This is common move to try to get ahead of someone pursuing you, you sidestep so you block him with your body and stop him from doing a tackle from the side. The problem here is that Vardy tried to do so while his left leg was stuck and his arm held which threw him off balance.
This is why you see a muscle movement from his right leg which made people think that he tried to threw himself.

But back to Rooney. He's kept flopping in the tournament proper, and that's all that matters. The problem is, since 1966 they haven't even reached the final of any major tournament, let alone win anything, and when that happens, again, it won't matter how well they did in the qualifiers. The Golden Generation amounted to nothing.
Even if England wins Euro '16 (which I do think is quite possible) it won't be because of him. I'm not ABE for the sake of being ABE, it's just hilarious when they inevitably lose after the media pushes their expectations sky high. Not to mention how retarded the coaches are. Every single one of them in recent years.

Firstly you're implying he wasn't among the world's best. He was easily the third best player in the world in 2008. Easily. He's also been top 5/6/7 from 2007-2011.
Secondly, Sir Alex actually was a detriment to Rooney as he played him in all sorts of positions including out wide. Rooney knew it wasn't his best position but he did it for the team. He sacrificed himself for the greater good. So no, I'm confident he would have been even more impressive at another club under another manager. Ferguson was all about the team, not the player.
