They aren't actually going to put a team in London, right?
>>
>>67120559
It's one of those times where I'm thinking, "No, they won't do that because that would be stupid," and then they go and do it. It's like the NHL keeping a team in Phoenix and then putting a new one in Las Vegas (almost confirmed).
>>
>>67120559
LONDON
>>
No they won't

No fan base there to support it

The games would be early in the morning so late USA ratings

And the travel costs to move teams to and from their would not be worth the pow ratings.
>>
>>67120731
Goddell is just crazy enough to try, and I mean it's not like his legacy can be left in a more ruined state at this point.
>>
It might be England's only chance to ever be Football World Champion "again".
>>
they need to create a UK division consisting of teams in London, Manchester, Dublin, and Glasgow. putting one UK team in an American division would be very unfair to them and it would take 40 years for them to sniff the owl.
>>
>>67120835
>adding teams
Yeah no the owners aren't doing that
>>
>>67120731
Actually, the idea of the game being too early for ratings is not true
There is a theory that the NFL's interest in the UK is because it would open another time window for games
>>
Why would they put a team in London? People here don't want to watch NFL, and there's already rugby if people want to watch a highly physical kind of game.
>>
>>67121033
well then tell your people to stop buying jags tickets every time the nfl forces them to go to europe or else one day the nfl is going to change the mascot to a car and make them stay
>>
>>67120753
Sure it can when he exports our fucking league
>>
>>67120623

>>
>>67121069
The yearly London games are attended by people around Europe because London is easier and cheaper to get to than America. A flight from Spain, Poland or Germany to London can cost about $60 and take an hour or two. It's really not just Brits. European fans, American expats, or curious people who want to catch a game will make a weekend of it. For an annual thing, yeah, it's an occasion. Every week of the season? Very doubtful they'll keep any attendance. I don't know how much interest you think there is, but it's not substantial. Even basketball has no interest in the UK, and that's an actual real sport that people can play.
>>
>>67121269

Well we already sell out 3 home games a year, it's not that much of a stretch to get decent attendance for 8 home games.

clearly the only thing stopping it from happening is distance and time scheduling, the NFL should fund a new concord jet program and all the problems will be solved.
>>
>>67121269

sounds like a team with an 8 game home scheduled might actually do well since it easily and inexpensively draws people throughout europoor
>>
The NFL isnt stupid, they know it would be a disaster if they did it in the next 5 years or so.

There just throwing out the idea so the bongs get used too it, then maybe they will have one 20-30 years in the future.
>>
I feel like London would fail unless it had a European division or two to go with it and the interest just isn't there to support 4-8 NFL teams in Europe.
>>
>>67121899

the NFL will probably be dead in 30 years due to all the players suing them for brain damage
>>
>>67120559
Think of all the cool names you could name a London team

>Red Coats
>Cavaliers
>Roundheads
>Royals
Ok, that last one is lame but you get the idea.
>>
I doubt it.

It would sell out but only because autists around Europe would attend.
>>
>>67121387
I never understood the traveling problem. Just have them play their away games in an 8 game stretch then finish off on an 8 game home stretch. Guarantee a bye to any team who plays them in London.

Travel problem solved
>>
Yea they are. Nobody is going to miss the Jags.

How long is the flight from London to California? Isn't it a big ask for players to deal with that much air time and jetlag etc mid season?

We are stuck with yours, and there is nothing I can do about it. Besides, nobody hear really cares about them, nor do we ever hear about them in the news. They're irrelevant.

>>
>>67129041
They don't
It's a massive tourist attraction

I remember thinking a few years ago during their wedding "look at all the gold and estate the royal family own, and the money that goes into their events. Surely it must be a waste of money?"

Then I did the research and no its not. They make their money back several times over
>>
>>67129038
it would be a huge pain in the ass for a west coast team and they would definitely bitch about it. teams within their division would bitch about having to fly out there twice a season.
>>
>>67129038
The NFL could make the scheduling work. All 3 teams from California have played a game in London in recent years, they can certainly make it work for teams needing to travel from London to California once every few years (presumably they wouldn't be in the same division as a California team)

Just fly them out Monday, they can get acclimated to the time difference in the course of a week
>>

>>
>>67129106
i'm a retard they'd only have to fly out once a season but they'd still bitch about having to do it every year.
>>
>>67128213
Any London based team is going to have to have a camp in America. All the players will be American, you can't just tell them they're going to live in the UK for six months. Any UK team would only be in the UK for 12 weeks a year, probably broken up into a month at a time.

For the away team, does the NFL have the balls to refit Concorde? A private Concorde plane taking teams across the Atlantic in two hours would be ideal.
>>
>>67129042
>people aren't going to watch soccer in god bless AMURIGA XDDDD

There's an element of truth to americans being uneducated about anything they don't personally care about

>>
>>67120559
everyone who would watch american football is already watching rugby, and rugby fans wouldn't watch it ever

and i doubt brits would get behind a team that would almost certainly be 99% american players, theres only about 3 brits in the NFL and none of them are good

They are a reminder of when this country was all powerful.

Also, they're sort of like a national mascot. They don't have any real power or influence, but we can roll them out to meet any Johnny Foreigners and it's all very nice. I mean look at America, after the next election 49% of the population is going to be pissed off. We can be pissed off with the Prime Minister, but it's hard to dislike the Queen. It's like having an extra grandmother, you can imagine how nice it would be to sit and have a cup of tea with her.

>>67129098
Lots of people do like the Queen, actually. I do. I'm also a pragmatist and it's so worth it, money wise, that removing her is fucking STUPID. People come to UK to visit the Palace. It's a historic institution which has no effect on the day to day life of the average person in UK. The people who want her gone are benefit scrounging liberals who think that all her money will go to them.

I actually don't know why they don't fund or allow an Australian team. Heaps of our rugby league players want to play NFL. Sam Burgess has a clause in his contract that he's allowed to break his commitments if he's offered the chance to play NFL. The 49ers got Jarryd Hayne last season too.

Several problems
1. Bigger logistical problems
It's faster to get to London from LA than Sydney and travel time was one of the obstacles

2. Market size
London's metro is 3x the size of Sydney or Melbourne and the UK is nearly 3x the size of Australia and New Zealand together, population wise

3. Time zones
Part of the reason the NFL wants a team in London is because that would open up the 9:30am eastern time slot for games. Australia wouldn't open one up

None of those expansions should have ever happened, and yet - they want to start ANOTHER fucking team in Las Vegas.
