>those climbs
Jungels will have to hold on for dear life to not lose any time today
Could someone quickly summarize what's been happening? Who's on top form? Any revelations?
Unfortunately I missed the first half of this year's race. I absolutely love the Giro, always found it largely superior to the TdF or Vuelta
>>67718644
My pleasure
Some data
33C and humid as fuck
No wind by now
Weather forecasts says it will remain sunny
But there is a proverb on the mountains near here.. if it rains on Ascension Day (39 days after Easter) it will be bad weather for the next 40 days.. it has rained and the proverb was right till today, so I wouldn't be surprised if weather will get worse in the afternoon
>>67717771
Damn, beat me to it.
>>67718550
Very cool photos OP and looks like a really nice place to live in
>>67718710
Sprinter stages:
Greipel won 3 but quit the Giro yesterday
Kittel won 2
Ewan disappointed so far
Time trials:
Dumoulin won the opening one with 0.01 of a second against Primoz Roglic revelation (ski jumper turned cyclist)
However Roglic won the 2nd one against all odds
Cancellara disappointed and has abandoded the race
Mountain stages:
Movistar looking okay with Amador and Valverde close in top 5 at a minute from leader
Nibali looking decent but is just holding on and not trying much
Steven Kruiswuik is holland's hope for this giro GC
But Bob Jungels is the revelation so far as the leader in the GC, can hold on with the climbers on normal cols. But i think when the big 'Hors categorie' climbs will come, it will be difficult for him
So Jungels pink and white jersey (since he's only 23), officially Greipel still in red sprinters jersey but he abandoned yesterday so i think Ulissi or Demare will take it, Cunego in blue mountain jersey (bit of a surprise)
>>67718710
Well you came just in time for the mountains!
>not on eurosport until 12.45
fucking hell, i dont even cycle but theres something about watching it that is really enjoable
Since you like the pics I'll post a couple of them from the mountainous part of today stage.. because I was hiking precisely there two weeks ago
>>67718844
Cheers lad, nice to see the clear favourites still fighting for the Maglia Rosa, I hope Jungels doesn't go full Dumoulin. It looks like it will be an exciting week-end

This is the Matajur, the next coming mountain
(There isn't snow there now)
>>67718958
No no that's just a normal village
We don't have organized touristical places in this part of the Alps.. because mountains are not high so no one comes here for them

>>67718958
99% of this region's rural areas look like that.
>>67717720
Damn Italy is comfy as fuck. When you're driving through, it feels like every village or town you stop at is comfy as fuck with some nice old building to see and a couple of literal 10/10 restaurants
>>67719123
And 99% of the region is rural
>>67719198
Excellent. Big cities a shit.
Italy's a shithole ;)
Come on, lads. You've 3 hours 15 minutes to get this stage finished.
30 man breakaway
will be hard for Etixx to keep Jungels safe today
>>67719221
>tfw only slovenian flags and not a single italian one
Feels good
...ouch
ouch >.<
Narrow as fuck.
It's weird how the Giro has become so "mainstream" with on-screen tweets, riders' profiles etc... I remember when they just had the stage profile at the beginning of transmission and that was it
>>67719610
aye lad, i remember when they had to share bikes and deliver mail on't way round
>>67718710
>always found it largely superior to the TdF or Vuelta
That sounds fedora as fuck, but I do agree.

>>67719739
>Most competitive
Tour and Vuelta always have better competition desu.
>>Most enjoyable for neutrals
That would be the Vuelta, imo. Purito style finishes on almost every stage, lots of attacking.
giro, featuring:
an epic sterrato stage 5 years ago
lesser gc contenders
lesser sprinters
sprinters leaving after 5 stages
>>67719739
it's the phrasing.
>I enjoy the Giro most of all.
not fedora
>I've always found the Giro to be superior to the Tour
>The plebs who started watching in 2012 are fine with their French, over-produced, advertising parade and that's all well and good, but I like my cycling a little purer. I'm sure you understand
fedora as fuck.
>>67719762
Alright, you're probably right on the competitiveness, but I still think the Giro is the most enjoyable out of the three. I respect your opinion though
>>67719795
Sorry, I wasn't trying to enforce my beliefs on others, just my humble opinion. Maybe start some sort of debate while we all watch the race

True. It has 15 Rodriguez sprints each year too.

Good lad. Prepare for Bertie to be even better. The tour will be good this year, for once.

Here we go. Astana putting the pressure on.
its the daily nibali showing near ish the front! here we go! /nibble/ when?!
Friendly reminder that I love Italy
>this beautiful road they're on
>tfw later I have to ride through bad neighborhoods to get to nice backroads
CUT MY RIDE INTO PIECES
Was that a 36 ring that Nieve was running? Looked smaller than a 39
Junglel looking a bit tired back there
normally always up front with nibbles and valverde
if team sky's training scheme is so good, and their marginal gains all add up, how come the whole team are shit apart from except for about 6 of them for 3 weeks per year?
why didnt they simply put another fading domestique on froome's training plan and aim skeletor II at the giro?
>Jungels still in the peloton
is 2016 the year of the absolute madman?
>>67720705
>how come the whole team are shit apart from except for about 6 of them for 3 weeks per year?
That's when they go on the full programme. Also, they don't care about the Giro. They thought landa could go solo.

