1) Portugal is one of the few teams in this tournament that play attacking football, creating many chances and going forward in numbers. They will probably finish 1st or 3rd in their group which means they'll play Belgium or Croatia, both games would be entertaining with both teams trying to score. On the other hand if Iceland or Austria go through they'll just park the bus and we'll get another boring, low scoring game.
2) Football is entertainment. It's a show and Ronaldo plays his part of arrogant, ridiculous villain perfectly. Not only will Portugal's attacking football make knockout stages more fun, his very presence there will. Doesn't matter if he scores or not, plays good or bad, the guy is the most entertaining football player in the world. His celebrations, facial expressions, free kicks, everything is pure gold. It's like most of you are too stupid or too idealistic to realize football is no different than watching a movie. Why, oh why would you want to watch 4 hour icelanding silent movie about falling leaves when you can watch a cheesy, over-the-top portugese action-comedy with the most entertaining actor in the world and his faithful sidekick Pepe?
Iceland isn't even that much of a meme factory. They're too likeable as an underdog and too boring on the pitch. Portugal on the other hand can generate so much butthurt and so many memes if they play on that the only logical conclusion is this - if you're rooting against Portugal you must hate /sp/.
