He had a great season at Academica ( at the time they were a mid table team in the portuguese league ), after that he went to Porto where he had a fantastic season. Won pretty much everything there was to win. Won against Benfica 5-0.

Depends on how you define "top" I guess. He's won league titles in two countries as well as the Europa League in the space of about 6 years. He's not in that elite tier, but if you were ranking managers he'd probably be somewhere in the 20s.
