He wins faceoffs, is great on the powerplay, great on the pk, great in his own end, great at setting guys up, great at scoring big goals if he needs to (the amount of gwg, or super clutch goals at huge moments in his career is pretty impressive). If he's on your team he essentially becomes "the guy" no matter who else is on the team with him, he can be put out in any situation at any time. He can also be double, triple or even quad shifted for 5 minutes if you need to at the end of a game, and still have enough in the tank to play most of the overtime.

But there are better players offensively in the league, I'll admit, but I don't think there's a more complete package. Bergeron is close, but not quite
>>
>>66753703
I'll add to it but this Hawks core has never even had an average center behind Toews all these years. I like Anisimov but all the others were veteran guys who had to pick their moments to contribute. If Toews wasn't as versatile as he is they would not have much success. I say this as a Blues fan.... so someone who should hate Toews and also an expert in mediocre centers
>>
>>66753774
ya I've just watched him loads, but dont get me wrong I hate his team adamantly. I just can't really knock him for anything, he plays the game the right way and is a winner in every sense of the word. Any hate would just be jealousy
>>
>>66753833
My only problem with the Hawks is the same issue i have with a lot of fans: that they try to turn hockey into a morality play. Fans who keep scores of "dirty plays" and unironically call other teams/players dirty are annoying as fuck. There are usually less than 5 players in the NHL at a given time who are actually dangerous to play against.

What the fuck? Bench had 75 career WAR and Molina has 30. Bench had two MVPs. Molina has the next five seasons to make up that gap but he's declining fast.

Worth noting that Molina has 6 more seasons in the league than Buster Posey (you could say 5 if you want to count Posey's 7 games at the end of 09) and Posey is only 1.5 WAR behind Molina even though Molina had a half decade head start. He debuted the same year as Joe Mauer and Mauer has WAR 17 points higher. Russell Martin debuted two years later and he has a career WAR 3 points higher than Molina. Mike Napoli debuted two years after Molina and is less than 4 WAR behind Molina. Brian McCann debuted a year after Molina and is only 2 WAR behind Molina.

So really only Posey and Mauer seem like hall of fame shots. Molina is in a class with guys like Russell Martin, Mike Napoli, and Brian McCann. Very good players but not hall of famers. And you compared him to Bench?

Molina is not elite and he not a hall of famer.

Forgot to add that he also has a RotY too. He's a lock for the Silver Slugger for years and will start finally winning Gold Golves once the writers realize that Molina's defense isn't nearly as good as it used to be.
>>
>>66758889
>>Best offensive catcher in the game by far
You mean of active catchers, right?
>>
>>66759046

Posey also basically missed an entire year when he got his injury. He's also a far better framer than Molina and framing isn't even taken into account in WAR.

Andruw Jones

But I have no fucking clue why it was that Marion guy who got it, he was a literally-who who didn't have a notable season in any way. The only bigger MVP voting travesties in baseball awards history I can think of is the gypping Ted Williams out of at least the MVP in one of his Triple Crown seasons for fucking Joe Gordon, and at least one other he should have won, don't remember all the details.

The football Hall is far kinder to RBs and QBs than WRs or TEs. Tomlinson's 2006 season is arguably the greatest single-season performance by one player, according to the pic related at Pro Football Reference. (AV is like their version of WAR.)

>>66759764
All 3 of the early-00s As "aces" petered out eventually. Mulder fell off after he went to the Cards, Zito was a giant albatross for SF, and Hudson happened to putter along competently for the longest period. Meanwhile, Buerhle has a well-earned reputation as a workhorse and is always solid year in and out. Oh yeah, and the aforementioned no-no and perfecto help his case, too.
Hudson was good in his first few years out of Oakland, no doubt. But he's a not a guy that screams "Hall of Famer!" to me, if you know what I mean,

Posey is the best OFFENSIVE catcher in baseball but hes not even top 3 in the NL as far as defense goes. This is fact.

Hes also not the best framing catcher in his own division, let alone baseball.

Posey hits like no other but as far as true CATCHER (framing/defense/game calling) there are more than 5 who are better. BUT he'll probably be a hall of famer anyway.

>>66759046
WAR isnt the only metric used to determine the value a catcher has to a team you fucking retard. Molina is basically a player-manager at this point, his offence is inferior to many but his leadership and relationship his pitching staff is an intangible.

Molina's offence isnt why hes in the lineup, hes their for his baseball IQ which is leagues above posey, mauer, and martin (who are all offensive-first catchers).

Mauer also isnt going into the hall, his career peak was unreal, and got himself a well deserved MVP but not only has he not caught a fucking game in 3 years but his offensive numbers post 2010 arent good enough for the hall.

>>66759820

No Cy Young, and has never and will never be the best left-hander of his own division.

Rings are a collective achievement.
Cy Young, MVP, and pitcher titles are what classify you as the best of your position something he's never had and will probably never have as long as Kershaw and he both stay in the West. He kinda does have hall of fame numbers tho which is enough. Also not the best post season pitching performance. Like not even close to what Koufax, Gibson, and 10 more have done.

You know I understand why your inferiority complex turns on every time Kershaw is mentioned. It's that no matter how many rings bum gets he will never in his career be better than Kershaw through 32 season starts.

