Qualifying means nothing in bike racing. It's almost pointless.
It really is not as important as in some other racing series/car based motorsport. Don' believe me? Well just take a look at VR46 or Giacomo Agostini (only 3 pole position during his entire career) and what they have achieved while being inconsistent and rather lackluster during time trials, practice and qualifying.
Dovi and Pedrosa are also known for this i.e. not good during qualifying but always there in the race with a good start - they are also very good starters.
