it has less to do with their focus being point production and more to do with dmen being developed as a less structured, rigid position and a more intuitive one that relies on athleticism more than high percentage plays and positioning. its just going to be about skating fast to jump up in the play then hustle back for turnovers.
i think the future is 6 dmen who play a much more evenly spread amount of minutes, who are all 100 mph at everything they do 100 percent of the time. the idea of a number 1 d will die, there wont be a guy who plays close to 30 mins nightly anymore due to the nature of the position at a certain point.
i think we'll then see a lot more traditional late 90s traps being run with 3 defense-oriented centers in the top 9 of most teams.
