The Blues would have been better if they had the playoff experience. The majority of that team doesn't know what it's like to have to play more than 7 playoff games in a year. Sharks and DeBoner's "Rest is Important" style was easily the underlying factor of that series.

They're not regressing, but they are declining. Their rookies essentially run the team at this point. They're all solid NHL players for the most part, but now they need contracts.
The big question mark is Drouin. Since he doesn't need a contract and doesn't even have a cap hit of 1mil, he'll be fine to play. But is his performance in the playoffs indicative of how good he actually is? When Stamkos is back, you know he's going to cut into Drouin's minutes hard and it'll be back to square one with him.
Stamkos as well is a big contract piece. He's great, but he's in his prime. He doesn't hold the chemistry with his teammates quite like the rookies do. If they sign him, it's going to put strain on the team's flexibility with those rookies. He's still a All-Star, but the potential of him leaving is a potential decline because they won't get a return.
Do they ship Bishop out because of Vas and Gudlevskis in a few years? If so, then their goaltending will regress because neither of them have been a starter and will need time to grow into it. Just like Jones and Talbot did. Bishop plays an incredibly heavy workload, too.
But they just have a near full lineup of RFAs. They'll need some real wizardry to stay afloat for the next 3 years. Otherwise, someone has gotta go.
Luckily for them, they won't have that Ohlund contract at the end of the year.
But man, there's no reason for them to have a start like they did this year. They're lucky they're in the Atlantic division. We can all make jokes about the East, but there's no denying drawing both this year's Wings and the Isles was a best case scenario for them.

I hate to sound like a faggot with hindsight but at the beginning of the season when drouin and stammer were on the same line they looked absolutely lethal together. Drouin isnt always a scorer but he knows how to get in the zone and can set up beautiful plays. The start of the season was definitely disheartening especially when they all died and it became syracuse crunch with bishop and kucherov for the majority of the season. after the allstar break they really seemed to get things together only to fizzle out with injuries and sloppy play at the end of the season. as much as i love bishop, i think it only makes sense to dump him to get the cap space. hes getting older, and vasy and gudlevskis is solid enough to lose bishop and extend some of the key players. The interesting thing to me is if Drouin still wants to leave or not. I cant see Stevie Y letting him go now, but is he able to patch things up with Drouin? Maybe now after his playoff performance he understands why they wanted him to condition in Syracuse so bad. He came back an entirely different player.

Drouin is playing himself into the NHL. Him wanting to be with the Bolts is hard to take seriously because it's a great, if albeit phony-feeling, way to look like you're dedicated. There's still a high chance that he wants out and he's playing his way out of there. That's why his contract leaves the question mark because he could easily play his contract out in Tampa until it's RFA time only to bail. Especially if Tampa has a worse season next year.
Athletes always give off generic responses, so it's always hard to judge just based on comments. I personally don't think anything has changed with him except that his experience has probably given him firsthand experience in just how important personal presentation is. I refuse to believe the majority of Bolts media or fans could believe he's done a 180 turn on his true feelings.

I dont think hes completely changed his feelings, but he wants playing time, and I think its safe to say Tampa is willing to give him what he wants now, especially if old man stam walks. Sure theres teams that would give him substantial ice time, but the majority of them would be lucky to get into the playoffs, where as tampa will at least consistently make the playoffs, it just depends on how far they can actually meme their way toward the cup. If he signs with cup contending teams, hes probably going to find himself not getting anywhere near the play time he thinks he deserves.
