iirc the floors actually are set to be "floating" and are mounted over a cushioned or spring-supported actual floor, to reduce that. the areas right outside the tramps are padded anyways for safe landing and to seal off the edges of the trampolines, so choosing not to land on that is just kinda dumb. there was also talk of having leg braces kind of like what you saw in the Portal games, but there wasn't enough money. they had to regulate the kind of footwear they have as a result, though.
