh /sp/....
>>
>>68848347
lol LeBron did the 2 rings thing in 2013 and went down 3-2 and changed it back to some stupid name, then when Ray Allen hit the shot, and they won, changed it back.
>>
>>68848614
>>68848657
He's literally their only real offensive option. Of course he's going to put up those numbers.

I think he might be top 10 or top 15 but until he actually proves his worth in the post season, it's absolutely meaningless.
>>
>>68848834

>until he proves his worth in the post season

read >>68848414 and then look at the rosters he's had surrounding him and get back to me.

If he were in the East he coulda gotten to a ECF by now, but in the West he's fucked as long as he's a Pelican.
>>
>>68848745
LeBron has received more criticism than anyone. That said, he also creates a lot of storylines himself. Not all, but the "Not 1, not 2, not 3..." speech didn't help. Proclaiming himself as the chosen one began the comparisons between LeBron and Jordan, fair or unfair. They're two completely different players. LeBron is more Magic than Michael. Two different positions, two different playing styles, but he started it and the media ran with it... then they got out of hand with it.

Anthony Davis, Melo, Rose, Durant have been more victims to the media and this will continue.

>If he were in the East he coulda gotten to a ECF by now
No

He's 21 years old and barring injuries he's gonna be a fucking goat. When he's been healthy he's unstoppable. Look at these numbers

>>68848916
He's 23, still young, but not 21
>>
>>68848913

Do you realize how bad the East was after Cleveland these last two seasons? That the 2 seed Toronto would have been a 6 seed at best in the West?

Give me a healthy AD against anyone in the East except Cleveland.
>>
>>68848900
If LeBron had gone to college and maybe got some kind of mentorship and got some tournament experience. I think he would've came into the league much more mature and probably developed that 2012-2016 winning mentality much quicker, same deal with Kobe. It might just be a coincidence, but it looks like all great players went to college and had great careers on the big college stage. It's probably going to be a thing that held people like LeBron, Kobe, and Garnett back from being better winners, even though Kobe did probably get great experience being carried by Shaq, but never got to carry a team on his more than he could have.

Seriously, they were top heavy with 3 maybe 4 legitimate teams (it's really hard to consider the Clippers as legit though). Everything else was garbage.
>>
>>68849024

2016 Pelicans died, quite literally in regards to Dejean-Jones.

2014-15 they were at least somewhat healthy.
>>
>>68849089
I don't care. The West has been so lopsided and top heavy that making the bottom seeds of either conference in the playoffs is pretty much equivalent.

Sure, the East has the Cavs and then it's a big step down to the Raptors and then all else, but the East is definitely more physical but when you get down past the third seed, both conferences are nearly equal. Take the Warriors, Spurs, and OKC out of the equation and the West is a laughing stock. I might even place the raptors ahead of the Clippers because the Clippers have been the NBA's biggest disappointment imo.
>>
Dude has literally had the exact same stats for the past 3 seasons. What is the problem?
>>
>>68848900
>Proclaiming himself as the chosen one began the comparisons between LeBron and Jordan, fair or unfair.

Its one of the things that come with modern scouting, recruitment and endorsement. People are out there when these guys are 6-12 years of age telling them how great they are, how much money they are going to make, where they should go to advance their career. It can give these players god complexes if they get praised enough by everyone looking to make money off them especially at early age.

I personally think its sick, especially given the NBA eligibility rules that just add another middle man (universities) to the mix of terrible people trying to make a buck. Its just the reality of the business, and its going to happen regardless of the "morality" of it.

>>68846575
>Remember how the media tried to hype this guy up as the next coming of jesus? Wtf happened in the space of 1 season hes gone from the most exciting young player to a non event.

Sports media thrives on potential because the unknown is exciting and easy to sell. Known quantities are boring.

It was amazing how everyone turned on Curry the moment they got to see things that were right there in front of their face the entire time (He isn't a great 2 way player and has very limited impact when his shot is falling at regular season frequency). Even IF GS won, you really think Curry would get the FMVP? Same shit as last year.

I never care what these people say because their opinion only depends on which way the wind blows, but again, sports media thrives on pretending they know stuff readers don't and if they hype a player that doesn't deliver they will throw them under the bus in a split second.
