What are the other questions you can ask to immediately identify if someone actually knows they sport as well as they claim?

Lemieux > Gretzky is one of the easy ones. What else is there?

lemieux very well may have had a higher potential than gretzky, but the lack of consistency (from injuries) is why he's below him. If you dont see the importance of being there game in, game out, getting 2+ points basically every game for the better part of 2 decades, you obviously dont know the sport as well as you claim. A guy only has to be 75% as good as a guy who's there 75% of the time to be equal to him, and gretzky was way closer than that (I think better, but its almost irrelevant because of how often lemieux was injured or had cancer).

With that being said I'd still say Lemieux was 2nd best, but I'll throw out a curve ball and toss hasek's name into the mix. What he was doing in the late 90s was nothing short of remarkable, like he dragged mediocre teams to stanley cups finals and olympic gold medal games basically single handedly. Chances were if you got more than 1 on him you'd win the game, but good fucking luck doing that

Glass bones went through his last season recieving kemo therapy in between periods and still went out on the ice and made opponents look like chumps. If it were not for his forced retirement he would have surpassed Gretzky.

Since this thread is basically about Lemieux now, this is my favorite moment of his. Local media head Mark Madden told Lemieux the day before that if he could score off a faceoff, Mark would donate something like $5 thousand to Lemieux's charity. At 6 seconds in you can see Lemieux smiling at the press box.

Gretzky
Orr
Howe
Lemieux

Bobby Orr is literally the most overrated player ever in hockey, possibly among all sports.

Gordie Howe played in an era of literally whos and would still disappear in the playoffs.

It's pretty much Gretzky and Lemieux at the top and it's not even close after that.

Gretzky and Lemieux were 1a and 1b thqh. I refuse to consider anyone who played before the 80s (even then, most players and goalies for the better part of that decade were still absolute garbage) for the second spot. That leaves players from the 90s to now imo, so probably Lidstrom, Hasek, Roy or Jagr

>>
Anyone who says Bobby Orr isn't the greatest player of all time literally has no idea what they're talking about.

He was both the greatest offensive power of his era and the greatest defensemen of his era. He fundamentally changed the way the game was played. He did all this while being an undersized, scrawny kid from the middle of buttfuck nowhere who grew up so poor he had to wear skates 3 sizes too big.

He's my number two.

Orr
>8 consecutive Norris
>3 consecutive Harts
>2 Art Ross
>2 Conn Smythe
>2 cups

Gretzky
>8 consecutive Harts, 9 total
>7 consecutive Art Ross, 10 total
>3 Art Ross with just his assists
>2 Conn Smythe
>4 cups, dynasty
>captain

Orr also played in a weaker era, with massive expansion (the NHL added 12 teams during Orr's prime, tripling in size in 8 years) and a competing league (the WHA) diluting the talent pool.
