And if you actually bothered to watch football back then you'd know that they improved almost instantly after hiring Rehhagel (that Beckham free kick came in like his 3rd game in charge and Greece were outplaying England for most of the game), they then had a successful qualifying campaign finishing top of the group ahead of Spain and then won the Euro.
Oh, and they actually beat Portugal twice at that tournament.

Chelsea had a lot of injuries and suspensions, Bayern went ahead in the 83rd minute, then still somehow conceded a late goal on Chelsea's only attack of the game pretty much, missed a penalty in extra-time, then missed more penalties in the shootout. In terms of scope it's Portugal, but in terms of the actual game it's Bayern.

Can someone explain to me why is this considered an all time great choke? Liverpool were involved in a close title race with no room for error and they dropped points against a team that finished 3rd in the league. This happens every few years.
I know it was funny and Gerrard saying it does not slip before slipping was hilarious and brought us some great memes but it doesn't really make it a bigger choke. United losing the title after being up by 8 points with like 6 games to go was much worse.
And Crystanbul, while again being funny, was entirely inconsequential at that point. They weren't winning the title regardless of that result.

luiz, cahill and mikel showed more heart in that match than any i've ever seen. they were completely outclassed but defended as if their lives depended on it. and how in the world you can win the CL with bertrand and kalou as your wingers is beyond me
