The lack of competitive atmosphere is the issue. That and the fact that playing keep away is literally a strategy in soccer makes it lame as fuck. You play everyone in the league, sure, but if you're schedule is really easy at the end it's pretty much a boring path to the bring the "best." It's like if we gave the Panthers the championship last year because they won 3 more games than everyone else

rugby league do a 'superbowl' game in britain, guess what it's fucking shit and no one watches it other than a few northerners.

british people think finishing 8th in the league over 40 games and then winning like 3 games and magically winning the league is retarded
>>
>>67726568
it is retarded, that's why i think the NFL should remove Wild Card teams from the playoffs. i think it makes sense if the teams with the best records square off at the end of a season, sp it's a series of games where the best is always playing against equal competition, instead of racking up points against everyone and anyone.
>>
>>67726568
> magically winning 3 games against the best teams
I guess Leicester hired a fucking team of wizards in their off season
>>
>>67726598
That would make it so that you'd have to win your division to get in. The past few years, there have been multiple teams in one division with 9+ wins.

And your proposal, if it's literally just keep everything except the wild cards, would allow for things like the Panthers getting in with a 7-9 record and facing someone who is 13-3. Not equal
>>
>>67726321
I think you're retarded. That's the only explanation of that written diarrhea.
>>
>>67726647
it can be tweaked. i think you should have to win 75% of your games to get into the playoffs, so even if you win your division you might not get in.
>>
>>67726649
> I have no argument, so I'll call him retarded!
Good one. I think suicide is the best option for you
>>
>>67726321
The thing that's remarkable about this achievement is that leagues with this format are nearly impossible to fluke. You need to be the best team over a series of 38 games, you play every other team in the league twice (once at home, once away). It's not like a knock-out tournament where you can hope that you get an easy set of games up until the final, where you get lucky once. That's why the odds were 5000-1, Leicester had barely escaped being bottom of the table last season so the chances of them going on to win this season was next to nothing.

I assume most of this is just going over your head though, American minds simply aren't developed enough to comprehend things that the rest of the world find trivial.

Im from Norway homie im just here for grad school

I don't get this meme, diving happens occasionally and its usually called right out (except in spain but fuck them). Basketball players do the same thing and at the same frequency (again, barring spain)
>>
>>67727583
soccer has the same concept, players pass the ball and attack the goal and then it gets stolen or saved by the keeper and they have to restart.
>>
>>67727594
There is only a proper break in football during half time. Every other time the ball goes out of play, the clock is still running so the players are urged to get the ball back in play so they don't waste time. Breaks in American football are far more frequent and longer, resulting in a much lower proportion of viewing time being actual game action.

I'm honestly not sure why Americans didn't just stick with rugby, it's far more interesting than watching people run into each other and take a break every 20 seconds.
>>
>>67727642
probably because rugby doesn't allow forward passes, and it's one of the most beautiful sights in sports when two players connect on a long pass. at least in my opinion.

yes, i think it was 30 or 40 years after they started playing organized football in colleges. the old version of american football was not pretty to look at.
>>
>>67727564
Post season and regular season included, the Panthers won 17 games and the Broncos won 15. The Broncos were underdogs going in and won. It should be noted that the Panthers won 17 out of 19 games without their best offensive target

Serous question for soccerfags: did Leicester go 1-1 against any of the top 4 teams?
>>
>>67727588
It's a cancer on all sports, you are right. But with no accurate time stoppage in soccer, it gives players incentive to do it, whether they are rewarded with the penalty or not

In basketball if your flop doesn't work, they score 9/10 times
>>
>>67728985

>>
>>67728985

>>
>>67727588
M8 im saying this as someone who watches divegrass regularly.

There is huge difference with NBA flops and soccer flops.

First the reception. In the NBA, a failed flop will be shown and mocked on Sportsnation, Not Top 10, etc. A failed flop in divegrass usually gets commentary like
"there you see Suarez go down. although I dont think the defender really clipped him. Perhaps a little showing from Suarez, but its a penalty nonetheless.

Then the consequence. A flop in NBA usually leads getting 2 points (whether they call a charge or blocking foul). In divegrass it warrants a yellow card (where now the defender cant be as a agressive), a red (now playing the entire match with 10 men) or a goal (in divegrass its huge in a low scoring game)

Soccer is the game I love to hate. Like I enjoy it a lot. But there are so many things wrong with it.
>>
>>67729130
>>67729135
So you can definitively say that they were the best team? You wouldn't want them to play even a simple 4 team playoff between the top 4 teams, especially since 2 of them actually beat them/tied at least one game?
>>
>>67729252
>So you can definitively say that they were the best team?
Yes. Even taking draws out of the matter which you seem to loath in sports, they won the most number of games. How can you call a team who wins 19 games better than a team that wins 23?
>>
>>67729252
Mate, they've played 38 games .. the Foxes lost only 3 of them. That means that in 35 league games, the opposing team failed to score more goals then Leicester did. They did better than everyone else, by quite a bit.