>>67720705
Team Sky are tour de france babbies. Their whole season is aimed towards peaking during the tdf. They've recently gotten more interested in the classics but tdf is still their main objective
>people who take photos with an ipad
>>67720705
>how come the whole team are shit apart from except for about 6 of them for 3 weeks per year
because that's not remotely true
>>67720705
Stannard usually does okay in the classics
Poels won LBL this year, friendo
worry here
>>67720780
Nonsense. They've sent Wiggins, Porte, Uran to try to win the Giro. They signed Konig to help Porte. They signed Landa. They signed Intxausti to suport Landa.
Landa, Henao, Konig, Intxausti would have been as strong a top 4 as is in the race.

Who on the GC's gonna apply some pace just before the descent? Is it worth it when Nibbles can nibble any decent?
>>67720874
paki cum enemas technically are not doping
it's a debated topic though
>>67720015
thanks m8
>>67720889
Zakarin is a tank on the descent. Amazon is the only one who could stick with NIBALI, only because he takes risks.
>>67720896
wew lad
>>67720896
Nibali is a good descender. Really good.
>First grand tour switchback descents of the year
The morphine is back lads!
Is Valverde the most annoying GC rider of the current era?
>>67721009
yes
Them qts
>>67720827
Yes, Sky sends Good Riders to both the Giro and Vuelta. However, they don't train to WIN the Giro (or Vuelta). Their riders try to win the Giro or Vuelta with a sorta half-assed attempt when they know their key objective of the season is to be a superdomestique for Froome in the tour. Because that's what the team REALLY wants to win.
To win the Giro in the current era you have to make it your primary objective -- most Giro winners don't ride the TdF afterwards (at least not with GC ambitions) but reappear in the Vuelta. Sky's best Giro GC contenders will also ride as domestique in the Tour, the Giro is more like a "Let's ride there, you never know how many favourites may drop out and an opportunity to win it may open up", but the training schedule is still aimed at peaking during the Tour in a superdomestique role
Come on Monta
>>67721036
the Giro has the best girls
>>67721009

Yungle in the jungle
>Valverde
>>67721086
Listen here Sean, Valverde does place a lot of attacks and he's incredible in the classics. You have to admire his all around ability. Best all rounder of the past decade
>>67721183
he is an amazing allrounder but in the GT's he is pretty boring, waiting till the end to sprint for bonus seconds. Just look at Vuelta 2012
>>67721183
>Best all rounder of the past decade
No, that would be contador.
Nibali is not going to win this Giro
>>67721206
I am a huge admirer of Contador, but Valverde is the better allrounder. His sprint is way better and he is a better classics rider. Contador is the surperior GT rider though, by far
>>67721231
I'm nervous about Chaves. I'm not happy with nibbles form.
>>67721231
you wash your mouth out with soap you waffle eating traitorous prick.
>>67721206
Has Contador ever won something that wasn't a stage race?
Ok I am paying attention now. This race is finally getting good. Valverde will win imo
>>67721249
All rounder to me would be the most successful GT rider. Sagan is a better all rounder than valverde if we go by your definition, IMO.
>>67721267
he won that doping ban...
Nibbles
IT'S HAPPENING
>>67721283
He just doesn't have the power ;~;
Remember how dominant Nibali was when he won the tour lads?
>>67721310
And the 2013 giro.
>>67721274
Yeah, Sagan certainly has the potential to be an even better allrounder than Valverde
Amador is actually gonna do it, the madman
>movistar """"""""tactic""""""""
They do it again
Visconti is a moron.
>>67721470
>Valverde in charge to work for his teammate
Nibali out sprinted Bala. Top kek.
>>67721298
DOESNT HAVE THE POWER?! NIBBLESDOUBTERS BTFO!
A NEW LEGEND HAS BORN
>>67721543
He could drop him on the climb. After two tries. In 2014he dropped Bala on every mtf. I don't think he's on top form desu.
Good enough to win though.
SKY HATERS GONE SILENT
Can he do it, sp?
>>67721644
If Valverde allow it. Valverde is designated capitain of Movistar.
>>67721644
No...sorry. He got dropped on the climbs today, tomorrow is when the real mountains start. He's a good descender though, it's why he's in pink. But not enough to keep it all the way to Milan.
>>67721635
Well...
>amador giving a thumbs up with a gigantic grin on his face and a lipstick kiss on his cheek
I feel genuinely happy for this guy.
Is amador really on top?
The news guy became crazy
Fuglsang complained to Brian Nygaard that Orica's riders (probably Chaves) stunk of garlic on the stage.
