NATO is politically very limited. Only a retard would call it a diplomatic organization.

I really hope you're trolling. Illiteracy is down more than 70% since the 70s.

It is actually, even if the capital gets more money.

There's a huge difference between not lost and won. We didn't have total security in every region of Mozambique or Angola.

No, the economical model was flawed. Sure, we didn't have any major debt problems and we had a positive balance of trade but, it came at a huge price. Poverty, hunger, illiteracy, little to no investment in development, private sector in the hands of a few. He didn't even get capitalism right.

>EU handout money
We've always lived off "handout" money. Problem with the EU is that eventually we'll have to pay it back.

The aim of the German schools at that time was the creation of future soldiers and housewives. Scientific subjects were very low on the priority list.

And if you look at the amount of significant scientific discoveries during Hitler's rule, academic research wasn't a big priority either.

That didn't work out so well for the people. You can't just get rid of welfare and expect things to transition smoothly, you'd still have unemployment. What would you propose then? Lowering wages to those of China just to promote? Because even China is getting expensive in terms of labor and a lot of multinationals are already moving to neighbouring countries.

And who the fuck wants to be China anyway?

Communism wasnt even relevant here until Salazar had the bright idea of cracking down on democratic opposition after MDP movement and Norton de Matos. This made the communist party, wich was rather small and localized in lisbon, coimbra e alentejo, the only organized opposition thus relevant

>Consider EFTA then.
Very small step with no political implications. We had already been in the UN for 5 years before joining EFTA, you could have mentioned that and it still wouldn't mean Portugal was a country open to diplomacy.

>The rhythm persisted
People in the interior, you know, the guys that did most of the heavy manual labor, were still massively illiterate. Alphabetizing people in cities is easier and cheaper. That took money and initiative and while things did get a little better under Marcelo Caetano in this department, you can't really compare to what has been done since 1974.

Not only it's the counterpart to CEE organized by an England that wasn't allowed in by the french it also is more economic integration via american influence.

Also, not integrating the UN right away but being the founder of such organizations like EFTA and NATO shows how the isolation was a meme since it's the basic of international dialogue.

That's they key word anon. Besides in the case of EFTA, interdependence doesn't necessarily mean integration.

Joining NATO and EFTA was out of necessity, joining the UN was for prestige (which didn't work out so well in the end). Salazar would NEVER compromise his grip on the country with any sort of integration program.

Also, De Gaulle had valid concerns regarding the UK joining the EEC. Among other things, he didn't want anymore american bootlickers to get in.

Generally i do think it is a good thing to have a nt with players that are used to play together.
But if someone plays horribly bad for 6 games in a row it should really be a no brainer to drop that player.
Sadly koller does not seem to think so.

anyone that reads a bit about this time in Portugal knows that Salazar fucked up a lot.

Portugal isolated itself from other countries.

Fucked the colonies.

Fell behind in technology and shit like that

The country is 20 years behind other european countries because of this stubborn fuck.

At least at fifa our nt does not choke.
No honestly this austria team really has some players who could have a bright future. And the older ones are quite talented toi
I really do hope they show us tonight what they are capable of.
A draw is a victory for austria; at least tonight.

At that point in time no country in Europe was debt free. Everyone need money and we didnt.
We were the only true Empire Left.
He fought a war that was being financed by Russia and by the USA. And still manage not to ask money to anyone.