Maybe that's what bothers SF fans most, that they've actually won championships*** that nobody actually cares for. That even after all the Rings and the memes, humble Kershaw will always be seen as the GREATEST LEFT HANDER TO EVER LIVE.

>Bumgarner hitting a HR of Kershaw is like winning a Cy Young and pitching triple crown to Giants fans

It's sadder than the 28 years LA has gone without making it to the WS.

What's more funny is that as grear as bum is he will never EVER be eclipse Kershaw, even with 6 more rings.

That's the true measurement of greatness. When another nigga in your division has 3 more rings than you and a WS MVP but is still universally agreed upon as the second best or even 4th or 5th best, not even top 10 lmao.

Obviously Kershaw is a better pitcher than Bumgarner, Kershaw is by far the best pitcher in baseball, are you happy now faggot? but what does that have to do with Bum getting into the hall? We are talking about individual careers you incredible fucken retard. Rings are a collective achievement.

Felix doesn't have a ring and probably will retire w/o ever pitching in october.

That takes nothing away from his remarkable career.

Felix is the greatest right hander of his generation and will go into the hall without having pitched even a single inning of post season baseball,
That's what true greatness is.

You keep talking about rings as if they actually mattered to the same degree as in the NBA or NFL.

Bumgarner was the 4th starter in 10 and 12 so it's not like he's been a prolific October pitcher, the dude got his shit pushed in more than twice in the WS. (but maybe you don't remebwr because you weren't watching baseball back then)

Bumgarner is a good fucking pitcher, I go watch him every time he comes to LA, I like his passion and he's still so young. I just don't like that people praise his 14' post-season as if it was something that had/never and will never be seen again.
We saw his mate Lincecum ring up 14 fucking K's and 2-hits on a CGSO in 10 and in 15 we saw Cueto throw a CG 2-hitter.

Both superior to any start Bum has ever made. He's good but chill.

Hard to say with pitchers. They can flame out with zero warning. But if he pitches like this until his early 30's and then spends the next 3-4 years as a decent pitcher, he'll get in no problem.

NLCS excuse me. He couldn't make it out if THE 3rd or 4th inning against STL and had a worse start than any Kershaw vs. STL post season game. Got rocked against Cincy in the DS too and they barely made it out of that series without having faced Cueto.

>>66760284
I'm not denying that Bum isn't good lmao I know his career metrics by memory. He's going to be a hall of famer. I respect him a lot, especially because he debuted as a 20 year old and isn't made if glass but u niggas gotta chill with those 3 rings as if that somehow makes him better than everyone. It's still a collective achievement. I give you 14 as all him but not 10 or 12, that was all Lincecum in 10 and in 12 more of a collective.

Fact of the matter is:
>0 Cy Youngs
>0 ERA TITLES
>0 STRIKEOUT TITLES
>0 WINS TITLE
>0 TRIPLE CROWNS
>0 MVP'S

You would rather have fantasy schbarwer handle your pitching staff as your everyday catcher rather than Molina?

Kill yourself immediately you ridiculous fucking simp.

Hitting has always been a premium for catchers just as nobody gives a fuck about good hitting SS. Power positions have historically been 1B and OF.

>>66760427
>what is a triple crown
>>
>>66760436

"Game calling" and "framing" are made up bullshit to illustrate a "grit" and "leadership" narrative for players that don't perform well at the plate. Just about every catcher in baseball is the same with game calling and framing, it really doesn't fucking matter. Obviously, fielding itself matters, but if you would rather have someone like Terry Steinbach catching games for you than Mike Piazza, because of how Steinbach "calls a game", you're retarded and might as well be a disciple of Dusty Baker. You're basically giving a spot in your lineup to a pitcher.

>>66760436

Wins are irrelevant when evaluating pitchers, if you weren't a retard who thinks IT'S PART OF THE TRIPLE CROWN, IT MUST BE GOOD, you would understand this. You were citing Lincecum awhile back. Did you know Jorge De La Rosa won more games than Lincecum during one of Lincecum's Cy Young years? It's a meaningless stat that doesn't provide any context for pitcher performance.
>>
>>66760463
God damn who is your team? The top retard that I've spotted this year Holy shit.
Catcher game calling is a real thing. Some elite pitchers are NOT elite when not with their catcher. Numbers prove this.
Catcher framing is also a real thing. It's literally measured. It elevates an elite pitcher to beyond that. It takes a Wainwright a Kershaw a Hernandez to a higher level. Its measured.

Lol the wins was a subtopic to the 4X Cy Young and lowest ERA in the live-ball era pitcher who is Clayton Kershaw. If not the wins then the 4x strikeout title, 4x ERA tittle, and MVP Clayton Kershaw.

DeLaRosa is also a hall of famer. ERA under 4.5 in 1300 innings @ Coors God damn.

Yes, game calling and framing are real things in the sense that they exist, however they are not paramount to success. They mean nothing compared to actual fielding prowess and how a catcher performers as a hitter. Again, would you rather have Brad Ausmus as your catcher, or Joe Mauer?

If you claim "numbers prove this" and "its measured", then why don't you provide a link with these numbers.

And I didn't suggest Kershaw wasn't a Hall of Famer or that De La Rosa was one, I stated that wins don't provide context. I know you're a Dodgers fan, so thinking and reading comprehension aren't your strong suits, but please try harder next time.
