In the UK, we have lots of people from like Philippines and shit working as Nurses. We get told they are very helpful. This is true, they are. We get told they're 60% of workers or some shit. They probably are. But they never explain WHY they are.
When people from Philippines come here, they're willing to live 10 to a flat, all who contribute to a 'pot' which pays the rent. The Western people, be they French or British or whatever, don't want to live 10 to a flat... Which in turn means they can't afford a house near work, meaning they don't go to where a nursing job is, meaning they don't work there, but the Filipinos will, meaning they are more likely to work in the place. Which is fine. But it's disingenuous on why they're here.
In they offered regional wages for nurses, so a nurse in London gets paid more than one in Glasgow or whatever, it'll make it more likely they are British.
Furthermore, in UK, the amount of non-British doctors is huge. Why does this happen? Simple. There isn't enough Medical SCHOOLS. They're all full. 100% full, some over capacity, training British doctors. But that's not enough for the NHS due to the massive net immigration (300k extra every year coming in, on top of population growth default) and so we're going to let them in due to being trained in Oman or Syria or whatever.
There is lots of problems and simply going "they contribute to society" isn't fair. Many others would, but they can't. British plumbers got price muscled out by Polish plumbers when they joined the EU, because they were willing to live in a single room flat sharing with 5 others.
But that isn't even the major problem. Did you know in the EU, once you've lived in the UK for 6 months, you can invite your entire family over from X country you've come from? I don't just mean wife and kids, I mean extended family. So while Mr Hassan might be a doctor contributing, his 5 kids and others aren't and all require NHS treatment and schooling.

Do you know how many British companies have outmuscled Polish companies in Poland because of the free trade and have gotten easy profit because they are developed and have decent tech? It takes about 10 000 plumbers to reach figures up in the 100s of millions, whereas a single British company building a Polish road can get profits up to 200 million simply because you get free access to their market. You get shitloads MORE in return for that. That's what the goddamn EU budget is for, to balance it out for THEM. So that you contribute money to lessen YOUR impact on THEIR economy.
I'm not an expert on the UK economy, so I can't actually give you a specific example outside of construction (which was a pretty general change), but in the east Brits can buy just about any company and move in on any territory because you have the capital and the advantage. This is why your business wants to stay in the EU. Because they have all of the East up for grabs and all you fucking pay is having a few plumbers out of work.

I was thinking more of people on the ground with other guns, knives and bombs. Where 9/11 was done on a plane by people holding box cutters where 3 of the hijackers went on unrivaled but the 4th plane was rushed by passengers to stop it from hitting the white house. People can still try terrorism and some may succeed but its a lot less likely when the terrorist has to worry about the people they try and kill having guns and fighting back while in France and England people only have fist and must wait for police to arrive.
