we're usually not in the copa america.
we were invited a few years ago in the run up to Brasil2014 but sent a C/u23 team because we were sending our a/b team to the Gold Cup, our federation's competition which has a tangible reward for victory (aka invitation to the Confederations Cup)
south america was not super happy that we sent a weak squad and promised never to invite us again, until this year's MONEYGRAB idea materialized, so we're invited as hosts.
in a perfect world, the gold cup would stop existing. or it would be where we sent a babby squad. but since it has actual implications, we're forced to take it seriously. would be much better for the development of US soccer to play copa america against better teams on the road, but what can you do.
starts june 3rd
