Toews is one of the best defensive forwards in the league and also just led the league in faceoff percentage. He's not going to lead the league in scoring, so I don't know how you compare him to someone like Kane or Crosby that put up huge numbers but are average or worse defensively. Toews also gets lots of credit for being the Captain of a team that won three Cups, but Keith and Kane had something to do with that, and he won two gold medals on loaded Canadian teams. There's no one like Gretzky in today's game that's miles ahead of everyone else.

He's one of the best two ways layers in the game for sure. He's also consistent, unlike Crosby, and doesn't choke, unlike Ovi.
He's a different style of player so he will never put up numbers like Crosby or Ovechkin but he's definitely one of the best in the league.
