How can one man be so smart and so stupid at the same time?
>>
This season is horrible but it's rather because of bad timing with a lot of teams going into a full rebuild or declining (Rockets, Blazers, Nuggets, Lakers, 76ers, Mavs, Suns) and the young, up and coming teams being still a bit too young (Bucks, T-wolves, Jazz, Magic, Pistons, Pelicans).

Give it a year or two and it'll go back to normal.
>>
Kind of. There are a lot of irrelevant teams out right now who really don't have a star and kind of just there.
>>
Barkley might not know how to get his point across in a clear manner, but he's almost always right.
>>
>its a wade/duncan/kobrick/lebeta makes it the finals episode

>>
Not really the NBA's fault. These retards are raise from birth being told they're the next GOAT and all they have to do is work out to be great. Look at all these fucking athletic freak big men who have absolutely no idea how to play basketball. If DeAndre Jordan knew hot to pass, post-up, make free throws, ANYTHING other than just dunking and blocking shots, he would the best fucking player in the league. They're coddled by their parents/family from a young age and they never actually have to learn the game, they just rely on natural talent and end up getting roasted by the few guys who have natural talent and basketball skill.

He's kinda right

Think about it:
>300+ Division I basketball programs
>highest number of international leagues of any of the 4 major sports
>only 30 NBA teams
>only ~15 dudes on an NBA roster
>NBA draft is only 2 rounds

And yet, every fucking year, maybe the top 3 dudes wind up becoming anything other than role players at best

Why is this? Is just part of the nature of the game?
>>
>>67886364
people want to get paid rather than take the extra 2 years to develop your game in college. Doesn't help that you have all the every single person on ESPN saying they should get paid.
>>
>>67879724
>getting btfo to the point where you have to correct someone elses grammar

wew lad
>>
>>67886387
And that's why MLB's play is so much better than any of the major sports.

Even if you come out of high school and forego college ball, you're still going to go to the Minors and develop, unless you're some naturally gifted baseball freak
>>
>>67886387
They should get paid. But it wouldn't be a big deal if they were getting that kind of development during their first couple years in the NBA (or the D-league). And some do; Steph Curry and Anthony Davis didn't do shit their first 2 seasons in the league.

But there has arguably been a decline in talent. I think that the league is trying to find a middle ground between the way the NFL operates, where players must be at least juniors, and the MLB/NHL, where players can be drafted out of high school, but have to go through a farm system. It's not working.

Either the NBA has to increase the amount of time a player spends in college, or it has to create a legitimate farm system beyond the current D-league

I think what pisses Barkley off is not only the fact there are a bunch of shitty teams, but the fact that the game is just different. The rivalries aren't intense cause Anthony Mason isn't literally smashing niggas in the paint. Big men are practically just there to set screens and put back layups instead of actually playing in the paint. The game has changed to this touchy, quick, let every team hit triple digits type that allows for the occasional dunk or flashy layup for ESPN to play for the nth time.

Also, in a sport where the individual players are very much at the focus, we don't really see these player-player rivalries really intensify anymore.

Lebron couldn't cut it with the East at that time, he really needed some help.
>>
>>67888728
That's not what he's saying at all.

He's always been complaining about the level of competition and that it's really low, and how sloppy fundamental basketball has been this decade. He attributes it to players not staying for longer than a year to learn fundamentals and team play/chemistry.

He likes the talent, but most of the NBA is made up of role players, who have little to no fundamentals.

Warriors play in a style that was never won rings until now, and even then they're fighting years of a tried and true system of big-man, smash-mouth, 4th quarter Iso-play.

Thats not entirly accurate, last year alone theres at least 7 or 8 guys from the first round who are going to have 4+ year careers in the NBA

the problem is theres no academy system in the US to really teach kids all the fundamentals, theres a reason all euro big men can shoot free throws and are better than average passers. In the US the most athletic and explosive athletes get the most attention and are in turn recruited to college teams and dominate an incredibly weak college system and get to the NBA and the majority of them arent anywhere near ready to contribute

Idk what to do about it though, maybe things would get better if these guys were forced to play college ball for 3 years like football.

Breaks my heart as a sports fan 2bh

>I miss when teams actually hated each other, like Lakers-Celtics in the 80s, Bulls-Pistons in the late 80s early 90s, Knicks-Heat in the late 90s.

Im actually glad for this
I hated the NBA making everything into a rivalry storyline like its the goddamn WWE

one team doesnt need to hate another team to drop them by 30, it does nothing for the game in this foul sensitive era

ANTI-CHUCK KEKS

HOW CAN YOU DEFEND THE GAME TODAY WHEN IT'S BEEN PUSSIFIED? THE REASON THE NBA IS THE WORST IT HAS BEEN IS BECAUSE THEY EASED THE RULES SO THAT YOU CAN'T PLAY DEFENSE ANYMORE
>>
>>67879021
yeah. basketball players take almost as long as baseball players to get their shit together
>>
>>67899429
Did you actually see any of the games between those teams in those eras? Knicks-Heat wasn't fabricated man, they legit hated each other. Some of the best games I ever got to see live.

