Virtually all major American sports require bursts of top speed/movement/energy/etc. Very few NFL/NCAA type would last long in a rugby match. Different kind of training would be required.

Hooker - be able to throw

Fly half - be able to kick goals
Centre - be able to run around a bit
Wing - be fast
Fullback - be able to catch

I've seen it all man. Hayne has that something special that I've only seen in very few players. Players that are sitting in the Hall of Fame right now. Players that kids and men aspire to be. Don't know shit about rugby. I'm American, though, so I have an opinion anyway. I think the linemen and other big fucking players would probably be really slow. They'd be big as fuck comparably, but rugby guys could just 2-3 man them and take them down no problem I'd think, if the team tried to just give giga nigga the ball and drive thru them all.
Smaller positions might do pretty well since they'd probably still have a slight mass advantage and comparable speed.

Dumb post though, OP, I disagree with your premise. Doubt football players would dominate rugby.

But 95 is an AVERAGE speed for a pitch. 95 is insane for a cricket pitch. I'm not the guy you're replying to, though, and I will tell you that I still think a cricket ball is trickier. It's smaller but almost twice as dense, meaning that the force it exerts when it hits you is much higher and concentrated compared to a baseball hitting you at the same speed. You get hit in the eye with a cricket pitch, you are probably dead. You get hit in the eye with a baseball, you probably lose an eye. One guy did die from getting hit in the head by a pitch, but literally one guy a century ago. People die in cricket a lot more often

Well okay, whatever, point is that bowls beyond 100mph are basically unheard of and record setting. There's like 50 dudes who have thrown 100mph+ fastballs on record and most pitchers would AVERAGE 85-90 at least, high end fastball would be an avg of 95

avg for the fastest fastbowlers in cricket is like 85

Cricket, perhaps, but you have to be an athletic freak with god-tier handeye coordination to play the outfield and infield positions aside from 1st base and catcher.

Take the 10 most athletic baseball players in the game and pit them against the 10 most athletic soccer players in the world in a decathlon, and the baseball players would destroy the soccer players.

This is true. It's too bad Aussies, in their ever persistent inferiority complex to Americans, don't accept it.

And we do have some evidence that can prove it.

Bart King, the consensus best bowler of his era, was a baseball player first. After he blew out a top tier English cricket club (or it might've been the Australian national team), one of the players remarked, "They we confusing us with their baseball curves."

When Babe Ruth and Donald Bradman met, they each promised one another to try their respective sport. Ruth flew over to England, and beat the shit out of the local talent over there, breaking a cricket bat. A top Australian cricketer, Alan Fairfax, said, "In a fortnight, I could make him one the world's best batsman." There's no recount of Bradman trying baseball.

In 1874, a professional baseball team did a tour of England, playing some the best English clubs in cricket. They didn't lose a match. Fun fact: They learned cricket on the boat ride over.

Yeah, these are "old" examples, but examples nonetheless. There's no evidence of cricketers making any kind of transition. They did try a home run derby once between a 60 year old Ernie Banks and a prime Graham Gooch. Banks beat him 3-0. Lol.

It's obvious cricket has an easy learning curve and not too athletically demanding, it's why Indians, Pakis, and Bangladeshis, who have like 10 gold medals combined, are the best in the world.

No bubble to burst.

Ronaldo is one of the most celebrated "pure athletes" in soccer today. Watch that pushing the limit special on him, where they measure his vertical and sprinting speed.

His performance is laughably mediocre.

Ronaldo's 25m sprint time (82 feet) was 3.6 seconds.

The fastest baseball players can cover a 90 foot basepath in 3.3-3.5 seconds.

Ronaldo's standing vert was 21".

He's Mike Trout showing off his standing vert.

Also worth mentioning is Trout is one of those players who can cover 90 feet in 3.5 seconds.

And he's 230lb compared to Ronaldo's 180lb.

He would kill Ronaldo in all the decathlon events aside from the 1500.

Learn about your national sport, mate.

>Undoubtedly one of the finest bowlers of all time'. It would surprise many people to hear that this quote by Sir Plum Warner was about an American bowler. His name was John Barton King, and he was seen by many critics as the greatest bowler of in the world, and the greatest of his generation.

"In 7 games against the Australians King captured 41 wickets (5.9 per game) at an average of 15.0

In 7 games against MCC he took 38 at 16 .9 !

Overall in these 14 games against representative sides he took five wickets in an innings as many as 7 times !

In his first class career, mostly against these sides and the English county sides, he took 415 wickets in just 65 games at 15.65 each. He was without doubt the best bowler in the world of his time."

http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/cricket-chat/45254-legend-john-barton-king.html

There's no "narrative." He was legitimately dominant as a bowler during his time.

The world record box jump for awhile was 64". Trout is 6'2". He's jumping at least 58-60" there.

And the World Record was once around that range:

This bests the standing Guiness World Record for “Highest Standing Jump” by over 5″. The current official record is 58.27″ set by Jonas Huusom of Denmark in August 2011.

Can you prove otherwise beside selectively posting pictures of fat relievers and DHs?

Yes, it's true that relief pitchers and DHs don't need to be shredded athletes, since their roles are limited, but an "athletic freak" like Ronaldo would just be another guy among an MLB outfield.

And Billy Hamilton.

>That's because Hamilton can fly. He reaches 21.9 mph, which is just blistering. That 21.9 mph top speed is more than 32 feet per second, or 10.21 seconds for 100 meters.

The fastest ever recorded soccer player clocks in at 21.7mph, and he isn't wearing a helmet, etc.

And let's not forget, he's wearing oversized heavy cleats and a big helmet, which aren't all that aerodynamic.

I think Deion ran the 100 in 10.26.

So what do you consider athleticism? Coming from a country that actually plays more than one sport, I'm surprised you're fetishizing muh stamina like Yuropoors do.

A baseball outfielder would beat a soccer player at a decathlon. I don't see how this is arguable.

The problem is you're evaluating baseball player athleticism on what happens during a game and not what their actual skill sets are.

To be a major league outfielder, you need a basketball player level vertical, a cannon of an arm, and great sprint speed. This gives the baseball player a big advantage in the sprint events, jump events, and throw events.

They are simply more well rounded athletes aside from muh stamina.

>How easily would an American Footballer dominate Rugby?

I played FCS football (2nd division in the USA for the foreigners) and went straight from that to starting on our Rugby team which was a top 10 team in the US and one of the most historic RFCs in america.

I think a team consisting of ex college football players would do well, they would just need 1-2 years to get up to the intricacies of the game.

The American Football offensive formation still correlates pretty directly with Rugby Union scrum:

1 and 3 - Guards
2- Center
4 and 5- Tight Ends or Tackles
6 and 7- Tight Ends or Tall wide Receivers
8- Fullbacks
>>
There hasn't been a true breakout Union star cross over to the NFL yet but a number of Aussie Rules players were All-Pros at the Punter position.

Darrien Bennett is on the all decade team for the 1990s. He played for the Eagles and Dees before playing for the San Diego Chargers.

His signature was going down and making the tackle on his own kick, as in the US they generally don't put a return blocker on the kicker.