I don't quite know how a game or two with the eventual lucky punch would have made it 'fairer'. In league mode, consistency over a longer period is rewarded.
>>
>two teams play each other
>it's not called a duel
>>
>championship decided by how badly you can shit on bottom feeders
>only 4-6 meaningful games the entire season
Boooooooooooo fix your shit soccer, just do a 4 way playoff to settle the championship
>>
>>67729303
I loathe watching sports that don't decide a winner. Seems like a waste of time to me. What if the team that has 23 wins lost both games to the team that won 19 (hypotheticals are stupid, but still)? Would you still think the 23 game winners are better? It's only 4 games, all of which could have been decided by a "fluke" goal, which you seem to loathe for some reason
>>
>>67729500
>only 4-6 meaningful games the entire season
Every game is meaningful, they are all worth the same amount
>>
>>67729500
holy fugg I just realized this closely resembles college football before the BCS, before the playoff system. Now we get based matchups like Alabama v Ohio State taking on the winner of Clemson v Oregon. Before it was "well Notre Dame beat Ball State by 40, but LSU beat Akron by 45. I guess they're better". Like they'll never have a true champion.
>inb4 they play each other twice
There is a huge benefit of playing defensive just to walk away with a point from the giant clubs which takes away from the spirit of sport.
>>
>>67729319
This notion of a "lucky win" is what makes you brits so shitty at deciding what is and isn't a good sport. All points in every sport can technically be called a "lucky punch." But what does it matter if the team wasn't supposed to win? That should only make things more intense if they do
>>
>>67729529
>What if the team that has 23 wins lost both games to the team that won 19 (hypotheticals are stupid, but still)? Would you still think the 23 game winners are better?
A team with 9 wins all season beat a team with 19 wins all season home and away. Does that make them better?
>>
>>67729529
A team with 23 wins lost both games to a team with 20 wins. That team lost both games to a team with 12 wins. We now crowning the team who finished 10th the best team in the league?
>>
>>67729588
>>67729636
Ok no good point. Leagues still need playoffs though, in my opinion. If the #1 is truly the best they would have no problem winning in a simple 4 team winner take all playoff. And if they don't then you have your rightful champion. I get that there's a champions league coming, but aren't some of those teams are miles above others?

Here we go again, another day another American that thinks changing the most successful, world-wide sport in history is a good idea. underrated post.
Nice job, Australia.

Can somebody defend this?

We cant exactly speak about fair proportional voting senpai, While I don't believe we've ever had the popular vote lose out overall, it could easily happen with our fucked up voting system.

Quite look showed it happened in 1974. Conservative won popular vote, labour got most seats but didn't have a majority

Hahahaaaaa

That I suppose is the good part about the majority seats system, even in the case of popular vote not having the most seats the opposition probably wont have a majority, but it's within the realms of possibility.

But a quick comparison of UKIP vs SNP from last year also shows how bad FPTP is.

For anyone reading this unaware, UKIP got around 13% of the popular vote and got 1 out of 650 parliament seats, the SNP got 5% popular vote and got 50 seats (granted they only have Scotland so would always get a small popular vote, but how can a party that has almost a 3rd of the overall support get 50x the parliamentary representation).

sage for off topic

I'm a Leicester fan, consistently ahead on football betting for 15 years, and no fucking way would I have taken 5000/1 for them to win the league. You could name almost any price, nobody gave them ANY chance of doing this. It might as well have been 50,000/1, I wouldn't have taken that either.
>>
>>67727004

Nobody hates you moron. Stop exaggarating your significance.

You don't win leagues by winning individual games, you win by getting the best record. What is so hard to understand about this? If another team loses and this cements the fact that you're gonna have a better record than them, of course it will determine the championship.

It's even better when a guy does what Maradona did to England in 1986.

>Here we go again, another day another American that thinks changing the most successful, world-wide sport in history is a good idea.

You dumb faggoty sack pof shit, everything was 100% spot on. Your whole argument boils down to MUH MUH SUCCESSFUL.

Guess what faggot: the majority of the world also thinks that free speech is a bad thing and that owning guns to protect yourself and your family from criminals and tyrannical governments is unacceptable.

Besides, it's not like rules have never been changed in football...oh wait.

Tool.

Besides, he didn't say that rules need to be changed, he said that there is a difference between flopping in basketball and diving in football. Which is true.

You can fluke a couple of wins. You can't fluke being consistently the best team over the entire season when you play everyone home and away.
>>
>>67735591
based Australia
>>
Team in first place loses to #2 and ties against #3 but easily beats the rest of the league, he is crowned champion while sitting at home not even playing. The reward for a great finish to the season is playing in an exclusive tournament next season, and in between this time period you are allowed to completely change your team, from player to manager, so the team that qualified can be different than the team that plays

Nice euro 'sport'

Why believe this?
>>
>>67740804
It's weird because all they talk about all the time is statistics, and yet they suddenly "can't understand" anything when they are looking at a league table for football. America is just becoming one big fat bait all together.

You hear that Americans? Get your shit together and stop posting bait all the time or else no one is going to take anything you say seriously.
>>
>>67740952
I think they're just trying to hide the fact that all their sports have to cater for the prevalence of ADHD in America. They need every game to have artificial excitement to enjoy it in the form of very easy "upset" knock outs to happen. Its not really about competition and celebrating athletic achievements; its about keeping a hyper population subdued and TV execs happy.
>>
>>67741137
NFL is the only league where upsets happen frequently. all of our other major leagues play a best of 7 series in the playoffs.
>>
>>67739880
We understand all that, at least I do. What I don't understand is how you find it entertaining and superior to a playoff system. One long ass regular season, oh boy. Only 4-6 games against anyone relatively good, how fun.

it effectively means that every game is important, from the start through to the finish.
>Only 4-6 games against anyone relatively good
No. Pretty often a side will have their title hopes crushed by losing to a relegation battling team.
>>
>>67741385
this desu
>>
>>67741137
> thinks every underdog winning is a "fluke"
> now apparently they are very easy upsets
It's not our fault that a playoff system leads every game to have an underdog story. Or it's a completely equal matchup with winner take all implications. This is why it's ultimately way better than your fucking stupid points system
>>
>>67741137
>cater for the prevalence of ADHD in America

Seriously, euro-and-spic-cucks need to take a long look at their debating skillz. of course, they can't debate against sharia law so don't blame them nowadays.
>>
>>67741559
This. The only bad thing they can say about football is that it has commercials in the down time. Just like every other sporting event. Soccerfag opinions don't ever make sense or matter
