Our youth development system is fucked. High-level, tuition-free youth academies didn't even exist in the US until about 7 years ago. For the most part, you need to be rich in order to get quality training at a young age. That's changing slowly, but an entire generation of talented chicano kids is currently cutting lawns and mopping floors because their parents could afford to pay for a travel team.
