Why doesn't Europe like NASCAR and other American motorsports?
>>
Because Formula One.

Cheap bait?
>>
>le drive in a circle
>>
>>67135630
Aren't the Arabs/Asians pretty much buying it away from them though?
>>
>>67135730
They are paying huge dollars to host races. They don't own it yet. There has been a rumour of a US/Qatar led bid for a few years but nothing has come of it.
>>
>>67135677
There are road races in NASCAR buddy
>>
>>67135597
It is sort of amazing how Americans are accused of having short attention spans and that's why they meme all over soccer, but then they love baseball and turn-left.
>>
>>67135811
Yes. Two a year.

>>

F1, which is a global sport>>67135730
, and rallying takes up the grassroots void that NASCAR fills for American rednecks

It surprises me how Americans accept this boring-ass motor"sport" instead of rallying, which would be so based in the Appalachians or the arid parts of the Rockies
>>
>>67136124
>rallying, which would be so based in the Appalachians or the arid parts of the Rockies

While there is rallying in the US, Off Road racing is the way to go in those areas.
>>
WEC
V8Supercars
Blancpain Endurance
WRC
DTM
WTCC
Moto GP
SBK

But yea, I'm sure I could watch some "exciting" NASCAR as well.

NASCAR like the NHL, Baseball and Basketball is guilty of hosting way too many events to be worth following as a casual fan.

Too many races, and drivers tend to switch to slightly different categories, its a mess.

The crashes are a big draw for me, but they try to slow down the cars and minimise any huge ones from happening so thats a downer.

I used to really dig Indycar but its never recovered to its former glory. Needs more epic events like Indy 500 and Las Vegas 2011.
>>
>>67137933
It's close but not nearwhere rally is, rally got so much aspects like desert, snow roads, mountain roads, that makes him the most alpha motorsport.

European motorsport is about passion and feeling because it comes from places with gorgeous mountains and stunning bays and roads and passes with thousands of years of history.

American motorsport is about straight line speed because it comes from the boring flat emptiness of the great plains.
>>

>NASCAR

>sport

>>
>>67136124
That wouldn't fly with most locals actually. A lot of the actual rural rednecks I know stopped watching nascar in the 80s and 90s when the sport became too corporate. The man in black dying basically killed the redneck fandom with him. Most of them actually hate racing now. So you would never get the permits and road closures required. It wouldn't fly with locals or the authorities. Remember how important property is to us. Even a race fan wouldn't want a rally car tumbling through his crops. Notice the "city races" IRL does are all in the parking lot for a convention center or part of town that's not often used. The attempted Baltimore race a few years ago was an unmitigated disaster, and absolutely infuriated the locals.

I'm always baffled whenever F1 is suggested as some kind of counter point to nascar. F1 is like watching paint dry, I've never seen a sport event so boring. Even soccer has more action.
>2 or 3 passes per race

>>
>>67138323
>Needs more epic events like Indy 500

That is just bollocks.
The Indy 500 should be made bigger not other events should be made more equal with it.

It should be the main reason the series exists. In the same way WEC exists solely as a means of practising for Le Mans and as such every race other than Le Mans and the whole championship means literally nothing.

Europe doesnt have oval tracks. Too expensive to build one with it not being popular enough to warrant it.

There's that one in England, I forget what it's called. Rockingham?

Then of course you have pic related in Italy. LOL
>>
>>67140092
>>67140141
Rockingham, UK (Locals have noise laws though so it can't be used)
Lausitzring, Germany (Where Zanardi got cut in half)

After that it is just smaller ovals like Mallory Park (same noise laws from locals as Rockinham)

We got rid of all our old ovals and mostly stuck to disused airstrip.

Yeah but napping during the middle hour to two of a long NASCAR oval race is so comfy.

Turn it on, watch up to first or second round of pit stops.

Lay down on couch

Wake up naturally when there are about 50 laps to go.
>>
I love Nascar and i was watching it years ago on Eurosport.

Now there is no tv coverage so fugg it

Watching it online sucks since a have a shitty computer and a shitty connection

You can get away with it most of the time but it'll fuck your shit up. Pieces of aero fly off and you're pretty much crippled until you can pit.

Any man that defends soccer, isn't...
>>
>>67142714

No.

Most other series will investigate contact and issue a penalty if it was avoidable, as well they should.

The intentional wrecking in NASCAR, aka the "bump and run", cheapens the race IMO, as anyone can do that, but it takes skill to make a clean pass.

>Why doesn't Europe like NASCAR and other American motorsports?

Coverage.

It doesn't really air in Europe compared to everything else. American Motorsport is mainly a national sport with very few major mentions outside except mainly Indianapolis.
>>
>>67139520
Fuck off. F1 is LITERALLY the Call of Duty of motorsport. Most fans of F1 dont even know of any or watch series outside of F1.

F1 isnt even the best open wheel series atm, even Indycar is miles better right now.

I'll never understand how inaccessible sports are popular. Everyone can play football, basketball, etc hell even rich people sports like tennis and golf, but you can't really do motorsports casually and that cheapens the experience for me

Essentially you're watching a two dimensional expensive dangerous game that nobody else can play

Maybe back in 2002

You sound like the kind of person that watched one race in like, 2005 maybe, and probably only because SPEED channel aired the re-broadcast before the Busch race or something
>>
>>67160918

>>
>>67135597
Google European NASCAR, yes there are ovals in Europe and yes European drivers drive in it
>>
>>67138323
Vegas 2011... Damn bro Hahaha too soon
>>
There is no tradition there of racing cars on ovals.

Indycars are basically a lower tech Formula 1.

NASCAR is definitely it's own skill because guys like Montoya never really became good at it despite the "it's easy to turn left on ovals durr durr derp" meme and good guys from various forms of road course racing never excelled at it. In the 60's guys like Andretti and Foyt did but they had serious factory support.
>>
>>67135677

Le no good Road Course drivers have been good at it even though it would be easy money for them to turn left over and over every Sunday right? It's two different skills tangentially related. It's like comparing soccer and rugby.
>>
>>67135811

Actually there are two, I think 3 in Xfinity.

>>
we like road races. most american racing is oval. indie car is just a toned down F1 so it doesnt fill a need.

nascar road races are ok though, but in england we just watch british touring cars for that stuff.

IIRC Montoya when asked about Nascar after his first season stated.

1-It's harder than it looks

2-I did more overtaking in a single race than i did my entire F1 career

3-It's a lot of fun.

Reminds me of the WRC driver who did the Baja 1000 a few years ago and was quoted as (IIRC) "Why hadn't i done this sooner?"