>Tim Hardaway vs Allen Houston
>Zo vs the entire Knicks frontcourt
>NBA banning the throat slice after they fought because Timmy did it after hitting the game clinching 3 down in Maimi
>The bench clearing brawl where JVG became infamous for hanging onto Zo's leg

The NBA is boring as fuck now. And I agree I don't want fabricated storylines either, but go and watch an actual game between the teams I listed during those time periods and tell me it wasn't some of the most entertaining basketball you've ever seen. Hell, I even forgot another classic rivalry, Pacers-Knicks in the mid-late 90s.

>he feel for the west is best meme
The west is top heavy as fuck so plebs think that makes them better because they have inflated records. In reality, the West has to play inferior talent so the best teams get better records, whereas in the East it's far more balanced.

It's just nostalgia, the game in past decades was more bread and butter and relied a lot more on size... tho it's credit actual play running ans passing for favorable match ups was more apparent.

I think the game now is more small ball and the stars tend to be athletic fast breakers and cutters like Westbrook, but you clearly still have have as much skill as past elite players in ballers like Curry.

If you named the top 3 players in each position throughout the years and matched them up with guys like Wall, CP3, Rubio, Lowry, Durrant, Derroze, Cousins, Leonard and Drummand I think everything is arguable - Let alone players like Curry and Lebron.

You could argue there is more depth... but let's consider 5 of the 10 rings between 2000-2010 were won by Kobe, mostly with Shaq and 2 more with Duncan, mostly with Parker /./ and 6 of the 10 rings between 1990 and 2000 were won by Jordan and Pippin... yeah

Unless they mean like the really new players... then maybe but very few players have ever truly stood out in their first 5 years so in that case who cares

Of course players like Jordan will always say they'd beat Curry/Lebron/Kobe/Iverson, and Shaq will always claim if he were 25 he would shit all over everyone who ever played... But if you accept they were better than K.A.J, Magic and Chamberlain you need to apply the same logic to new players

Yes and no. He's right about the teams being too young, but NBA is as a bad as ever in terms of contending teams.

It doesn't help that the NBA just hit a transition era, Warriors memeing the finals last year marked that era; it'll be back to normal in a year or two.
>>
I was never really a devout follower of basketball before but I have been watching the past three conference final games. I'm curious but was there always this many fouls? Like say compared to 15 years ago. I don't remember fouls being so present.

also I know the game changed for lots of threes as well but it seems a little strange how they just keep chucking the ball over and over again missing and missing just to try and hit threes it and the other team gets possession it seems like they are hurt more by going for threes then making safer shots.

but I don't know dick about dick about this game

It's not just you.

Reward over risk + there's always the opportunity for an offensive rebound.

Watch that draft video again. Barkley made a mistake. I forgot what it was, but it was a mistake. And fuck outta here, the answer is the truth
>>
Chuck is absolutely right. the kids come out of college after a year or two and still don't even know how to play basketball. AND THEY NEVER END UP LEARNING.

years later and players like Dwight Howard still doesn't know how to post up on offense, or shoot free throws, or play team ball, or anything.
>>
The biggest problem is not the NBA rather AAU basketball well they do not teach these kids skills. That is why Europeans players will dominate in the coming years because they will outskill the NBA players.
>>
I really love how the coward euro players introduced flopping from soccer then the nigs started flopping too
>>
>>67900838
agreed. European players have already been dominating anyway, like Tim Duncan, Ginobili, Nowitzki, Nash, Hakeem the Dream Olajuwon, Parker, the Gasol brothers, etc.
>>
>>67879111
this, and its only getting worse with social media and the whole "highschool mixtape" era.

chucking threes doesnt work

but at the same time shooting threes is statistically proven to be more effective than it appears to the "naked eye", so to speak

so on the one hand you have many examples of games where a team tries to rely on the three and has an off shooting game and gets crushed because of this decision, its risky to try to rely on the three

but on the other we have teams scoring more and more points because they shoot more threes now then ever before

when you have scorers who are good at driving to the paint and good rebounders, it becomes really effective to play the ball movement game and try and give your three point shooters a half second of time to get their shot off, its been proven that the best three point shooters have the strategically optimal skillset

however that can change as defensive schemes evolve

Yeah, I agree with Chuck. Just look at all the college basketball players leaving school to jump to the NBA after 1 year. That should change. Superstar college players should play 3 years in college, and then decide if they want to go pro.

By your logic the NFL should clearly keep making the game softer and avoid hard hits and rough contact because ratings are higher than they have ever been and its because of the increased penalties to protect players.

This.
Most young players can't even do basic basketball skills such as, boxing out, setting a proper screen (90% of screens now are illegal) shooting free throws or basic passing. This is poor coaching from high school and on. Because most coaches are afraid to teach a 16 year old diva, who is told he's the second coming of Jordan.

The NBA has got to do something about all this 3 point chucking. It's honestly not very fun to watch at all and it causes the games to turn into total blow outs really fucking quickly!

I can't help but feel this years playoffs have had the most blow out games ever.

I think chuck may just be tired of this meme ball.
